Domestic cats actually domesticated themselves. Possibly twice. Apparently cats were attracted to human settlements due to large rat/mice populations around 10,000 years ago. Once the cats realized humans would feed them if they hung around and were nice, they changed their behavior. Even the meow sound that is synonymous with cats is done to appeal to humans.
