This week on **The Arete Podcast**, Jake sits down with **VoltCon creator Kevin Clark** and Operations Director **Andy Alam** to go inside the convention, talk about how it started, how it has grown, and why it has become much more than a gathering for Voltron fans.
What began as a celebration of **Voltron** has evolved into a full-blown reunion for fans of **anime, science fiction, classic cartoons, cosplay, collectibles, tabletop gaming, tokusatsu, giant robots, Star Trek, Transformers, Robotech, Power Rangers, Gundam** and more.
Kevin takes us back to the beginning, when attending JemCon inspired him to ask a simple question: **“Why not do this for Voltron?”** That idea became the first VoltCon in 2019, and since then the convention has grown year after year while building a community that Kevin and Andy describe more like a family reunion than a traditional fan convention.
The conversation also dives deep into the power of nostalgia. From **Saturday morning cartoons and Toonami** to Dragon Ball, Gundam Wing, VHS tapes, physical media, toy collecting and convention culture, we look at how the things people once got called “nerds” for loving became a massive part of mainstream pop culture.
Jake also has a confession to make: despite growing up obsessed with **Power Rangers, Beast Wars, Dragon Ball, anime and giant robots**, he has somehow never actually watched Voltron.
