Social media is a precarious medium as it is, but with the success of YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter they are closer to public utilities than websites. Some censorship makes sense since the more popular a platform is, the more likely children will access it. However, since parents have the ability to moderate content and most platforms differentiate content created for kids vs other content, censorship really isn't necessary.
