At one point leading up to the 2024 election, New York City was trying to pass a bill that would have allowed illegal immigrants to vote in municipal elections. The bill was passed into law, but very quickly struck down by the courts. The law was thought by many to be stepping stone to eventually allow illegal aliens the right to vote in state and federal elections.
