Eric said that in the original version of The Little Mermaid, Hans Christian Andersen wrote the prince to fall in love with another man, but this wasn't correct. The fact is that it's thought that Andersen wrote the story after professing his love for a man and not having the affection returned. This whole topic only came up because of Disney's new live action Little Mermaid and #blackariel causing controversy.
