Jake finally answers the age-old question, especially since the release of Dragon Ball Super: Is Dragon Ball GT canon? Short answer is yes, but depending on your point of view. Basically since the concept of the multiverse came around, it retroactively got rid of the need of a firm canon, because every time diversion simply creates an alternate universe. This was touched on in the original Trunks storyline when he acknowledged that changing the past he was in would have no affect on his future.
