Today we’re looking back at the 1999 live-action Inspector Gadget movie starring Matthew Broderick, Rupert Everett, and Joely Fisher. Based on the classic Inspector Gadget cartoon, this movie had a beloved character, a ridiculous arsenal of gadgets, a giant robot, and plenty of nostalgia baked right into it. So why did we NOT love this movie when we were kids?
Was Inspector Gadget actually a bad movie, or were we just completely incapable of appreciating what it was trying to do? Does the movie hold up today? How does it compare to the original Inspector Gadget cartoon? And was Matthew Broderick really the right choice to play everyone's favorite bumbling cyborg detective?
We’re taking a trip back to the late '90s to revisit Inspector Gadget, childhood nostalgia, bad kids movies, Disney live-action adaptations, and the movies we probably should have appreciated more… but absolutely did not.
If you grew up with Inspector Gadget, cartoons from the '80s and '90s, or questionable childhood movies, this one is for you!
