After all the skepticism, the comparisons to the original, and the general question of “Why are they remaking this?”, we finally sat down and took a closer look at Disney’s live-action Moana. And… okay. Maybe it wasn’t THAT bad.
Does it live up to the original? Is the live-action remake actually worth watching? What works, what absolutely doesn’t, and why did we somehow come away feeling a little more positive about it than we expected?
Today we're talking about Moana (2026), Disney’s live-action remake, the original Moana, Dwayne Johnson as Maui, Catherine Laga'aia as Moana, the music, the story, the changes from the animated movie, and whether this remake deserves all the hate it’s getting.
Maybe it’s not a masterpiece. Maybe it never needed to exist. But… maybe it’s also not the disaster we expected.
