How can a movie start with such raw, compelling intensity and then completely collapse under its own weight? Those initial scenes—the pressure, the transformation—they set an impossibly high bar. When the narrative shifts to the Joker's journalism escapades, does the pacing immediately become horrendous? Did Kubrick lose the plot after the drill sergeant arc concluded? What was the intent behind leaving that phenomenal foundation for such a lackluster, drawn-out second half? Someone tell me what I'm missing about that supposed masterpiece ending!
