[00:02:48] I want to welcome Jared and Elvis, a.k.a. 90s Kids Library and Nostalgia Goosebumps over on Instagram.
[00:02:54] How are you guys doing tonight?
[00:02:56] Doing all right.
[00:02:58] Awesome.
[00:02:59] Yeah, thanks for inviting me.
[00:03:00] Yep.
[00:03:01] Yep, absolutely.
[00:03:02] And we're very glad to have you both because as I've said, I mean, we three are huge Goosebumps fans,
[00:03:07] but we got to throw you both into the mix too because you guys are also just as big of Goosebumps fans as we are.
[00:03:12] So we're very happy to have you.
[00:03:14] And the topic of this week is something that I'm sure the five of us and a lot of other people in the Goosebumps community are very familiar with,
[00:03:22] and that's collecting.
[00:03:23] We love collecting Goosebumps.
[00:03:26] I mean, we could talk about things like the books and TV shows all day long,
[00:03:30] but our bread and butter is our Goosebumps collections.
[00:03:33] As you can see, some of us have them right in our backdrop.
[00:03:36] So, you know, we collect Goosebumps.
[00:03:39] I can't fit in there to do this.
[00:03:41] If he could, you would see all that.
[00:03:44] I wouldn't ask you that.
[00:03:44] You would put all bars to shame.
[00:03:47] But that is the topic of the week.
[00:03:49] Is it going to have to open the door and sit in front of it with your laptop so it can be your backdrop?
[00:03:55] Yeah.
[00:03:55] I guess it's on the floor.
[00:03:57] Yeah.
[00:03:58] But, you know, we have to settle for your living room or your kitchen.
[00:04:03] It's something that you want me to bring out and I'll go get it.
[00:04:06] But collecting is the topic of the week.
[00:04:08] And as I've said, we guys, we collect everything Goosebumps, whatever it be.
[00:04:13] If it has Goosebumps on it, we're going to probably waste our hard earned money on it just to have it in our collections.
[00:04:20] But I felt it would be...
[00:04:22] We have no money.
[00:04:24] We have no money because of Goosebumps.
[00:04:26] But we are rich in Goosebumps paraphernalia.
[00:04:29] So this week, I felt it would be nice to take it easy a little bit and kind of talk about our experiences with collecting and maybe even give some of you aspiring Goosebumps collectors out there a little bit of advice in terms of finding stuff for your own collections.
[00:04:45] And I guess the best way to start off is with our two guests.
[00:04:49] So can you tell us how did you guys start collecting Goosebumps paraphernalia or anything other of the sort?
[00:04:57] Let's start with you, Jared.
[00:04:59] Sure.
[00:05:00] Yeah.
[00:05:00] So it was...
[00:05:02] Well, so when I was a kid, I obviously collected Goosebumps.
[00:05:06] And then I ended up losing them all just the way that kids end up losing all their childhood toys.
[00:05:11] So I didn't have them anymore.
[00:05:14] And it wasn't until not too long ago, 2019, I believe, I came across two Goosebumps books in an antique shop.
[00:05:22] It was How to Kill a Monster and Monster Blood 2.
[00:05:26] And I even remember like How to Kill a Monster, the half of the cover was missing, but I still had to have it.
[00:05:33] It just brought me so much joy to see it.
[00:05:35] And you know, Goosebumps, I remember even when I was a kid, like there's such a strong retrieval cue, as we would call it, where once you touch those bumps, you know what I mean?
[00:05:48] Like just that tactile sensation of the bumps on the cover just really brings back a lot of memories and a lot of joy.
[00:05:54] So I just loved, I loved feeling the book and I just knew I had to start collecting them again.
[00:06:00] So yeah, I started looking for them online.
[00:06:03] My wife actually, for our anniversary, gifted me with a full set, but then I still ended up like finding more and more and building a second set, a third set.
[00:06:13] And now I have a whole wall behind me filled with just a bunch of doubles.
[00:06:17] Mm hmm. And many other book series as well.
[00:06:22] You you not only collect Goosebumps, but just about every other sort of point horror kids horror book that there is.
[00:06:28] Yeah, yeah, I got I got all the Fear Street books.
[00:06:31] I got all of the Goosebumps knockoffs for back for lack of a better word.
[00:06:38] Yeah, like spine or no, I don't have all the spine tinglers yet, but I have bone chillers, dead time stories, all those.
[00:06:48] Very nice.
[00:06:49] And then Elvis, what about you? What got you started on your Goosebumps collecting journey?
[00:06:56] So I was I'm actually an ESOL teacher.
[00:06:59] So as a kid, I was an ESOL student as well.
[00:07:03] I remember that my ESOL teacher would give me the Goosebumps books like, hey, you can practice reading with this.
[00:07:09] And it helped me a lot.
[00:07:12] That was when I was living here in the States.
[00:07:14] But then, you know, I had a few books that my parents were able to purchase.
[00:07:22] But then when I was like around 10, we had to move away.
[00:07:25] We went to El Salvador where nobody speaks English, at least at that time.
[00:07:32] And obviously, a lot of people did not know what Goosebumps was.
[00:07:35] And then when we arrived over there, I lost a lot of stuff.
[00:07:39] My mom lost a lot of stuff in the customs area.
[00:07:42] So I think I only had one Goosebumps book.
[00:07:46] And, you know, time passed by.
[00:07:49] And I remember that three years ago, I was watching another podcast.
[00:07:55] And one of the one of the guys there said, hey, I just like purchased a whole set of Goosebumps.
[00:08:01] And I was like, Goosebumps?
[00:08:02] And there's something triggered like in my brain.
[00:08:05] Like, I remember that.
[00:08:07] So I started like looking for one book and then another one.
[00:08:10] First, it was only going to be Say Cheese and Die and Welcome to Dead House.
[00:08:15] But then, I don't know, I ended up with the whole collection.
[00:08:20] Yeah.
[00:08:21] That's how they get you.
[00:08:22] Yeah.
[00:08:23] I mean, you start with the books.
[00:08:25] You don't care if it's first printing or not, if it has any inserts.
[00:08:29] Because you didn't even know about that.
[00:08:31] But then, you're like, oh, trading cards.
[00:08:33] Oh, hologram stickers.
[00:08:35] First printing.
[00:08:36] So then you start like trying to, you know, go on the hunt and look for those kind of books.
[00:08:42] So, and then after that, you're like, okay, I got all the books.
[00:08:45] And then you start looking at merchandise.
[00:08:47] And then rare items.
[00:08:50] So yeah, I guess I started collecting three years ago, I would say.
[00:08:58] Yeah.
[00:08:59] It's been fun.
[00:09:00] Yeah.
[00:09:01] It's tons of fun to collect.
[00:09:03] Honestly, to collect anything.
[00:09:06] It's a great hobby to have.
[00:09:08] I mean, there's people out there who you're collecting is their livelihood.
[00:09:11] Like it really, really is.
[00:09:14] But it's just a great hobby to have to just like search out for one particular thing.
[00:09:19] And goosebumps.
[00:09:21] I certainly feel like I speak for, you know, all of us here.
[00:09:25] It's just that book series where like when you find it out in the wild, you're just like, oh, that's so cool.
[00:09:30] Like you take a look at it, even if you like you don't pick it up.
[00:09:33] It's still like something there's such like an adrenaline rush in finding goosebumps in the wild.
[00:09:39] You guys do you guys feel like collecting these goosebumps?
[00:09:42] Do you feel like it's therapeutic?
[00:09:44] Yes.
[00:09:46] Whenever I find like a hand, even a handful of like really good books, it just is like it's just there's an aura to it.
[00:09:57] Like you just feel like, oh, man, my day is so much better now.
[00:10:01] And actually, I have a story about that.
[00:10:02] I'll tell in a few minutes.
[00:10:05] Like literally, it's life. Like nothing brings more joy to me like than finding goosebumps in the wild.
[00:10:12] It is literally better than love. It's better than life.
[00:10:15] Yep.
[00:10:16] It's better than life.
[00:10:19] It's better than anything.
[00:10:21] Yeah.
[00:10:22] I feel like the hunt itself, even like, of course, it's always the best when you actually end up finding something.
[00:10:31] But I feel like the hunt of looking for the books just brings a lot of joy in itself.
[00:10:37] It reminds me of just so insight.
[00:10:40] So I'm a psychology professor, but the there's this concept or this phenomenon in psychology called flow, where if you get so engaged in a very specific activity and you just devote 100% of your attention to it, you.
[00:10:59] You just put all of your energy and everything else just fades away, like all of your anxieties, everything else that's bothering you in that moment just just falls by the wayside.
[00:11:12] And so you're really just focused in on this one task. And I mean, a lot of artists have that when they're working on some new piece of art or if you play music and you might stay up all night writing a song or whatever.
[00:11:24] But I feel like collecting is very much the same way.
[00:11:27] It's just that type of hobby where you can it can be very therapeutic.
[00:11:32] And I found for me and probably for all of you, to some extent, when you're feeling maybe a little more anxious, you might start collecting a little more.
[00:11:42] I think I think some you guys are talking about it in a previous podcast, too, with 90s throwback kid.
[00:11:51] But he he was even saying during the pandemic, there was so much depression and anxiety.
[00:11:57] And I noticed there was just this boom in nostalgia collecting around that time.
[00:12:03] And we were probably all part of that as well.
[00:12:05] Like definitely.
[00:12:06] I remember I got on a huge like kick at the start of the pandemic when we were trapped in our houses like that in quarantine.
[00:12:16] And I just started like going on eBay, like I would just go on eBay and find stuff.
[00:12:21] And that's how I got a lot of, you know, books I was missing and DVDs I was looking for.
[00:12:27] Like it was the time where I started filling the gaps in my collection because it was just like it was just something that was so fun.
[00:12:34] You find something, you order it online and then it comes to you a few days later and you're just like, now I have this to add my collection.
[00:12:41] It's just I don't know, I feel like non collectors won't know, like just the pure ecstasy there is.
[00:12:47] And just like getting something you you are missing in a set or like completing a full set of books.
[00:12:53] Like I remember when I completed my initial set of the original 62 and it was like it was almost like completing an objective in life.
[00:13:03] Like in that sort of thing.
[00:13:05] It's like you're filling a hole almost, you know?
[00:13:07] Exactly.
[00:13:07] You're very right.
[00:13:09] And even I mean, we've we mentioned it earlier, but like even though like we've completed like a full set, then we start making a second set.
[00:13:20] Like we start like finding the whole set again of the original series.
[00:13:23] And now I have a full shelf just of doubles.
[00:13:26] Like I probably have the original series like four times over at this point because it's just fun.
[00:13:33] Like it really, really is.
[00:13:36] And you're very right.
[00:13:37] Like there's just something about like that sort of feeling that brings a lot of comfort, especially as we get into adulthood.
[00:13:47] Like it's just something that reminds you of childhood in a lot of ways.
[00:13:52] Just finding those books again just reminds you like for an example.
[00:13:59] Exactly.
[00:14:00] Scholastic book fairs.
[00:14:02] You're very right.
[00:14:03] And actually, my example is when I first started collecting.
[00:14:07] So before I started collecting the books, because I started reading Goosebumps when I was in like second grade.
[00:14:13] So I was like nine years old, I think probably eight.
[00:14:18] I was around that age.
[00:14:20] But that's when I started getting into it.
[00:14:23] And I was going to the library and checking them out.
[00:14:26] But I was like, I think my parents got sick of going to the library all the time.
[00:14:30] So I'm like, why don't we just buy you them?
[00:14:32] And they introduced me to this wonderful store, which I've probably given so much revenue by myself.
[00:14:39] It's called Half Price Books.
[00:14:42] Many people in the States have heard of them.
[00:14:44] But that is probably my personal number one place in the States to look for used Goosebumps books is that place.
[00:14:52] If you're looking to find them in person, like obviously.
[00:14:54] Just where you live.
[00:14:55] I'm telling you just where you live, because mine around me have nothing.
[00:15:00] I wasn't joking when I said there's probably a person when they see me, when I come in, they're like, wah, wah.
[00:15:06] Because there's nothing there.
[00:15:07] And when there is, it's usually like the new stuff, which I don't want.
[00:15:12] Like, I haven't written 62 set.
[00:15:14] I have, you know, series 2000.
[00:15:15] I'm still missing some give yourselves.
[00:15:17] So I'm really looking for those.
[00:15:18] And I remember seeing them all the time, like four or five years ago.
[00:15:24] And now, good look around like Goodwill is not Goodwill anymore.
[00:15:30] They're very conglomerate.
[00:15:32] Almost.
[00:15:32] It seems it's very odd for Goodwill.
[00:15:35] So I never find anything at Goodwill anymore.
[00:15:38] Half Price Books kind of the same way.
[00:15:40] Like I literally have come in before and then they're like, oh, hey, yeah, no, we don't have any more Goosebumps.
[00:15:45] The lady just came in maybe 10 minutes ago and bought everything we had basically pulled an Isaiah and bought everything they had.
[00:15:52] OK, so I want to get back to my initial point, but I have to tell the story real quick.
[00:15:58] OK, so just a few days ago from the day that we're recording this just a few days ago, I went into my Half Price bookstore.
[00:16:05] There's two near me.
[00:16:06] There's one that's like 10 minutes away and then there's one that's about 20 minutes away.
[00:16:10] Sometimes one is over the other.
[00:16:12] But anyway, I went to the one that was further away a few days ago.
[00:16:16] Wasn't expecting to find much at the very least.
[00:16:19] I found.
[00:16:22] 20 series 2000 books, almost five short of a full set in one sitting plus two black spines and a few original series, including werewolf skin.
[00:16:33] 30 books total.
[00:16:35] Oh, my gosh.
[00:16:37] Do we know we were talking about ecstasy?
[00:16:39] I was walking on sunshine like just like the song walking on sunshine with that trip.
[00:16:45] But the funny thing is, I went back yesterday just to see on the off chance if maybe they had some more and they hadn't put them out yet.
[00:16:53] They just like put some of them out.
[00:16:54] They didn't.
[00:16:56] And I went to the one of the workers and was like, excuse me, like, is there any like goosebumps maybe in the back or are they all on the shelf?
[00:17:02] And they're like, oh, yeah, they're all on the shelf.
[00:17:05] And I'm like, oh, darn.
[00:17:06] They're like, yeah, somebody came in a few days ago and like cleared out the whole shelf.
[00:17:10] I was like, I wonder who it could be.
[00:17:14] That makes me.
[00:17:15] OK, so have you ever seen the movie?
[00:17:18] Liar, liar.
[00:17:19] Yes.
[00:17:20] Jim Carrey.
[00:17:20] Yes.
[00:17:21] So when he leaves the elevator after farting in there and just turns around, that's you.
[00:17:25] It was me.
[00:17:27] It was me.
[00:17:28] I took the books.
[00:17:32] But no, I want to go back to my initial point.
[00:17:34] So when I started collecting, I went to Half Price Books and they used to have shelves.
[00:17:41] I'm talking two shelves at most of Goosebumps books.
[00:17:46] It was fantastic.
[00:17:48] And that is since gone away because back in before them, I would say when the movie came out, things changed because at that point, Goosebumps was now nostalgic.
[00:18:04] Goosebumps was nostalgic.
[00:18:05] Right?
[00:18:08] But it was.
[00:18:09] I mean, everybody like that movie came out.
[00:18:12] It was a huge deal.
[00:18:13] And I feel like a lot of, you know, adults that grew up with the books were like, oh, yeah, those existed.
[00:18:18] Just like you had said, like, oh, yeah, I've heard of those.
[00:18:21] Like, I need to get some of those.
[00:18:24] And then all of a sudden, you know, places that would have tons of Goosebumps suddenly had very little.
[00:18:29] That was the dark age of Goosebumps collecting, as I call it.
[00:18:33] But I actually remember one of the first books I ever got on the first trip because I got some original series and I got Monster Edition 2.
[00:18:43] Like that was a looking back.
[00:18:45] I'm like, wow, I was lucky to find that on my first try.
[00:18:51] But yeah, since then, I've gone just about every week to scope out those stores and see if they get anything.
[00:18:59] And I'd say maybe one out of seven trips.
[00:19:01] So like you'll you'll find something really good.
[00:19:05] Yeah, see, there's no way I can find anything near me.
[00:19:08] Like the closest half price books is like thirty five, forty minutes away.
[00:19:12] There's like little bookstores in my town because we're a small town.
[00:19:16] But I mean, like it's literally like grandma's reading room.
[00:19:20] Like it is not a place to go find Goosebumps.
[00:19:23] So it's like online.
[00:19:25] Here we come.
[00:19:26] But then you go online and everything is so expensive.
[00:19:29] Yeah, I don't.
[00:19:31] I don't just because I think it's like, oh, it's Goosebumps.
[00:19:34] It's old must be worth a bajillion dollars.
[00:19:36] So that's what I'm going to market as like, well, good luck selling it.
[00:19:40] Because, yeah, I'm not biting.
[00:19:42] Yeah.
[00:19:43] But I mean, like I know where Bjorn's at.
[00:19:45] I mean, like he has what they call op shops and some of the ones he hits.
[00:19:49] Like, I think there's even a lady for him that holds stuff like he has.
[00:19:54] She has like his number and stuff because he goes in there so much as if there's any goosebumps
[00:19:59] that comes in, he's the first call.
[00:20:01] Yeah, I have to know because it's just too much competition.
[00:20:04] And it's yeah, there's a lot of people that collect it even just near me now.
[00:20:09] Like there's a guy I watch called the Aussie Flipper Aussie Flipper, mate.
[00:20:13] And he goes around and he just goes to markets and stuff.
[00:20:16] And like one of his friends went with him to a garage sale and he even said, oh, you got any Goosebumps books?
[00:20:24] I'm like, God damn it.
[00:20:25] Like he just randomly asked for Goosebumps of all things.
[00:20:29] So I was like, okay, this competition everywhere.
[00:20:31] And that's why you leave your name and your number.
[00:20:34] They'll call you and give you first dibs.
[00:20:36] Not everywhere will do it.
[00:20:37] Sellers too, you know.
[00:20:38] I'm a nice little lady that runs.
[00:20:40] Yeah.
[00:20:41] Yeah, it sounds like and it sounds like they're resellers, right?
[00:20:44] The flip flipper or whatever.
[00:20:45] He's just flipping the button.
[00:20:46] So he's not like enjoying them.
[00:20:48] He's just buying to sell them.
[00:20:50] Yeah, he's the one that buys them cheap and then sells them for a bajillion dollars.
[00:20:54] That's why it's yeah, I have to leave my name in number places now because I don't find things like I used to.
[00:21:03] I used to find things all the time.
[00:21:04] That's why I stopped doing thrifting videos because it just was pointless.
[00:21:08] Um, the best place here is the book fest because I will fill a trolley.
[00:21:12] Well, and I got to give special shout out to, uh, back in the old days when, uh, funny enough, I used to be yet just a humble fan of you, Bjorn before we're, uh, but I mean, now we're friends and partners, but before it was, uh, I was just, you know, a watcher of your videos.
[00:21:32] And, uh, I'm glad you brought up your, your, your thrifting adventures because every once in awhile, you would do a video where you go into a store and look, see if you can find goosebumps.
[00:21:40] And some days there'd be like great finds.
[00:21:43] And some days it would be like, sometimes it'd be very little or none at all.
[00:21:47] And that's just kind of the ride.
[00:21:48] It's like, it's almost like gambling.
[00:21:50] It's like you walk into a store and you roll the dice and like, you're going to, yeah, but it kind of, but it's gambling when you constantly lose.
[00:22:00] I don't think very, very rarely, very, like I constantly go, I'll go a few times a week.
[00:22:06] At least, uh, I, I pretty much never find original goosebumps books.
[00:22:12] Very it's, it's extraordinarily rare.
[00:22:14] I will find, you know, maybe a dead time stories or one of the goosebumps knockoffs.
[00:22:20] I'll find some other books that I find interesting, but yeah, not, not goosebumps, not, not the originals from the nineties.
[00:22:26] I can't even find bone chillers, right?
[00:22:29] Sorry.
[00:22:30] You found bone chillers, the, um, the clown.
[00:22:33] Yeah.
[00:22:34] I found, I found killer clown of Kings County in the wild.
[00:22:37] That was such an awesome find.
[00:22:39] It was, it was this, uh, thrift store that is never open.
[00:22:45] So this person owns it and they just never open it unless maybe, so the, the person who owns, it's also a tennis instructor.
[00:22:54] And sometimes her students want to come into the thrift shop and then she'll open it.
[00:22:57] And I was just walking by at the moment when she opened it.
[00:23:01] So I went in and yeah, that was just one of, it was just part of this pile of books from the nineties, all these kids horror books.
[00:23:09] And, uh, I was, I was just floored.
[00:23:11] Yeah.
[00:23:12] And that was, but strangely enough, that was the fourth one I found.
[00:23:15] I found quite a few.
[00:23:18] That establishment sounds super shady.
[00:23:21] I love it.
[00:23:23] Hey, go to the shady establishments.
[00:23:25] You heard it from me.
[00:23:26] Yep.
[00:23:26] Yeah.
[00:23:27] That's honestly true.
[00:23:29] Like you go into, I've gone into weird looking places, but found like some really good stuff.
[00:23:35] There's a bookshop in, uh, in the airport near me, like at a place you would never think to look for goosebumps, but there was a used bookshop.
[00:23:43] And I went in there once and found like, just honestly, it was a flashback to those aforementioned full shelves at the half price books that used to be there.
[00:23:51] Like almost a full original series set.
[00:23:54] You know, I live in your basement and werewolf skin and like all that stuff.
[00:23:59] And it's just like, Oh, it's so good.
[00:24:01] Honestly.
[00:24:02] Yeah.
[00:24:02] Look for as many places.
[00:24:04] Here's our first bit of advice for you.
[00:24:06] Expiring goosebumps fans.
[00:24:08] Look everywhere.
[00:24:10] Like any place, any place that you can think of that may or may not sell used books.
[00:24:16] Look there because you never know who's going to sell something to that store.
[00:24:21] If they're going to get their hands on anything, you never know.
[00:24:24] So even if it's like, even if it's a store and a shady alley somewhere with a homeless guy sitting outside of it, but they got goosebumps in there.
[00:24:32] Check them out.
[00:24:33] Cause you never know.
[00:24:34] I'm not never ever.
[00:24:35] That makes me think like of the dude in the alley.
[00:24:37] Hey, look what I got.
[00:24:40] Don't you want a little bit of this?
[00:24:43] I had that experience on marketplace when I went to some guy's house.
[00:24:49] I don't know if I mentioned.
[00:24:50] I remember you telling me that.
[00:24:51] Oh yeah.
[00:24:53] So I'll tell you guys while we're on the topic of shady, weird goosebump pickups.
[00:24:57] Uh, this was the most disturbing thought I was going to die situations.
[00:25:04] Like I'm going to die picking up goosebump stuff.
[00:25:06] And I'm like, that's ironic.
[00:25:07] Like that just feels very fitting for my end.
[00:25:10] Um, so there was a guy selling a bunch of, yeah, a bunch of serious three thousands original 62s even had some like merch.
[00:25:19] He had like a puzzle.
[00:25:20] So I was like, Oh dude, I'm going here.
[00:25:22] And he lived in a place called Jim Boomba, which is like, the name is weird as well.
[00:25:28] It's like out in the middle of nowhere.
[00:25:29] It literally was in the outback, mate.
[00:25:33] So I, uh, drove to this guy's place and, uh, he gave me the address.
[00:25:38] So I pulled up and he said, he'd be waiting outside.
[00:25:42] And I'm like, there's no one here.
[00:25:44] And then I hear like 20 houses down, some voice going, Hey, you ever the goosebump books?
[00:25:51] And I'm just like, Oh my God.
[00:25:54] And I was with a friend Logan as well.
[00:25:56] So we both went and I was like, uh, okay.
[00:25:59] So we started walking down to the guy's house and he's like, you can bring your car in and I'll shut the gate.
[00:26:06] And I was like, no, bring my car in, shut the gate.
[00:26:10] Like this sounds really.
[00:26:11] And as we're walking through his property, there's like dogs barking at us, like literally like on leashes and stuff.
[00:26:18] And I'm like, okay, we're dying here.
[00:26:20] This is it.
[00:26:21] We're going to die.
[00:26:22] We're picking up goosebump books.
[00:26:23] This is the end.
[00:26:24] Okay.
[00:26:25] And yeah.
[00:26:25] So we were freaked out, but then we're slowly walking to the back of the property.
[00:26:29] We go on past his house and I'm like, where's he taking us?
[00:26:33] Like we're going to die.
[00:26:35] We go to this like little back room somewhere where the shed is.
[00:26:40] And Logan turns the corner first.
[00:26:42] And as he turns the corner, I'm like, Oh my God.
[00:26:44] Like clobbed on the head.
[00:26:47] You know what I mean?
[00:26:48] And then no, we enter this room and there's just this pile of goosebump books on the ground.
[00:26:52] And I'm like, okay.
[00:26:54] All right.
[00:26:55] And then, yeah.
[00:26:57] So the books on the ground is a puzzle there.
[00:26:59] He had so many series 2000s.
[00:27:00] I think he had like 10 copies of the same, uh, invasion of the body squeezes part one and two.
[00:27:05] Like he had multiple copies of those ones.
[00:27:07] I don't know why.
[00:27:07] And then again, I thought, Hey, why am I saying that?
[00:27:10] I have 30 copies of not the living dummy, two, three, whatever.
[00:27:13] So yeah, he had all this stuff and he's just sitting there like talking to us.
[00:27:19] And he's like, Oh, I told you I had all these goosebump books for you.
[00:27:26] Beeping you.
[00:27:27] I'm not going to say this.
[00:27:28] Yeah.
[00:27:28] But yeah, it was just, Oh dude, it was so terrifying.
[00:27:31] I'm like, I can't believe it.
[00:27:32] But then Leatherface pops up or something.
[00:27:35] You know, I tell them now they're very fast.
[00:27:38] It's very much a Wolf Creek moment for you, all the horror fans.
[00:27:43] If you've watched that, it's pretty fantastic.
[00:27:45] Yeah.
[00:27:46] Great Aussie film Wolf Creek.
[00:27:48] If you haven't seen it, it's very grounded and very real.
[00:27:51] Like it's honestly, it's not like some serial monster.
[00:27:55] It's just a crazy dude that lures you there.
[00:27:58] And yeah, yeah.
[00:28:00] Watch the movie Wolf Creek.
[00:28:01] Yeah.
[00:28:02] But basically that's how like the equivalent here in America, where we have the white vans
[00:28:07] with the guys with the, here, I got some candy for you.
[00:28:10] Come on little kids.
[00:28:11] Basically, this is the goosebumps version of, you know, a kidnapper slash killer.
[00:28:18] Hey, I got some goosebumps for you.
[00:28:19] Come on over here.
[00:28:21] Hey, you like that.
[00:28:22] Don't you?
[00:28:23] Okay.
[00:28:24] Yeah.
[00:28:24] I was like, Chris.
[00:28:26] Yeah.
[00:28:27] Yeah.
[00:28:29] Well, Hey, and I gotta bring, uh, I gotta bring up cause you guys, you know, we were just
[00:28:34] talking about how Jared, you found that super rare bone chillers, but I mean, you both like
[00:28:39] find some really cool stuff.
[00:28:41] Like every now and then, uh, if you guys, uh, have not followed nineties kids library
[00:28:46] and massage goosebumps on Instagram, check them out there, but they're always posting
[00:28:51] about like all the super cool stuff that they find goosebumps or otherwise.
[00:28:55] Uh, but I gotta ask you guys, what is like, what are some of the best things you ever
[00:29:00] found in collecting?
[00:29:01] Uh, Ellis, let's start with you.
[00:29:04] So this was a year ago, even though it's not as rare now, but back then it meant the world
[00:29:09] to me.
[00:29:11] Um, I remember that I was on a hunt for the art of goosebumps.
[00:29:14] It was nowhere.
[00:29:16] Like it was just rare.
[00:29:17] And if you were ever to find one online, I think it was like, I saw one for $350 that
[00:29:24] was sold at that price.
[00:29:25] I was like, so I just started like looking online for like a lot of, you know, eBay, Amazon
[00:29:32] and all those places, there was nothing.
[00:29:34] Um, so I started like, I went to Google and I tried, there's this, um, option like advanced
[00:29:41] search or something.
[00:29:43] So I just did that several days and I came upon this bookstore in Chicago and they had their
[00:29:51] own website and they had only one book in stock.
[00:29:54] I'm like, okay.
[00:29:57] So, and it was $29.99 at the time.
[00:30:00] And I was like, this book is being sold like over two or $300.
[00:30:04] I was like, if I lose 30 bucks, it's not that bad.
[00:30:07] At least I will try.
[00:30:08] So then I just purchased it and it was like, okay, we're fulfilling your order and blah,
[00:30:13] blah, blah.
[00:30:13] So after two days, um, I called a store and I just to confirm like, Hey, I purchased the
[00:30:21] book, the art of goosebumps.
[00:30:22] Is that actually coming?
[00:30:24] And they're like, yeah, yeah.
[00:30:24] We're just like packing it up right now.
[00:30:27] You're lucky.
[00:30:28] It was the last one we have.
[00:30:29] And it even comes with, um, Tim Jacobus autograph, like a book plate with it.
[00:30:37] So I think I waited like four days, but I still didn't believe it.
[00:30:41] I'm the kind of person if I don't have in my hand, like, so I just waited and waited.
[00:30:47] And then once I had it, I was like, wow.
[00:30:50] It even came with, um, the, I wouldn't say like a price tag, but it did say in the back
[00:30:57] something about if you go to the front counter, uh, we have book plates of the, of the author.
[00:31:03] So yeah, Tim Jacobus signed that.
[00:31:05] And I was like, wow, for me, it was like, it was amazing.
[00:31:08] And then, um, I believe you guys, that was like April last year.
[00:31:14] And I think you guys started the podcast.
[00:31:16] Like was it November, December?
[00:31:18] Yep.
[00:31:18] November of last of 2023.
[00:31:21] Yep.
[00:31:21] Your third episode, I remember it was with Tim Jacobus where he said that they were making
[00:31:25] more.
[00:31:26] So I was like, Oh, cool.
[00:31:27] Cool.
[00:31:28] Cause I had an extra one and somebody was like, please sell it to me.
[00:31:31] Please sell it to me.
[00:31:33] I was like, how much?
[00:31:34] And they're like 200.
[00:31:35] All right.
[00:31:35] And I just sold it.
[00:31:37] I was before you guys had the podcast.
[00:31:39] But then after that, I was like, whew, I sold it on time.
[00:31:42] I use that.
[00:31:43] Yeah.
[00:31:44] Yeah.
[00:31:45] Well, I was about to say is like, Oh, I wonder how the dude who bought that for 300, 350,
[00:31:50] like what's feeling after that.
[00:31:52] Hopefully he doesn't want to podcast and never found out.
[00:31:55] The thing is that that was first edition, first printing.
[00:31:58] I mean, first edition, first printing.
[00:32:00] Mm-hmm .
[00:32:00] So it's, it's valuable as well.
[00:32:02] You know, if you compare it.
[00:32:05] Yeah.
[00:32:05] Yeah.
[00:32:06] Another piece of advice for Goosebumps fans, real quick.
[00:32:09] First printings, first editions.
[00:32:11] Those are the rarest things you could find of any book, even a new one.
[00:32:16] Like eventually 10, 10 years later is going to be probably like 10 or 15 printings of that
[00:32:20] book.
[00:32:21] So grab the first printing while you can, cause you never know how much it's going to
[00:32:24] be.
[00:32:25] Uh, like welcome to dead house.
[00:32:27] First print, first edition.
[00:32:30] Probably some of the rarest of the rare.
[00:32:32] I'm trying to find.
[00:32:33] I got four of them.
[00:32:36] You have four?
[00:32:37] Wow.
[00:32:39] I sold one, but yeah, I still have three.
[00:32:42] That stuff is super rare right there.
[00:32:45] So if you find even an original series, if you don't think it's a, you know, don't think
[00:32:50] it's that special check.
[00:32:52] If it's a first printing, it is special.
[00:32:55] And sorry, there's one on Etsy.
[00:32:57] I don't know if it's still there for, I think they were, it was on discount for like
[00:33:00] 45 bucks.
[00:33:01] I think, I think the person selling it didn't, doesn't know it's a first printing.
[00:33:05] Mm-hmm .
[00:33:07] And welcome to, welcome to dead house.
[00:33:09] First printing.
[00:33:10] Yeah.
[00:33:10] It only has a sticker on the cover though.
[00:33:13] So I don't know if you remove that it's like a flames or something like that.
[00:33:18] Oh, I saw that one that was on eBay for a while.
[00:33:21] Yeah.
[00:33:22] Yeah.
[00:33:22] I don't think you could remove that sticker without damaging the RL Stein part.
[00:33:26] Yeah.
[00:33:27] Yeah.
[00:33:27] Another thing for goose bones fans.
[00:33:29] Don't put stickers on your damn books.
[00:33:31] It's like the guy that bought up every single copy of welcome to camp nightmare VHS.
[00:33:36] And now he's just like trying to sell them for some ridiculous price because it's like probably
[00:33:42] the last goose bum VHS that came out in the UK, like anywhere.
[00:33:46] And it's just, I don't know who the guy is, but Nick, I think you know who he is, but he
[00:33:49] bought like every copy of welcome to camp nightmare VHS.
[00:33:52] And he's just like selling them.
[00:33:54] Oh, and one more thing to that point about the first printings, the first six books in
[00:34:01] the Goosebumps original series that have no numbers on their spines.
[00:34:05] Those are early additions right there.
[00:34:08] So definitely grab those.
[00:34:09] If you see one without a number, get it because it's rare.
[00:34:12] It's very rare.
[00:34:13] I have some duplicates right there right now.
[00:34:16] Looking.
[00:34:16] Oh, let me.
[00:34:17] I have a lot of, uh, I have a lot of monster blood ones, uh, with no numbers, but I've also
[00:34:22] found mummy's tomb.
[00:34:25] Say cheese and die and actually a living dummy edition.
[00:34:29] Yeah.
[00:34:30] I think mummy's tomb is probably the most common to find.
[00:34:32] I found more monster bloods.
[00:34:35] But, um, I did, I find the out of the basement twice in the same fricking book vest.
[00:34:41] Nick knows about that.
[00:34:42] I was like, what?
[00:34:43] Same book vest.
[00:34:44] Stay out of the basement.
[00:34:45] Two copies.
[00:34:46] First prints.
[00:34:47] I was like, holy moly.
[00:34:49] So that was, that was pretty exciting.
[00:34:51] And Jared, what about you?
[00:34:53] Some of the best pieces in your collection that you found?
[00:34:56] Uh, well, um, like, like lucky finds I'm assuming right now.
[00:35:00] Once that I ended up urging on.
[00:35:02] Yeah.
[00:35:02] So, uh, definitely that bone chiller's book I found in the wild.
[00:35:07] That was pretty amazing.
[00:35:08] I found a special edition return to tower tower one time at a used bookstore for a couple
[00:35:13] bucks.
[00:35:14] Um, the best, I, I don't know how much we want to dig into like all the advice I'd have
[00:35:19] though, but really the best finds that I get are just all online.
[00:35:23] I search, I search pretty often.
[00:35:25] Just whenever I have a free moment, I'll just like scroll through eBay.
[00:35:28] I'll look through my alerts.
[00:35:30] And, uh, if I see a good deal, then I grab it.
[00:35:34] And sometimes there's books that maybe aren't too hard to find.
[00:35:38] And I just, it took me a while to get them just because I, I really, I'm, I'm at heart.
[00:35:44] I'm a bargain hunter.
[00:35:44] So I have to get a really good deal on all my books.
[00:35:47] That's just how I am.
[00:35:49] And, uh, I, I think that I guess I would have a lot of advice.
[00:35:55] So yeah.
[00:35:56] For that part right now.
[00:35:58] Yeah.
[00:35:58] We'll get to that a little later.
[00:35:59] I'm okay.
[00:36:00] Yeah.
[00:36:00] I'm curious to hear your advice.
[00:36:02] Um, more to the point about, uh, online collecting.
[00:36:05] Actually, first of all, um, I forgive me.
[00:36:08] I don't remember if it, which one of you was it, or even if it was one of you who found the special edition, super rare tales to give you goosebumps book in a random, uh, lot.
[00:36:21] I feel like it was someone was it, was it you, Jared?
[00:36:24] Uh, I mean, I've definitely found the tales to give you goosebumps books.
[00:36:28] Oh, you're talking, are you talking about the sneak preview?
[00:36:31] That's what I meant.
[00:36:32] Yeah.
[00:36:32] Yeah.
[00:36:33] That one I got online for 20 bucks.
[00:36:35] Yeah.
[00:36:35] I was, I was really excited.
[00:36:36] It popped up on Mercari and I just, I, I, I've never bought something faster.
[00:36:41] Yeah.
[00:36:42] Yeah.
[00:36:42] You even found a, a revenge, a revenge of the lawn gnomes book in a lot too.
[00:36:47] You have good luck with lots.
[00:36:49] That's well, that's, that would be one of the central pieces of my advice is to buy big lots, but we can, yeah.
[00:36:55] Yeah.
[00:36:55] Yeah.
[00:36:55] That later.
[00:36:56] Well, and, uh, you brought up Mercari.
[00:36:59] So that's another thing I want to bring up in terms of advice.
[00:37:02] Look at Mercari and actually look at any, like everybody's first instinct is to go to eBay and eBay can have some good stuff.
[00:37:10] Most definitely, but a lot of those aforementioned people who sell stuff for big prices usually go to eBay.
[00:37:19] So if you're looking for mainstream stuff, you'll probably find it there, but the price is going to be big.
[00:37:26] If you, however, want, uh, I don't mean to cut you off, but if you ever, if you ever want, uh, to find goosebump stuff, that's maybe not as highly priced, but you're going to probably find some good stuff.
[00:37:37] Go to Mercari, go to Etsy, go to Pinterest.
[00:37:42] Like all these like places that Facebook marketplace, like these places, like they're not all, you're not always going to find gold, but like when it shows up, it's going to be there and it's going to be for at least a decent price.
[00:37:58] Um, I got that, um, goosebumps, the attack of the mutant computer game.
[00:38:05] I don't know if guys remember that brand new seal for 10 bucks off marketplace.
[00:38:10] And it was a sample copy.
[00:38:12] Mm-hmm.
[00:38:13] And I found a trigger trapped.
[00:38:16] Give yourself goosebumps.
[00:38:17] I found that book on Facebook marketplace in a lot of four books for $5.
[00:38:23] So basically I paid a dollar 25 for one of the hardest to find black spine special editions.
[00:38:31] That was a good one right there.
[00:38:32] But, uh, Jared, I apologize.
[00:38:34] I was cutting you off.
[00:38:35] What did you have to say?
[00:38:37] Oh, I, and I just wanted to mention that, you know, eBay, the reason that the prices are so much higher is that they give you recommendations on how much to sell it for.
[00:38:45] Um, based on previous sales, once you're actually posting it, uh, Mercari, I don't know if they do that, but if they do, they just don't have as much of a, like a history, a sales history for each, each of the items.
[00:38:56] But also the, that whole algorithm that eBay uses to recommend prices for things can also work in your favor because sometimes it thinks that the seller is selling one book when really they're selling another one, or they're selling a big lot of books that has TV presents revenge of the law gnome in it.
[00:39:15] Um, I also got trick or trapped in a big lot one time, pretty cheap.
[00:39:19] Uh, yeah.
[00:39:20] So that's, it can work in your favor too.
[00:39:23] Sometimes eBay works out, but yeah, Mercari is also really good.
[00:39:26] Mm hmm.
[00:39:26] Yeah.
[00:39:27] That's one I feel most people are slowly but surely finding.
[00:39:30] It took me a while to like really hop on the Mercari train too.
[00:39:34] Um, I'm not huge on, uh, online goosebumps shopping.
[00:39:37] I, I like the thrill of going out in the wild and finding stuff, but, uh, I would definitely say if you're ever defined like rare stuff, um, or just sort of like merchandise, I would definitely go to Mercari or Etsy because there can be some good stuff over there.
[00:39:51] One for whatnot as well.
[00:39:54] What not?
[00:39:54] Yeah.
[00:39:55] I want to say, I got, um, so I got like a, uh, fan club pack very recently from Mercari.
[00:40:02] It was completely filled up with the bunch of like old merch and, uh, and, and a lot of the original fan club, uh, uh, paraphernalia.
[00:40:10] And I got that for 25 bucks on Mercari.
[00:40:12] It was, it was just amazing.
[00:40:14] It was, I'm so happy cause I've been looking for one for a while and I've been seeing like just the boxes alone are selling for like a hundred bucks.
[00:40:21] And I just want to spend that.
[00:40:23] But yeah, check out Mercari.
[00:40:26] Yeah.
[00:40:26] Yeah, definitely.
[00:40:28] Um, I also got to talk about the one time I went to half price books and I found two sealed, uh, box sets of the original series.
[00:40:37] So, uh, for those familiar, the original series, there's some box sets of four books, uh, that came out in the nineties.
[00:40:45] And I found two of them like two years ago or even maybe three years ago, uh, at half price books and they were sealed and they came with a door knocker.
[00:40:56] Uh, and they're on my shelf back there, but it was, uh, books one through four and five through eight, um, 50 bucks for both, uh, together.
[00:41:06] So there were 25 each.
[00:41:07] Uh, that was a fantastic find right there.
[00:41:10] That was like one of my best finds out in the wild.
[00:41:13] Nothing beats finding things in the wild for goosebumps.
[00:41:16] Like, especially like the books are amazing.
[00:41:18] I love finding the books, but if you find a piece of merch in the wall, nothing really compares to that feeling.
[00:41:26] Cause you don't, that's what you don't see any, anything off.
[00:41:29] And when you do it, you might find a game.
[00:41:31] You might just tape, you may even find an audio book, but when you find something like, like that sitting on a shelf, it's like, Oh my God.
[00:41:41] Like that feeling is just like incredible.
[00:41:44] Especially if it is at a thrift store or something and someone's just like donated it and it's ended up there.
[00:41:49] But they, now I hear they have a section at the thrift stores where they put like all the rest behind the counter.
[00:41:55] So I feel like these days behind the counter and slap like 80 bucks, a hundred or something.
[00:42:02] I don't know, whatever on there, but it's the best feeling ever.
[00:42:05] Like, you know, I found a whole set of goosebumps.
[00:42:08] I found a big duffel bag, like sports bag.
[00:42:11] I found a school bag and a fanny pack all together with tags on them and they all had cuddles on them.
[00:42:17] So it was like a set and it just looked like old stock and it was 10 bucks a piece.
[00:42:23] And that was four years ago.
[00:42:26] So yeah, it's just another, sorry.
[00:42:28] Another advice based on what Jared said was I remember, I think it was earlier this year.
[00:42:36] Um, there was this person that was selling, um, the only person I've seen, the only two people that I've seen, if you guys have had here on the podcast, I've had, um, this Panini magazine of goosebumps from Spain have been goosebumps completionists.
[00:42:53] And, um, Lucas, Jude de Lucas.
[00:42:58] Yeah.
[00:43:00] The only thing is that you, the Lucas I think has, there are three magazines that came out called pesadillas, which is the Spanish version of goosebumps.
[00:43:08] Um, and, um, they were on eBay a while back and they were there for a long time.
[00:43:14] Um, so I started like trying to get a better deal with the person cause the price was pretty high.
[00:43:20] Um, eventually like every two months I was like, Hey, you still have them.
[00:43:23] Would you accept this offer?
[00:43:25] And eventually they said, yeah, sure.
[00:43:27] But then the advice comes here.
[00:43:29] Like whoever is selling you something online or in person always asked, do you have anything else?
[00:43:35] Do you have anything?
[00:43:35] Cause like, for example, um, they might have an extra curly brains, you know, lying around there.
[00:43:42] Um, so then he's like, yeah, I actually have these figurines, um, that came out and it's like a special promotion between goosebumps and Pepsi.
[00:43:52] I'm like, never heard about that.
[00:43:55] Um, so then, yeah, he's like, I'll, I'll send you pictures.
[00:43:59] They're basically the same figurines that Bjorn has the tombola.
[00:44:03] Um, but they come like in a different presentation.
[00:44:07] So they're supposed to be two boxes with, I think seven figurines in each one.
[00:44:12] And it says like pesadillas, Pepsi promo, something like that.
[00:44:18] So I actually purchased that as well.
[00:44:19] And that was not listed.
[00:44:20] Um, I haven't shown that yet on my Instagram page, planning on doing that soon.
[00:44:26] But, um, that was pretty interesting to find cause I never expected that.
[00:44:30] Cause I was like, these seem familiar, but then another advice that I would give is, um, I remember Bjorn.
[00:44:38] I, I, I, I've been following him for a while.
[00:44:40] And if I need to like find some information about goosebumps, I would go five, six, seven years ago on his videos.
[00:44:50] And I remember I found this guy and he was talking about.
[00:44:55] Yeah.
[00:44:56] Yeah.
[00:44:57] So I have a duplicate if anybody wants this, but, um, but yeah, these, I remember you said that they were, they were not sold.
[00:45:05] They were just like a promo, I believe.
[00:45:08] Promo competition.
[00:45:09] Um, there was when the movies came out, as I said, like, obviously we didn't get much merch at all.
[00:45:14] Like official license stuff that you could go pick up.
[00:45:18] All you got was some posters, the movie board game, soundtrack vinyl.
[00:45:22] You had the Tim Jacobus art or just the movie poster art.
[00:45:26] And then you had like the CD and in Australia did like a show bag.
[00:45:29] So there was just little, little crumbs, like sprinkled here in Australia, a little few crumbs there.
[00:45:35] And then in Canada, they had an actual bobblehead you could buy.
[00:45:38] They had a key chain of the, um, Jack O'Land and they had a pen of the lawn nose that would like slide as you like moved it.
[00:45:46] And it was just like three random items in this store.
[00:45:49] So there was little to nothing, but then they started posting all these competition ads all over like Facebook and stuff.
[00:45:57] And it was like, enter this.
[00:45:57] It was like some over in the UK or some over in Australia, some over in, um, yeah, in the U S and one of them specifically was for that bobblehead, a tote bag, um, some stationary stuff.
[00:46:10] Yeah.
[00:46:10] And yeah, it was literally just for that promotion, that competition, the bobblehead.
[00:46:16] That's it.
[00:46:17] And I've seen maybe about a dozen of them in total.
[00:46:21] I have two just in my collection.
[00:46:23] That's something cause Avery Jones gave me his one.
[00:46:25] Cause he had a couple as well.
[00:46:27] He gave me one, but yeah, that bobblehead.
[00:46:29] I don't know the exact number of how many there are, but I'm going to say it is.
[00:46:34] And you're lucky if there's maybe 30 in the world, maybe.
[00:46:37] Um, so yeah, when, when you were looking for it, it's like, dude, just buy it because you don't know one day in 10, 15, 20 years, like how much that could be worth.
[00:46:48] And yeah.
[00:46:49] So, but that's why I bought two, just like I could always have one.
[00:46:52] And then one day if I am desperate, I will sell the other, but yeah, it's, you know, it's, it's one of those really cool items that you just couldn't buy.
[00:47:00] You had to literally be there to win it or hope that the people that did win them were selling them.
[00:47:04] And that's what happened.
[00:47:05] Uh, a lot of those that won the competitions, they sold the stuff.
[00:47:08] That's how I got all the movie promo stuff was just through, you know, people winning and then selling.
[00:47:13] And I saw some people win a competition and then within like two days, they were already up on eBay or whatever.
[00:47:19] And it was crazy.
[00:47:20] Like a guy that won the law known competition.
[00:47:23] Cause I didn't win it.
[00:47:24] It was to get the original prop from the movie of the law known.
[00:47:27] He messaged me like later that day after winning it saying, Hey, I don't actually want this, but I'd rather send it to you.
[00:47:33] Cause I'd rather you have it in your collection.
[00:47:35] I was like, Oh, how much do you want for it?
[00:47:37] And he's like, I don't really want money.
[00:47:38] Like, I just wanted to go to a good home.
[00:47:40] Can you just pay for the postage?
[00:47:41] And I was like, what?
[00:47:43] So I just paid to get it.
[00:47:44] Yeah.
[00:47:44] That's the original problem.
[00:47:46] Like one of the coolest props you could have from the movie would be obviously one of the law
[00:47:49] gnomes and maybe like the slappy doll.
[00:47:52] He could get one, but when you find out how much it's worth, well, that ain't going to happen.
[00:47:56] So to get the war gnomes was kind of the next best thing in a way to have.
[00:48:00] So yeah, I was, I was stoked to get that.
[00:48:02] And I didn't have to pay anything.
[00:48:03] It was just a, here you go.
[00:48:04] Look after it.
[00:48:05] I'd rather you have it, you know?
[00:48:07] And he's like, in a way I kind of entered the competition, hoping to win it and just like,
[00:48:10] give it to you.
[00:48:10] So I was like, cool.
[00:48:14] Yeah.
[00:48:14] There's one, you know, there's been one on eBay for a while now.
[00:48:17] I've been watching it.
[00:48:17] It's been, uh, going up and down.
[00:48:19] One of those lawn gnomes.
[00:48:21] Uh, it's, uh, for a while it was like 3000 and then it went to 1500 and then it's back
[00:48:26] to 3000 now.
[00:48:27] So I'm probably not getting it, but yeah.
[00:48:30] Just, you know, if you win the lottery or something, pennies now, I'll buy that.
[00:48:36] That's why I'm keeping an eye on it, you know, for when that, uh, you know, giant financial,
[00:48:39] uh, thing happens to me and I have all the money, I'll just get it.
[00:48:42] There you go.
[00:48:43] Yeah.
[00:48:43] When I tell people all the time, like, cause I'm always talking about like goosebumps, probably
[00:48:48] a nauseam to my friends, but they're always shocked that like goosebumps had so much merchandise.
[00:48:54] And I'm like, definitely like you would, this goose, goose bumps is a franchise that like,
[00:49:00] you would not believe how much stuff there is for goosebumps.
[00:49:04] And you know, as, as we always talk about, like, there's just, it seemed like there's
[00:49:09] everything for goosebumps and like, whether it be, you know, merchandise or books or DVDs,
[00:49:15] like all sorts of stuff, promotional stuff that never got released.
[00:49:18] Like it's always like, if Bjorn's collection is a testament to anything is that there is
[00:49:24] thousands, like probably tens of thousands of a goosebumps things out there.
[00:49:30] Like, like in every single way.
[00:49:33] And the crazy part is like, and Bjorn and I have talked about it before.
[00:49:36] Like we still find new stuff.
[00:49:38] We never knew existed probably on a weekly basis.
[00:49:42] Yeah.
[00:49:43] Like it's wild.
[00:49:44] There's an air mattress.
[00:49:45] That's not advertised on any of the other camping gear things that you can buy.
[00:49:50] Like the camping tent, the, the, um, what do you call it?
[00:49:54] Sleeping bag, the tote bag thingy.
[00:49:57] They brought all those items that have like the back.
[00:50:00] Cause obviously it has the promotion on the back of what else is available from that
[00:50:03] same company.
[00:50:04] None of them promote an air mattress at all.
[00:50:07] So when one randomly went up on eBay, it was like, oh, there's an air mattress too.
[00:50:10] That wasn't promoted on any of these.
[00:50:13] Like, and not only that it's, but it's literally the same exact design as a sleeping bag of the
[00:50:19] mummy on the skateboard.
[00:50:19] So it's, it's identical.
[00:50:21] It's just an air mattress, not a sleeping bag.
[00:50:23] Um, but I didn't buy it because it was, it was really damaged the box as we, yeah,
[00:50:30] it was, I was like, look, it's out there now.
[00:50:32] I know it exists.
[00:50:33] I'll just wait.
[00:50:34] Well, there's even a, there was like a prototype toy that made its way onto eBay like last month.
[00:50:41] And that was a, that was a big deal right there.
[00:50:43] Cause it's like, it's not just a toy.
[00:50:45] It's a unreleased prototype that like never made it to, made it to stores.
[00:50:51] And you know, up until that point there was just a, like an advertisement or like some kind
[00:50:57] of print ad for it.
[00:50:59] Um, what's it called?
[00:51:01] The.
[00:51:01] The catalog, wasn't it?
[00:51:03] The company that made it.
[00:51:04] It was like the main.
[00:51:05] It was Hasbro.
[00:51:07] Yeah.
[00:51:07] Hasbro.
[00:51:07] So Hasbro initially had a toy deal with goosebumps and they were going to do a whole line of goosebumps
[00:51:12] toys and everything.
[00:51:14] And what surfaced was, it was basically a slappy doll, but it looked more like a Barbie doll
[00:51:20] with slappy.
[00:51:22] Yeah.
[00:51:23] It, it, it, it's weird.
[00:51:25] Cause the body is big and it's small.
[00:51:27] I was going to say it looked like a Goomba from the Mario movie, like gigantic body and
[00:51:33] little bitty head.
[00:51:34] Yeah.
[00:51:35] I wanted it.
[00:51:36] And, but then the thing is a lot of people were posting about it and I kind of was like,
[00:51:41] it's really cool, but I'm not paying like 800 or whatever it was going to be Australian.
[00:51:46] Yeah.
[00:51:47] How much, how much did it end up selling for?
[00:51:48] I know you were keeping an eye on it.
[00:51:50] I think it was about US dollars.
[00:51:53] I don't know.
[00:51:53] It was like three or four.
[00:51:56] But when you convert that to an Australian dollar, it's another 300 on top of that.
[00:52:00] Probably things.
[00:52:01] Plus the post it was like 800 something Australian dollars.
[00:52:04] And I was like, I'm not paying that for a candle.
[00:52:06] I do have a prototype of one of the monster bags though.
[00:52:10] The slappy monster bag.
[00:52:12] And it's like an unpainted one.
[00:52:13] I do have that.
[00:52:14] That actually came from Avery Jones as well.
[00:52:16] He gave me like a whole bag of just prototype little slappy figures.
[00:52:21] So I have those that they're pretty cool.
[00:52:23] But yeah, no, it's, it's a shame.
[00:52:26] Like, but then it makes you think there was those other toys.
[00:52:29] Those more than 18 inch ones.
[00:52:31] Yeah.
[00:52:32] Yeah.
[00:52:32] The last one.
[00:52:34] And I'm like, really cool.
[00:52:36] They must exist.
[00:52:38] Well, that's the thing.
[00:52:39] It's like, if one exists, then they all must exist.
[00:52:42] Like somewhere out there in the world.
[00:52:44] Pictures of them.
[00:52:45] So, I mean, they had to.
[00:52:46] I was going to say that.
[00:52:47] That reason alone.
[00:52:48] They took pictures.
[00:52:48] It was found on an estate.
[00:52:50] Like it was just in some like random estate.
[00:52:53] And then it just like.
[00:52:55] Yeah.
[00:52:55] Yeah.
[00:52:55] Just like some dude found it and put it on eBay.
[00:52:58] It's like never underestimate where things are going to pop up, where and when things
[00:53:02] are going to pop up.
[00:53:03] You never, ever, ever know.
[00:53:05] That's why, again, you're looking.
[00:53:07] Keep, keep your eye on things because if you're looking for Goosebomb stuff, you never
[00:53:13] know when one day you're going to be the one who stumbles on a, on a listing for something
[00:53:17] like super, like hard to find or like God, like one of, one of a kind, that sort of thing.
[00:53:26] Dude that found the, so obviously, you know, during, like you were saying with COVID, everything
[00:53:31] was skyrocketing in price.
[00:53:33] So like Pokemon cards were like the biggest thing happening during then.
[00:53:38] Like Logan Paul, I'm not a fan of him, but he made all those videos of like buying
[00:53:41] those first edition boxes that were like $400,000 he paid for some.
[00:53:47] And I'm like, and then there was that dude that literally found in his closet, half a dozen
[00:53:51] boxes untouched of those first edition boxes.
[00:53:55] And so he sold them during that time.
[00:53:58] And he, now he's a millionaire.
[00:53:59] So yeah.
[00:54:01] Yeah.
[00:54:02] But come on, man.
[00:54:03] If you thought it's still big, man, I'm telling you what it's crazy.
[00:54:07] It hasn't died down.
[00:54:08] Like Goosebomb stuff hasn't died down.
[00:54:10] Like I kind of, cause Goosebomb stuff goes through a flow, you know, you'll hit some
[00:54:14] lows and that's when the time to buy happens, you know, but honestly we've been at a steady,
[00:54:19] you know, it kind of went up and then leveled.
[00:54:22] It hasn't really went back down.
[00:54:24] There's actually quite a bit of stuff that like, I remember getting, I don't know, like
[00:54:28] six, seven years ago for pretty cheap.
[00:54:31] I mean, considering what today, like the freaky frame, for instance, you know, I, I don't
[00:54:37] know.
[00:54:37] I think I've had like 80 bucks for that thing or something back, back in the day.
[00:54:41] And I thought that was a lot, but now I'm seeing people trying to sell it on eBay for
[00:54:44] like two 50, $300.
[00:54:46] I'm like, guys, come on collectors.
[00:54:49] It's cool.
[00:54:50] Collectors.
[00:54:51] Like community is super large right now.
[00:54:53] And that sort of stuff is it's inevitable.
[00:54:56] Uh, like I said, I feel like it started with the movie when, uh, goosebumps officially
[00:55:00] became a nostalgic property.
[00:55:03] Um, so it was just, it was just an inevitable turn of events.
[00:55:08] But, uh, one thing I got to give shout out to for also putting me actually two things,
[00:55:13] uh, that put me on the path to wanting to collect goosebumps.
[00:55:16] One of them is, uh, my former neighbor.
[00:55:19] Uh, I, before we moved to where I currently live, I used to live on a street and right
[00:55:25] across the street was a friend of mine who had his own little goosebumps collection.
[00:55:30] He wasn't much of a collector, but he would like, he had his own like shelf of goosebumps
[00:55:35] and I was always so jealous of him because I was just starting out.
[00:55:39] So every time I would go over, I'd be like, I'd go into the room and just like stare at
[00:55:44] the books.
[00:55:44] I'm just like, I wish I had you.
[00:55:50] And now I have collection.
[00:55:53] Exactly.
[00:55:55] And now I have that in like tens fold.
[00:55:57] So sometimes I'll just look at it.
[00:55:58] Sometimes I'll just look at my shelf and just be like, hot damn.
[00:56:02] That's beautiful.
[00:56:04] I got the main thing you wanted from my collection, Nick.
[00:56:06] You got that cardboard VHS thing.
[00:56:09] That's true.
[00:56:10] At least I know if you ever decided to, well, I know you're never getting rid of it, but
[00:56:14] it would just go back to me.
[00:56:21] But another thing I have to give shout out to is, I don't know if you guys are familiar
[00:56:25] with this like I am, but back in the early days of YouTube, I used to prove for goosebumps
[00:56:32] videos and there were people who would make videos of their goosebumps collections.
[00:56:37] Crazy concept.
[00:56:38] I know, but it would be like those things where they would have like a little camcorder,
[00:56:43] like no lighting at all.
[00:56:45] And they would just have their stuff like stacked and just be like, Oh, today I'm going to be
[00:56:49] showing off my goosebumps collection.
[00:56:51] Starting off, we have welcome to dead house and we have stay out of the basement.
[00:56:55] And I don't know.
[00:56:56] I just loved those kinds of videos.
[00:56:59] I ate them up like candy to the point where I wanted to make my own, but I didn't have
[00:57:04] a YouTube channel at that point.
[00:57:05] So it was just kind of for my own prosperity.
[00:57:09] But no, it's just, I don't know.
[00:57:13] What else can you really say?
[00:57:14] It's just like, there's a lot of fun to goosebumps collecting.
[00:57:18] And you know, we've, I feel like we've all found like really cool stuff online or in the wild.
[00:57:23] Uh, and we've kind of been giving our advice up to this point, but, uh, I want to really, uh, hone in on that a little more.
[00:57:29] Um, especially with, uh, you Jared and Elvis, uh, what advice other advice would you give to any aspiring goosebumps collectors out there who are looking to start or grow a, their own collection?
[00:57:43] Um, yeah.
[00:57:45] Yeah.
[00:57:45] I mean, um, having alerts, depending on the app that you're using is very important.
[00:57:51] That's how I came across with the, um, recently the, um, 2000 fan club box.
[00:57:58] Um, I was just, I was about to go to sleep.
[00:58:02] So I was like, let me go to eBay.
[00:58:04] And it was like, uh, and I started reading and I saw the cap cause normally the cap is always missing or something.
[00:58:10] And I was like, oh my God, it's here.
[00:58:14] So I was like, I mean, I read the description first to make sure.
[00:58:18] And it said that I believe everything is complete.
[00:58:21] I'm like, and I started looking quickly before purchased it, um, ask more questions about it.
[00:58:27] I always liked to find like the background history of the items.
[00:58:30] Like who was the owner?
[00:58:31] Where are they coming from?
[00:58:33] Um, so after that, I remember when I had it in my hands, I messaged, but you're, I was like, Hey, I just got this.
[00:58:41] And then we just, we just started talking about it.
[00:58:43] He showed me his collection.
[00:58:45] Do you have this?
[00:58:45] I'm like, yes, you have this.
[00:58:46] Yes.
[00:58:47] You have this.
[00:58:48] It was really cool.
[00:58:49] And then I, I noticed that I was missing, um, a screen newsletter magazine, which is purple with the, with that, um, series.
[00:58:58] So I was like, I've seen this before.
[00:59:00] And, and I remember, I think a year ago, I believe, uh, you Nick had that magazine in a fan club box.
[00:59:06] I think it was Curly's the bigger one.
[00:59:09] It was a, it was a different fan club box though.
[00:59:12] Yeah.
[00:59:12] Yeah.
[00:59:13] So it was there.
[00:59:14] Obviously you had already sold it.
[00:59:15] I was like, so then I started looking for, that was my new hunt.
[00:59:19] And, and guess who had it?
[00:59:23] You all know him.
[00:59:24] Who?
[00:59:25] You aren't.
[00:59:26] It's Curly.
[00:59:26] It's Curly.
[00:59:27] Yeah.
[00:59:28] He had, he had it in a lot.
[00:59:30] So I purchased a lot.
[00:59:31] I was like, well, I like that fan box too.
[00:59:33] So I'll take that fan box.
[00:59:35] I'll take the newsletter and I'll complete the other one.
[00:59:38] So I ended up with two fan box in a week.
[00:59:41] Um, which I was not planning on, but you know, it's so having alerts is very important.
[00:59:48] That's when you know what you're looking for.
[00:59:50] But if not, I mean, you have to think first, like if you just want the books, merchandise,
[00:59:56] rare items.
[00:59:57] Um, yeah, it's just, I guess if you're beginning, just start with the books and see where that
[01:00:03] takes you, you know?
[01:00:04] Like, yeah, the books are going to be the, definitely some, yeah, the books are the easiest
[01:00:10] thing for sure.
[01:00:11] But it's, it's really like, because hobbies are so expensive and goosebumps is now.
[01:00:17] Uh, if you're just getting into it though, it's, it's nice to maybe focus on one thing
[01:00:22] that you want.
[01:00:24] So you don't have to collect everything goosebumps.
[01:00:26] Cause if you do that, you're going to be like Bjorn and have to dedicate like a whole
[01:00:29] room to your house for all your stuff.
[01:00:34] And it's, it's like, it's crazy.
[01:00:37] Uh, the stuff he has, he got a good deal.
[01:00:40] Cause at the time of getting nobody wanted goosebumps.
[01:00:42] Now that's back.
[01:00:44] That's my advice.
[01:00:46] Definitely stick to something that you like.
[01:00:49] If there's someone in particular, that's a little more costly.
[01:00:52] Definitely wait for a good deal.
[01:00:53] Cause somebody at some point will probably sell one at a decent price.
[01:00:57] You don't have to buy it right away.
[01:00:59] Now I will say the fan club 2000 pack.
[01:01:01] That's so rare.
[01:01:04] I, that's one of the items I can't say you can do that with, uh, much like the cuckoo clock
[01:01:09] that Bjorn has in the box.
[01:01:12] Like I've never seen another one in the box besides his, if that ever popped up, it's only
[01:01:17] offered like a thousand dollars for it'd be gone in a second.
[01:01:21] It'd be good.
[01:01:21] It's so rare.
[01:01:23] Most of the other stuff, common stuff like the, you know, like say the masks of on a mask
[01:01:28] and curly, uh, voice changer thing, or, you know, like door knocker.
[01:01:34] Yeah.
[01:01:34] The slappy tape dispenser, things like that.
[01:01:37] Uh, if you just click slappy, there you go.
[01:01:40] Something like that.
[01:01:41] Well, there's people that do that.
[01:01:43] This is literally just like wanted mask.
[01:01:45] Like unique.
[01:01:45] There's people that just like, I've noticed as people that just have their, there's a guy
[01:01:49] to just collect scarecrow walks at midnight.
[01:01:51] Like he loves the scarecrow.
[01:01:52] Yeah.
[01:01:52] So even people collect nothing but mass mutant stuff.
[01:01:55] Weird.
[01:01:59] Oh, yeah, he does.
[01:02:02] Oh, and I actually just remembered.
[01:02:05] Um, I remember back during the pandemic, I actually had a really good, uh, lot that I
[01:02:11] had found, uh, on eBay and I only got it for like 30 something bucks and it had the live
[01:02:17] on stage book in there.
[01:02:19] It had, uh, it had, I had, what else did it have?
[01:02:22] It just had like a bunch of rare books.
[01:02:25] And during that time too, is when I found like screener tapes of goosebumps and, uh,
[01:02:30] like stuff like that, like the, um, what was it?
[01:02:34] Oh, the original haunted mask screener.
[01:02:38] I found that on eBay for a very good price.
[01:02:40] Um, and like, again, it's like, I had no idea this even existed, but I was doing my searching
[01:02:48] and lo and behold, I found it on eBay.
[01:02:51] So it's like, again, you just gotta, you really gotta look cause sometimes not everything's
[01:02:57] gonna bubble to the surface either.
[01:02:58] You really gotta like dig deep sometimes in searchings, um, to find some of like the good
[01:03:05] stuff.
[01:03:05] Um, that's another piece of advice I can give.
[01:03:08] Uh, Jared, do you got any, uh, other pieces of advice to share?
[01:03:12] Yeah.
[01:03:13] I mean, I, uh, uh, so my, my strategy, I, I have a very different approach, I guess, because
[01:03:19] for one thing, I focus on the books.
[01:03:22] I know if I were to get into the merch, uh, then my strategy wouldn't really work, but
[01:03:28] basically I, I work toward just breaking even.
[01:03:31] So I don't really spend anything on these books overall.
[01:03:35] So there's no net spending.
[01:03:37] Um, I, I buy books in big lots on eBay generally, sometimes Mercari because there's this general
[01:03:46] principle when you buy things in bulk, the unit per, I'm sorry, the price per unit decreases.
[01:03:53] Okay.
[01:03:54] So the price per book is going to be lower.
[01:03:55] So a lot of these books I'm buying for like maybe two bucks per book in these big lots.
[01:04:02] And I take what I need and then I sell the rest.
[01:04:05] And since I'm selling a smaller number of books, sometimes individually, the price is
[01:04:11] going to be higher per book.
[01:04:12] So I ended up breaking even.
[01:04:14] And I, I do this repeatedly and it's actually how I found my rare books as well, because I
[01:04:21] found, I found trick or trapped in a lot one time with, uh, some other rare books, uh, some
[01:04:28] of the rare books I didn't even need.
[01:04:29] So I just grabbed the ones I needed, like trick or trapped, sold the rest, even made a
[01:04:34] little bit of money, which I could then put to collecting.
[01:04:37] Um, so that's generally what I do.
[01:04:40] And, uh, I, I don't, I don't spend 50 bucks on an individual book.
[01:04:45] Not generally.
[01:04:46] Uh, every once in a while I'll splurge.
[01:04:48] If I really can't find something and I really want it, then, then of course I'll get it.
[01:04:52] But, uh, but, but most of the time, yeah, it's just buying books in the big lots and then
[01:04:57] taking what I need, selling the rest.
[01:04:59] Uh, another piece of advice I have is, um, it just seemed to spit cause you were talking
[01:05:05] about welcome to dead house.
[01:05:08] Yeah.
[01:05:09] So that, that true first print of welcome to dead house, a couple things.
[01:05:12] One is if for the, all the collectors out there, if you're looking for that true first
[01:05:16] prints, make sure it actually is a true first print.
[01:05:19] There are tons of listings on eBay for welcome to dead house and it says true first print on
[01:05:25] it and it's not a true first print.
[01:05:27] Mm-hmm .
[01:05:28] It has to have that number one on that row of numbers, right on the copier.
[01:05:32] We all know that, but others might not.
[01:05:34] And they might get tricked into thinking it's a true first print.
[01:05:37] And I believe that the sellers may be well-meaning cause they're just going off of what other
[01:05:43] books have sold for and what they were called.
[01:05:46] And so they're calling it a true first print.
[01:05:48] They're trying to sell it for like 40, 50 bucks even, and nobody's buying it.
[01:05:52] Uh, but yeah, don't be tricked by that.
[01:05:54] The other thing is I found there was a period of time where I just really wanted one.
[01:05:59] And, uh, I ended up getting four of them because I started to realize that if I see a book,
[01:06:06] if I see welcome to dead house on eBay and it looks like it could be a true first print,
[01:06:11] it says coming soon on the back of it, right?
[01:06:15] For the next book in the series.
[01:06:16] Uh, there's no number on the spine.
[01:06:19] Um, the ISBN is on the front cover as well.
[01:06:23] So those are all clues that it's a true first print.
[01:06:25] Yep.
[01:06:26] But the thing is they don't always show a picture of the copyright page, especially if they just go for it.
[01:06:36] Don't ask them to show the copyright page.
[01:06:39] I've been burned like three, four different times by asking to see a picture of the copyright page.
[01:06:44] Because as soon as I ask, they're looking it up.
[01:06:48] They're looking at, wait, why, why does this random person want to see a picture of the copyright page?
[01:06:53] They look it up and then the, uh, uh, the listing disappears.
[01:06:57] And then it reappears later for a much higher price.
[01:07:00] It happened to me a bunch of times.
[01:07:01] There was even one time I bought it because he showed me, he finally showed me a picture of the copyright page.
[01:07:06] And I, I bought it immediately.
[01:07:08] It's like, oh, wow, this is great.
[01:07:09] It's in this big lot.
[01:07:10] I can sell the rest.
[01:07:11] I'll break even.
[01:07:12] And then, uh, he canceled the sale.
[01:07:15] And I asked him why.
[01:07:16] And he said like, oh, I'm sorry.
[01:07:18] I didn't realize how rare this book was.
[01:07:19] I was like, come on.
[01:07:20] So that's not my problem.
[01:07:21] That happened before too.
[01:07:22] There was a Facebook marketplace.
[01:07:24] They were, this guy was selling this whole stack of goosebumps books for 25 bucks.
[01:07:28] And there was like, I live in your basement in there.
[01:07:30] And a few TV presents like a pretty good, good stack for 25 bucks.
[01:07:35] So I'm like, Hey, I'll like, Hey, I'll take it.
[01:07:38] Uh, I didn't even ask anything about like the books themselves.
[01:07:41] I was just like, Hey, can I pick this up tomorrow?
[01:07:42] And he's like, yeah, sure.
[01:07:43] He's like, all right, then I'll take it.
[01:07:45] Um, and then just like 24 hours later, he's like, uh, actually I'm going to, I'm going to cancel this order.
[01:07:53] A buddy of mine told me that I could get more for these.
[01:07:56] So I'm like, well, first of all, curse him, curse that buddy who told you that because you messed up my sale.
[01:08:03] Um, and then like a week later, he puts the same lot up again for $250.
[01:08:10] And you want to know the funny thing though, is that he didn't sell it until he brought it back down to $75.
[01:08:16] Like he kept bringing it down and down because nobody wanted to buy that.
[01:08:20] That's another thing too, for sellers.
[01:08:22] Look for sellers out there.
[01:08:24] I get it.
[01:08:25] You want, you, you sometimes feel like certain things are a certain price, or you're just looking to make a good amount of money.
[01:08:31] That's understandable, but really use your head.
[01:08:35] Is somebody going to buy 10 books off you, even if they're rare for $250?
[01:08:41] Maybe if they're made of money, but not many people are.
[01:08:44] Um, so I, I plead with all the sellers out there.
[01:08:48] If any are watching or even, you know, give a damn, um, you know, just keep that in mind.
[01:08:54] Sometimes people don't want to buy things for the sort of prices that they're being put up for.
[01:08:59] Uh, even if they really want it.
[01:09:01] Yeah.
[01:09:01] They should really just do auctions.
[01:09:03] Like if you do an auction, then the market's determining the price.
[01:09:06] That's generally what I do.
[01:09:08] I don't, I don't want to be the one that's saying, all right, well, I want 200 bucks for this book.
[01:09:12] No, I don't want to do that.
[01:09:13] Rather I'd have an auction and then it's, it's, yeah, it's the market that decides how much it's going to sell for it.
[01:09:18] And that's what I prefer.
[01:09:24] I tell you, see like lots of goosebumps, they're usually auctions because nobody's really going to ever have a clear set price on how to sell certain things.
[01:09:33] Because maybe you have some, you know, harder to stuff in your life mixed with some like super common stuff that, you know, I I've seen lots where people like have more newer goosebumps stuff and maybe like one or two old ones in there.
[01:09:45] And it's like, people probably aren't buying it for all of them.
[01:09:50] They're buying it for a few of them.
[01:09:51] Um, auctions, like you said, determine the market.
[01:09:54] So people are like, okay, I'm not paying any, any past this.
[01:09:58] So I'm not going to bet it anymore.
[01:10:00] Or if they're just gonna, or they're just going to keep on going and pay, maybe you'll make like a few hundred dollars.
[01:10:05] You don't know.
[01:10:06] Um, but usually if people see a big price tag on things.
[01:10:11] Yeah.
[01:10:11] That's where it kind of gets tricky though, because you got to look at what it previously sold for.
[01:10:17] Like they'll say like the last three or four, and then kind of give you an average of what that particular item is probably worth.
[01:10:24] Um, however, some of the stuff goosebumps has doesn't seem to have the light of day very often.
[01:10:31] So it's really hard to sometimes figure out what the actual market price is.
[01:10:37] And you kind of just got to go by what you're willing to pay for it.
[01:10:42] Uh, I mean, for instance, if I saw that prototype of the Haunted mask on eBay, uh, I, I probably saw my soul to get it, but that's a whole nother thing deal with the devil.
[01:10:55] But that is literally like how it is though.
[01:10:59] Like some, some people ask a thousand dollars for something like that.
[01:11:03] Mm hmm.
[01:11:03] Will they get it?
[01:11:04] Maybe, but it's hard to tell.
[01:11:08] Mm hmm.
[01:11:08] For instance, that screener tape that yeah, you showed, you know, I have, uh, I bought one, uh, a long time ago, very cheap.
[01:11:17] I think it was like 30 or 40 bucks.
[01:11:18] Cause again, this was when nobody really wanted goosebumps, but I never looked at the tape inside.
[01:11:24] So I don't know, we got a year plus later and the tape was actually the Haunted mask too.
[01:11:29] I was like, you son of a little bee.
[01:11:30] So I was super upset.
[01:11:32] I mean, the case was obviously you can't fake that, but then I ended up getting another copy, which is in much better condition.
[01:11:39] I don't know for like a hundred bucks.
[01:11:42] Um, so I'll panned out and that one did have the right tape.
[01:11:45] However, I am seeing like, I saw a sealed one not too long ago.
[01:11:50] And the guy on Macari, it was like $900.
[01:11:54] And the last one sold was only 125 bucks sealed new.
[01:11:59] I'm like, dude, I'm like, if you will go to that price, I'll, I'll take it.
[01:12:04] He's like, Oh no, it is worth what I'm asking.
[01:12:06] I'm like, no, not according to the market.
[01:12:09] So don't pay what people are asking.
[01:12:11] He started bringing it down and he eventually did sell it.
[01:12:14] Uh, I think it went for around like $300 though.
[01:12:17] So he did get over what the market was at the time, but he held onto that for like another six or seven months before that happened.
[01:12:25] Funny you brought it down back up again.
[01:12:28] They brought it down again.
[01:12:29] So it just, again, it's a waiting.
[01:12:34] It's like, it's like pick one or the other.
[01:12:36] It's funny.
[01:12:37] You brought that up.
[01:12:38] I had it happen with this tape.
[01:12:40] Now I bought this in a three pack of screener tapes.
[01:12:43] It was this dead house and haunted mask too.
[01:12:47] Um, so haunted mask too and dead house.
[01:12:50] They are the actual tapes, but this one has the cover of werewolf, but this is actually the screener tape for haunted mask.
[01:12:57] It doesn't actually say haunted mask, but it's the one for haunted mask.
[01:13:01] And I was so disappointed.
[01:13:04] Um, luckily I got these for a good price.
[01:13:06] It wasn't breaking the bank, but it was more of the principle, uh, sort of thing.
[01:13:10] I got the sleeve for that cassette.
[01:13:12] If you need one.
[01:13:14] Oh, however, um, cause I have haunted mask too.
[01:13:18] I just don't have, you know, this right here, uh, is one of my personal favorite pieces in my collection.
[01:13:24] It's a sealed three pack of goosebumps VHS tapes.
[01:13:28] And I actually got this for 30 bucks online.
[01:13:32] Um, I think the seller had multiple of these and he might've gotten it from like a warehouse or something, but he was selling them for only 30 bucks.
[01:13:40] And I was like, is this legit?
[01:13:41] And he's like, yeah, man.
[01:13:42] And it's like, and I'm like that.
[01:13:45] I think I even asked is like, are you sure it's 30 bucks?
[01:13:48] He's like, yeah, 30 bucks, man.
[01:13:49] That's all I'm asking for.
[01:13:50] So I got this for that amount of money and it's fully sealed.
[01:13:55] And it's got a, it's even got a little goosebumps sticker on it.
[01:13:58] Three goosebumps videos, one low price and even advertised the series 2000.
[01:14:02] So it's like, that's awesome.
[01:14:03] Actually Bjorn just got one too, but his had, uh, some kind of, um, I don't know what you'd call that.
[01:14:11] Like a cardboard piece that wrapped around on the outside.
[01:14:14] I've never seen it on eBay and it wasn't on there long.
[01:14:16] Cause I wondered who got it.
[01:14:18] And then I saw Bjorn get one three and it's Tara Tau and, um, I think I saw you post that.
[01:14:26] That video piece around it, which was really, really interesting.
[01:14:31] And Bjorn, as we found out in our episode with nineties kids throwbacks, where we looked at the goosebumps website, not only was there this three pack, but there apparently is one for haunted mass terror tower and stay out of the basement.
[01:14:43] So that one's out there too.
[01:14:46] But, um, sometimes my point with that story is that sometimes there's people out there who, um, and even with like Bjorn story about the lawn gnome, sometimes there's just people out there who are looking to like get stuff and then like send them to a good home.
[01:15:01] Uh, sometimes people are not out to make like that huge money.
[01:15:05] They just get something and then they're like, here, uh, you can have this for a good price and like, you know, add it to your collection.
[01:15:12] Even like the sort of thing that families do where they're like, Oh, I heard you were collecting this.
[01:15:17] I heard you were collecting goosebumps.
[01:15:19] So I got you these books.
[01:15:20] Like, it'll just be like, I remember for my birthday one year, people were like finding out I was liking goosebumps books and I was young, but, uh, there are like here.
[01:15:29] I got you some goosebumps books and they have like a little bag, uh, full of like some goosebumps books they found at a shop.
[01:15:36] So it's like, sometimes your family and friends help you with the collecting.
[01:15:39] Has there ever been an instance like that for you guys?
[01:15:42] Yeah.
[01:15:43] I remember with the Dutch books that I have, um, I, they just randomly showed up on, um, on eBay.
[01:15:49] I think there were like eight or nine books and I started like messaging them.
[01:15:54] And then they told me that they're actually a Dutch family living here in Florida.
[01:15:58] And, um, they just wanted to like, you know, send it to a good home.
[01:16:03] Um, so then we just started negotiating and I think it was in the end, it was like each book ended up being like 10 bucks, something like that.
[01:16:11] And I've seen them now for like 30, 40 plus shipping.
[01:16:15] Shipping is like, I don't know, depending where you are, 30, $40 in addition to what it's worth.
[01:16:20] So I'm like, wow.
[01:16:22] But, um, yeah, they, sometimes that shows up, um, with the Gareth Stevens book.
[01:16:28] Um, I found another lot, I think there were seven or eight books and they sold it to me.
[01:16:35] Like I purchased it for like 90 or a hundred bucks.
[01:16:38] Cause I know they're worth more.
[01:16:40] And that was like almost a complete collection.
[01:16:43] And then unfortunately, like a few hours later, they canceled the order and never responded to my messages.
[01:16:48] It just gave me the refund.
[01:16:50] I was like, that sucks.
[01:16:51] I hate.
[01:16:52] Um, for, uh, that is another thing to bring up for those of you who are, uh, the Gareth Stevens, uh, hardcover goosebumps books.
[01:17:01] That's these ones.
[01:17:02] And I would say these are very hard to find.
[01:17:05] Um, funny enough, they were actually printed in my home, uh, County of Milwaukee, which I found out that was pretty interesting, but these are pretty hard to find versions.
[01:17:15] There's only 10 of them, the first 10 books.
[01:17:19] And, uh, yeah, if you ever find one of these, there are hard covers of the other books, but they were more meant for like libraries and stuff like that.
[01:17:28] They're not super hard to find.
[01:17:30] I mean, definitely get them.
[01:17:31] If you can, I got one of my own for a cuckoo clock of doom because it's the same one that I got when I first read that book way back in second grade.
[01:17:41] Um, if you want to learn more about that, watch our episode on first goosebumps experiences.
[01:17:46] I go into a little more detail about that, but yeah, these books definitely, if you find these out in the wild, definitely get them.
[01:17:53] I'm missing, uh, five, five almost there.
[01:17:56] Almost there.
[01:17:57] Yep.
[01:17:57] I got one.
[01:17:58] Number five or you're, you're missing five books.
[01:18:02] Five.
[01:18:03] I won't welcome to dead house.
[01:18:04] I have six.
[01:18:05] So I have, I'm missing two, three, five and wait, hold on one, four, six, seven.
[01:18:14] I think I have like four duplicates of those.
[01:18:18] Uh, but I think it's only like, Oh yeah.
[01:18:21] Two, three, five, eight.
[01:18:22] That's what I'm missing.
[01:18:23] I was thinking, I forgot I said six.
[01:18:26] Another advice is, um, on Amazon.
[01:18:28] I found the one I sent you Bjorn.
[01:18:31] I found it for $15 on Amazon.
[01:18:34] Oh, um, night of the living dummy.
[01:18:38] So that's, that's how I ended up having an extra one.
[01:18:41] But, um, welcome to dead house.
[01:18:43] I found it for 20 bucks, that version on Amazon.
[01:18:46] But when I got it, it was like, it had a lot of water damage and I just returned.
[01:18:50] Cause it was just really messed up.
[01:18:52] Like, ah, this was actually, I found this at half price books and I got it for $10.
[01:18:57] This and, uh, night of the living dummy.
[01:19:00] So I found both of these for, got them for 20 bucks for both of them.
[01:19:04] If anyone finds welcome to dead house, just, just let me know.
[01:19:07] I'll, I'm sure I've something to trade you.
[01:19:09] Like, well, it's so funny because, um, I remember you and I were in talks of like,
[01:19:15] if I ever find one of these living dummy ones, I'll send it to you.
[01:19:17] And I found a second one only after somebody already sent you.
[01:19:23] Just sent me it.
[01:19:25] Who was that?
[01:19:27] I think.
[01:19:29] What was his name?
[01:19:30] Well, like the best advice I can give to any goosebumps collector.
[01:19:35] Now that's starting best advice, get yourself a well-paid job.
[01:19:41] Yes.
[01:19:42] Get some money so you can buy the cool stuff when it pops up.
[01:19:47] And, and, and yeah.
[01:19:48] And to be fair, be consistent.
[01:19:50] Don't think, Oh, I'm not finding anything and give up.
[01:19:53] No check every day.
[01:19:54] I check eBay, Amazon, Macari morning and night.
[01:19:59] Sometimes on my lunch break at work, I will check every day and I will go to the same thrift stores,
[01:20:04] same bookstores, same collectible stores every week.
[01:20:06] Persistence is key.
[01:20:08] Persistence is the number one key because there have been many times, as I said, one in seven, one in seven times.
[01:20:16] I go to half price books.
[01:20:17] I find nothing.
[01:20:18] There's that one time where I have just a huge haul.
[01:20:22] And like, no matter how many times you go somewhere or look online and you're just like, Oh, I can't God, I can't find anything.
[01:20:27] Don't give up because you are going to find something at some point.
[01:20:31] And sometimes it could be like, you could, who knows, it could be something super, super rare.
[01:20:38] And you come across at first and you're the one who gets your hands on it.
[01:20:41] Like that's persistence.
[01:20:44] And another thing you can do, get involved.
[01:20:47] I mean, if you, if you join in the community, like I was just about to say, join a goosebump.
[01:20:53] Like I've helped multiple people.
[01:20:56] Elvis has helped me before.
[01:20:57] Bjorn's helped me before.
[01:20:58] Uh, I can't say Isaiah ever has.
[01:21:00] He's kind of a bad friend, but it is what it is.
[01:21:02] I sent you like 10 first prints.
[01:21:04] Shut up.
[01:21:08] Um, he's fine.
[01:21:11] Yes.
[01:21:11] But, uh, I mean, like, join a good on here from the house of mass.
[01:21:15] I've helped him get something from his like childhood.
[01:21:18] He really wanted, uh, just through help from another community member.
[01:21:21] I was like, yeah, I'm kind of looking for this for somebody.
[01:21:24] And there's like, Oh, well, you know what?
[01:21:25] Here it is here.
[01:21:26] I found it on this and I missed it.
[01:21:28] Even though I have like alerts set up through eBay and a couple other places.
[01:21:32] Like I don't always get them for some reason.
[01:21:34] I don't know why that is.
[01:21:36] Um, I sometimes have to turn the notification off and back on again.
[01:21:39] So if that's happening to you, just do that.
[01:21:41] Sometimes that works.
[01:21:43] Something you can do is join a community group, join a goosebumps group,
[01:21:47] like even a Facebook group.
[01:21:48] Um, the one I can definitely recommend because we're a part of it is, uh,
[01:21:53] the goosebumps ultimate fan club.
[01:21:55] I think that's what it's called.
[01:21:57] Um, that place on Facebook is a, is it me and Nick and, uh, are all of us on there?
[01:22:03] Bjorn you're on there too, right?
[01:22:05] Bjorn's on there.
[01:22:06] So we're all, we're all on there.
[01:22:07] I post there a lot.
[01:22:08] Yeah.
[01:22:08] Um, so that's a great place, uh, for people to share what they found, but also people
[01:22:14] usually will put listings up on there.
[01:22:16] They'll be like, Hey, I'm selling, uh, these books.
[01:22:19] Like if you want them, like message me, uh, on Instagram too.
[01:22:24] Like, you know, there's always people being like, Hey, I have listings up.
[01:22:27] Uh, you know, for this book, like this book is on my shop.
[01:22:31] Another person, uh, uh, goosebumps guru has his own, uh, goosebumps shop where he's always
[01:22:37] putting up like super rare books and merchandise and whatnot.
[01:22:41] And how he finds some of the stuff he does.
[01:22:44] I have no idea, but I'm telling you what, like it baffles me.
[01:22:48] Sometimes I'm like, what the hell did you get it?
[01:22:51] It would have been bought back in the day.
[01:22:53] Like when I was finding stuff too, it would have been bought at a time when it was on eBay.
[01:22:57] No one cared.
[01:22:57] No one, no one was searching for goosebumps.
[01:22:59] Apart from a very small minority of people.
[01:23:04] Well, he had another box, another 2000 fan club box.
[01:23:08] I remember a few months ago.
[01:23:10] Um, I saw it like in the morning, I went to work, got to work, made some coffee, went back, sold.
[01:23:19] That's another really good piece of advice is just to jump on those things when they're available.
[01:23:23] Act fast.
[01:23:24] And, and especially like thrift books.
[01:23:26] So I get alerts from thrift books sometimes.
[01:23:29] Uh, and like, you have to be so fast, so fast buying those books.
[01:23:34] If it's a good deal, just click, click, click until you buy it.
[01:23:38] And just, yeah.
[01:23:39] Before somebody else.
[01:23:40] Sorry too.
[01:23:40] I've seen, I don't see that go for like one or two hours and then they're already gone.
[01:23:45] Like, trust me, never underestimate how many people are taking an, are keeping an eye on this stuff.
[01:23:51] If you see something and it's available, buy it.
[01:23:54] Like don't sleep on it.
[01:23:55] Jump on it.
[01:23:56] Um, especially if it's a good price though.
[01:23:59] Don't, don't stretch your money.
[01:24:00] That's not what we're saying.
[01:24:01] It's like beyond your budget.
[01:24:04] But if you see it and you have money, definitely snag it ASAP.
[01:24:09] If you have the budget and you find a ridiculously good deal on something, do not wait because more than likely someone else is going to pounce on that.
[01:24:17] Uh, and then you, you might be regretting it.
[01:24:21] Um, well paid.
[01:24:22] That's why I say like the goosebumps community is really great.
[01:24:24] If you, if you guys who are listening, aren't a part of the Facebook group, let me tell you like, so I have some stuff up for sale right now and just kind of clearing out and making room for new stuff that'll come in eventually stuff like that.
[01:24:36] Cause I have limited space, um, in my house for stuff and I'm just kind of getting over.
[01:24:42] I'm just kidding.
[01:24:43] I got too much crap.
[01:24:44] So basically if somebody wanted to a goosebumps coffin towel that I got from creepsville, like forever ago, um, uh, it's one I didn't put a price on.
[01:24:52] I said, just make an offer a reasonable one.
[01:24:55] Um, they're like, Oh, would you take 75 or a hundred?
[01:24:57] I'm like, dude, that's way too much for that towel.
[01:25:00] I mean, come on.
[01:25:01] I mean, they don't make it anymore.
[01:25:03] Of course.
[01:25:04] And then there were a lot of goosebumps stuff.
[01:25:05] I was like, but you know, he's buying something else for me.
[01:25:08] I was like, it's only worth like maybe 40 bucks, like tops 40, 50 bucks.
[01:25:13] Um, so, uh, Elvis, you'll come across some good people in there though.
[01:25:18] Yeah.
[01:25:19] Um, so I think it was last week.
[01:25:21] I haven't shown it to, I have a bunch of videos of unboxing that are saved up and I had an issue with my previous, um, Instagram page.
[01:25:30] Um, so I just had to like do everything again.
[01:25:33] Yeah.
[01:25:33] Found this, um, you know how there's this program for the goosebumps live on stage, right?
[01:25:40] Mm-hmm.
[01:25:41] I found program for goosebumps alive.
[01:25:44] Um, cool.
[01:25:46] It was like, I think $13.
[01:25:51] Plus shipping.
[01:25:52] It came from the UK, um, which was where the show was.
[01:25:57] Right.
[01:25:57] And I'm, I'm still doing some research.
[01:26:00] I'm not sure if the producer actually was the one that wrote some information, like a dedication in the book, but it's, it's like, I've never seen it before.
[01:26:08] I asked him like Tim Jacobus.
[01:26:10] I was like, Hey, do you know anything about this?
[01:26:13] And he's like, Oh yeah, that's the cover I made for the goosebumps alive book.
[01:26:16] I'm like, and he's like, it's very rare.
[01:26:19] I'm like, it is.
[01:26:20] I've never seen it like online, anybody selling it.
[01:26:23] But I did come across on YouTube while I was doing some research.
[01:26:28] There's this girl, um, fan girl, something, I forgot her name.
[01:26:32] Um, but she actually went to the show and she had like a whole review of what it was, how many books they made.
[01:26:39] There was like posters and stuff made also for the show.
[01:26:42] And the show lasted like two or three months, I believe.
[01:26:44] Right.
[01:26:44] Which makes it even more, I guess, complicated to find things about that specific show.
[01:26:50] The program and the, um, say cheese and die story in it.
[01:26:56] So it's like one little book.
[01:26:57] It's basically the same size of a goosebumps book.
[01:27:00] Um, but it comes with all of that kind of stuff.
[01:27:04] So that took me to find the CD, uh, the band that actually created the soundtrack of that too.
[01:27:12] The tiger lilies.
[01:27:13] Yeah.
[01:27:14] It's like a long one, but it's in, I think you, you are, Leonard, Ireland or something like that.
[01:27:20] They're selling it.
[01:27:20] And they're still around for like $15 too.
[01:27:23] So if you guys are like into that kind of stuff or have like a little like collection from that show, you know, that it's still around.
[01:27:32] You can still find it.
[01:27:34] Oh, and it also another piece of advice, uh, get to know the people who work on goosebumps stuff because you never know when they'll send you some, some cool stuff too.
[01:27:42] In fact, uh, I'd be remiss if I didn't bring this up just today, the day that we're recording this.
[01:27:47] Uh, Jared, you received a, I mean, you both have received drawings from the goosebumps cover artists, but you've received a very special one today from Craig white.
[01:27:55] The, the, uh, artists on give yourself goosebumps who basically drew slappy for the very first time.
[01:28:01] Yeah.
[01:28:02] That is really rare piece that you now got in your possession.
[01:28:06] It was, yeah, it was, it was at my request.
[01:28:07] I was just so I, I, he was, I started, I noticed that he started to do like mashups of his covers with other stuff or like different versions of his covers.
[01:28:17] So I figured like, I might as well just ask him to draw slappy.
[01:28:20] Cause I, I just think that would be so cool to get his version of slappy and it looks really good.
[01:28:24] I, I'm so happy.
[01:28:26] I wanted to mention too.
[01:28:27] Um, cause yeah, you mentioned like just contacting some of these people who are actually doing this.
[01:28:31] I'm actually involved in the making of goosebumps stuff because I actually, there was somebody on, on the goosebumps ultimate fan club page.
[01:28:40] And also on Instagram who shared a, uh, motor city comic con program, like a booklet that had Tim Jacobus's art on it.
[01:28:50] It was a say cheese and die.
[01:28:52] And it was so cool.
[01:28:53] I really wanted it.
[01:28:54] And I asked this guy, like, did you grab any extras?
[01:28:55] I'm sure there were tons there and he didn't, he only grabbed the one.
[01:28:58] And then I was looking online.
[01:29:00] I was like, well, is there anybody selling them yet?
[01:29:01] Where can I find them?
[01:29:02] And then I eventually just decided, do you know what?
[01:29:04] I'm just going to ask Tim.
[01:29:06] I'm just going to email Tim.
[01:29:07] See if he, see if he got any extra and he did.
[01:29:11] And he sent me one.
[01:29:12] So now I have it, but yeah, so just, and Tim Jacobus, I mean, yeah.
[01:29:15] So just, uh, always just feel free to, to message these people.
[01:29:19] Tim Jacobus too.
[01:29:19] He's, he's very approachable through email.
[01:29:22] He answers all emails.
[01:29:24] They're very, uh, short Kurt responses, but yeah, it says response.
[01:29:28] Yeah.
[01:29:29] I get it.
[01:29:31] Yeah.
[01:29:31] It's how he is.
[01:29:32] And, uh, but he's very, very, very friendly and approachable.
[01:29:36] I talked to him on the phone once.
[01:29:37] Yeah.
[01:29:37] Just such a nice guy, but yeah, I'm sure he'd answer any questions you have too.
[01:29:41] And one thing I got to bring up is just that, and I don't know, maybe it's because we've
[01:29:46] done this for your podcast, but, uh, a lot of these people are, who have been involved
[01:29:50] with goosebumps are starting to get back in goosebumps.
[01:29:52] Craig white and Tim Jacobus, uh, Craig white, especially is really embracing goosebumps lately.
[01:29:58] Um, and he's doing commissions for goosebumps are like, you know, that don't be afraid to
[01:30:04] reach out to these people because, um, not only are they going to be, not only they're
[01:30:09] super friendly people, but I feel like they'd be more than happy to hook you up with maybe
[01:30:13] a commission or a drawing of course for, for pay.
[01:30:17] Um, but, uh, yeah, definitely.
[01:30:19] If you, if you get in contact with them, super nice people and I'm sure they'd be willing
[01:30:24] to hook you up somehow.
[01:30:25] And again, the goosebumps community is large and vast, and there's a lot of people willing
[01:30:30] to help you out.
[01:30:31] Uh, there was one time shout out to my friend, uh, I was Eric over on Instagram.
[01:30:35] We did an awesome trade a few months ago where I gave him some of the original series books
[01:30:41] that he was missing.
[01:30:43] And in return, he gave me revenge of the law gnomes TV presents.
[01:30:46] So I essentially did not have to pay a dime.
[01:30:49] I mean, if you don't include the shipping, um, to get one of the rarest and most valuable
[01:30:55] goosebumps books in existence, people are out there.
[01:30:58] They'll help you.
[01:30:59] Um, never be afraid to reach out to somebody, uh, for, you know, just tell them to build your
[01:31:04] collection.
[01:31:05] Uh, especially people like us who have like shelves of original series.
[01:31:09] Like just let us know, like maybe we can make something work and, uh, we can help you guys,
[01:31:14] uh, you know, get to where you need to be.
[01:31:16] And one more thing I'll bring up, uh, before we, uh, end things off for the night.
[01:31:21] Um, there's another thing to look out for when you're collecting, uh, Indian reprints.
[01:31:27] Uh, make sure you check your books when you find rare books, because, and I say the Indian
[01:31:33] ones in particular, because those books are pretty one-to-one with the American copies.
[01:31:39] Um, but a lot of them are very recently printed and they're not the same value.
[01:31:43] I made a whole Instagram reel about this over on our, uh, Instagram page, the Goosebumps crew.
[01:31:48] Um, I go into more detail on that, but that's another thing to look out is just make sure that
[01:31:53] they are, uh, check the copyright page, you know, check the copyright page.
[01:31:57] That is a way that you will know for sure.
[01:32:00] Um, how much these things are worth.
[01:32:02] But, uh, before we end off the evening, I guess, uh, Jared Elvis, do you guys got any,
[01:32:07] uh, final words or pieces of advice to leave the audience with?
[01:32:12] Jared, you can go.
[01:32:13] Oh yeah.
[01:32:14] I, for me, like, uh, finding things when you're out in the wild thrifting is, is the best feeling,
[01:32:20] but I hardly ever find them out in the wild anymore.
[01:32:24] I know the situation's the same with you guys, there's just so many resellers.
[01:32:27] So I I've really embraced buying things online.
[01:32:30] And for me, the hunt is very similar.
[01:32:33] So I'm scrolling, I'm hunting, you know, looking for just the right books in those lots to see if I can get a rare book that I need, sell the rest, as long as the whole lot selling for a good price.
[01:32:43] And, uh, and the feelings very much the same when, when I actually do find something.
[01:32:47] So I'll say, yeah, just if you try that method, I think it can work out for you, but you have to really train yourself to recognize what's going to be a great price for this lot in terms of, okay, well, can I sell the rest of them and break even or make a little more?
[01:33:01] And even if you don't break even, you're still getting a very rare book at an extraordinarily discounted price by selling the rest of the books in that lot.
[01:33:09] So it's, it's a really great strategy.
[01:33:11] It's, it's worked for me.
[01:33:12] You can also look at it at a face value.
[01:33:14] It's like, yeah, it's one, you're basically getting one book and maybe the price is a little bigger, but think about the value amongst all the other books.
[01:33:22] Uh, like say you're spending 50 bucks for a lot of 10 books and you only want one.
[01:33:27] You're still getting that book for five bucks.
[01:33:30] So I'll give you an example too.
[01:33:32] Cause I, I was missing goosebumps TV presents attack of the jack-o'-lanterns.
[01:33:37] It was the last one that I needed.
[01:33:38] And I was looking for just the right lot to the, you know, I could buy it, buy the whole thing and sell the rest.
[01:33:44] And I eventually found one and it was all of the goosebumps TV presents all of them, even the, all the rarest ones too.
[01:33:52] And it was selling for a lot.
[01:33:53] It was selling for 400 bucks.
[01:33:55] So I had to buy, so I bought all of them.
[01:33:58] I took attack of the jack-o'-lanterns and then I sold the rest and broke even because, you know, even so like revenge of the lawn gnomes by itself, along with calling all creeps by itself.
[01:34:09] I was still able to sell the rest and break even, but I had to put up all this money ahead of time and then sell it before my credit card bill was.
[01:34:18] Yeah.
[01:34:18] It worked out though.
[01:34:19] So it was all good.
[01:34:20] Yeah.
[01:34:21] I hope one day I can find the rest of those books.
[01:34:23] Cause I got revenge of the lawn gnomes, but I don't feel like I'm going to be very, very lucky with all that.
[01:34:30] I say, so, um, sorry.
[01:34:32] Um, we just got a puppy here.
[01:34:35] So the puppy was down here.
[01:34:36] I saw it.
[01:34:37] I saw it.
[01:34:38] What kind of puppy is it?
[01:34:39] Uh, he's a golden doodle.
[01:34:40] It's did you give it a, did you give it a goosebumps name?
[01:34:43] Yeah.
[01:34:44] We're trying to change the name, but if you're interested, Larry, um, presents.
[01:34:50] No, not Fifi.
[01:34:51] Larry, Larry presents.
[01:34:52] I got these duplicates.
[01:34:55] Um, I got zoom in there to see which ones.
[01:34:57] Yeah.
[01:34:58] Yeah.
[01:34:59] Yeah.
[01:35:00] I'll send you guys a picture.
[01:35:01] I think I posted this a while ago on Instagram.
[01:35:03] I still have them.
[01:35:05] Um, but if you're interested, you know, we could, I don't know, talk about it.
[01:35:10] Send to, um, make a deal.
[01:35:14] Um, make a deal.
[01:35:16] I guess one, sorry about that.
[01:35:18] Um, I guess an advice would be for me, focus and patience.
[01:35:23] Um, I actually found that in a lot.
[01:35:26] I just needed the same case as Jared.
[01:35:28] I only needed, um, uh, the same book actually attack of the jack-o'-lanterns.
[01:35:34] And I, and it was like 200 something.
[01:35:37] Um, so he sold it to me and I was, I was, I'll just sell the rest, but I just left them
[01:35:41] there cause they're like really good quality.
[01:35:43] So I'm like, I think I'll keep them for a while, but I just left them there.
[01:35:46] But in the end I bought several lots.
[01:35:49] And in one of those lots, there was another attack of a jack-o'-lanterns and I had just
[01:35:54] bought one from goosebumps guru, which was a hard carver version of that.
[01:35:59] So now we have those.
[01:36:01] So I'm like, this reminds me of Bjorn when he has like four or five copies, I think
[01:36:06] of, um,
[01:36:06] the wall gnomes.
[01:36:08] Yeah.
[01:36:10] Yeah.
[01:36:10] Yeah.
[01:36:11] If you're patient and focused, you know, you can find what you're looking for.
[01:36:15] Um, and I'll give you an example.
[01:36:18] I, I found two of the series two collectibles in a lot.
[01:36:23] And it was that it was, uh, the postcard book, the first one from goosebumps, the curly, you
[01:36:31] know, the big head that has like a little hands, like rubber hands and a few other items
[01:36:35] for like a hundred bucks.
[01:36:37] The person that had them had no idea of the value of attack of a mutant and a executioner.
[01:36:43] So I was like, Oh, I took it quickly.
[01:36:48] Mm hmm.
[01:36:48] So now I could say I have four out of the six who are loose to earn in box.
[01:36:55] So, but scarecrow and, uh, I'm missing scarecrow.
[01:37:00] And, uh, what is the other one?
[01:37:03] The other man, maybe.
[01:37:04] Yeah.
[01:37:06] Yeah.
[01:37:06] Those, which are around the, the, the, the bubble, the snowman is around, but they're just
[01:37:11] asking a lot of money for that one.
[01:37:13] So yeah, way too much.
[01:37:15] Yep.
[01:37:15] It's per that's that persistence again.
[01:37:17] And, uh, just, you know, never give up.
[01:37:19] You're, you're, you're always, you're going to hit a lot of road bumps, but if you keep
[01:37:23] at it, you will find what you're looking for eventually.
[01:37:26] So it's just, you know, you know, keeping at it, don't give up.
[01:37:30] And, uh, definitely again, once again, uh, I was just going to say, you know, that was
[01:37:34] a clear example right there of, you know, looking out for other folks in the goosebumps
[01:37:38] community.
[01:37:39] Um, hell even, uh, you know, me Bjorn and Nick, we, you know, we're always doing trades
[01:37:44] and exchanges and stuff like that, or we find something and we're like, Hey, I'll send it
[01:37:48] to you.
[01:37:49] Uh, it's just that camaraderie in the goosebumps community.
[01:37:52] That's going to help you on stuff right here.
[01:37:54] Yeah.
[01:37:55] So it's, uh, there's just gonna, there's a sense of camaraderie.
[01:38:00] And, uh, the best way to start your collection is to just be persistent, keep a good eye out,
[01:38:05] keep focused, and, uh, maybe make a friend or two in the goosebumps community.
[01:38:09] Uh, maybe even one to, you know, have more than enough of what you're looking for.
[01:38:14] Maybe they'll be nice.
[01:38:16] But, um, yeah.
[01:38:17] And I mean, we scratched the surface barely of like talking about collections and stuff
[01:38:23] like that.
[01:38:23] And if any of you at the audience want to hear us, uh, talk about this topic more in
[01:38:27] the future, uh, leave it in the comments below.
[01:38:29] We, we'd be happy to talk more about this, uh, and give some more advice, share some more
[01:38:34] experiences in the future.
[01:38:35] Um, because you know, we're, we're hardcore goosebumps collectors and we have many more
[01:38:40] stories to, to tell, but, uh, for now that is going to do it for tonight's episode of the
[01:38:45] Goosebumps crew podcast.
[01:38:46] I want to give super special thanks, uh, to Jared and Elvis, 90 kids library and goose,

[01:39:29] Hmm.
[01:39:31] And on Instagram, um, you can find me as nostalgic goosebumps.
