Every week we have a brand new episode talking about everything Goosebumps, whether it be the books, TV shows, movies, video games, merchandise, whatever it is. If it has Goosebumps in the name, we're going to talk about Goosebumps so much that the word Goosebumps is going to sound foreign to you, because it's just going to be said so many times. So with all that said, if you end up liking today's episode, make sure you have a like and comment. If you're watching us on YouTube, subscribe to our YouTube channels and hit that bell notification to get updates
[00:02:07] when new episodes go up every Wednesday at 12 noon central, 1 p.m. Eastern. If you're just dying to get those episodes early, however, you can catch them over on our audio platforms. We're available on platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, and iHeart Radio, or wherever you get your podcasts. Those episodes go up a day early, so you can catch them over there. And of course, you can follow the Goosebumps crew on social media. We're available on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook. You can also follow Bjorn and Nick at Goosebumps,

Join the Goosebumps crew today, become a crew member, and we thank you in advance, as always, for your support. Also welcoming back our good buddy Elvis, aka Nostalgia Goosebumps, over on Instagram. Elvis, always a pleasure to have you on here, man. Thank you for inviting me. Absolutely. And this week here on the Goosebumps crew podcast. So, if you guys have watched the podcast before,
[00:03:06] you know that we've, in the past, delved into international Goosebumps releases. Basically, as popular as Goosebumps was here in the United States, it was popular all around the world. It was being, you know, broadcast on TV. The books were coming out worldwide, like 400 million copies worldwide at this point. So, it's a best-selling book series all across the globe. But sometimes, when it went to another country,
[00:03:36] it didn't always look the same. So, maybe somehow the framing of the front of the cover would be different, or it would be translated into a different language. Or, as we're going to have a look at today, sometimes the covers would be different. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Now, as I said, we've talked about this a little bit before in our episode covering the evolution of the Goosebumps monsters. We got to see how some artists overseas had drawn some of the classic Goosebumps monsters.
[00:04:05] But there are still many, many others that we did not get to see in that episode. So, today we're going to take a stroll into the world of international Goosebumps releases. And there's quite a few. So, we're going to go over to our tried and true place for Goosebumps knowledge, and that is the Goosebumps wiki to check them out. Alright, starting here at the Goosebumps wiki, we have, starting off with the UK covers. Now, as far as I'm concerned,
[00:04:33] these are the ones that, in terms of international releases, that I personally recognize the most. They're ones I would always see, you know, searching up Goosebumps on the internet back then. You would see the Jacobus covers, and then you would see the UK releases. And many of these covers, I do have to admit, are pretty silly. So, here we're starting off with Welcome to Deadhouse. Pretty standard skull and a few gravestones. For the point, though, in the book, remember,
[00:05:02] it talks about the skull being smacked against the tombstone. You got a tombstone. You got a skull. So, in a way, it's very simple. Obviously, it gives nothing compared to Tim's art, but it kind of is to the point, I guess, of that particular scene. Kind of like what you said, Elvis, earlier, about how, like, they'll take, like, one little sentence from the book and they'll make a bubble based on that. That's kind of what this is, in a way.
[00:05:31] But then you got all the bubbles, of course. I was going to say, these covers rely heavily on bubbly textures and definitely swirling. It seems like a lot of these characters were swirling in the bubbles. So, this one's pretty good, I would say. It's pretty decent. Next up, we have Say Cheese and Die because some of these international releases were not in the exact order as the American ones. So, here we have...
[00:06:00] Yeah, that's cool. The one photo actually looks like Tim's. Yeah, the one on the very bottom right has a very similar look to one of the skeletons on the art. But there's actually multiple. You can see, you know, it looks like somebody falling and then you can see a crashed car, which also is a scene in the book. So, you know, you can definitely see there that they are taking inspiration. Now... I just hate that they took, like,
[00:06:29] the cheese literally. Because this whole bubble page just looks like liquid cheese. It just looks like Velveeta cheese, yeah. Then we have probably one of the goofiest ones we're going to see tonight. And that's the Stay Out of the Basement cover. Which I do happen to have right here. It's hilarious. Oh, I gave you that one, didn't I? I gave you that one. So, I got a few of these courtesy of Bjorn. And this is the ones I insisted I have
[00:06:59] because of exclusively the cover art. I don't find it scary. It's like, the person who is, like, drawing this was watching Mr. Bean. Yeah, it does look very Mr. Bean. Or even... That's where that's a Mr. Bean expression. Or even, like, Pee-wee Herman. Like, it almost kind of looks like Pee-wee Herman's face. I remember... This is not scary in the least, me personally. And I... But I actually remember... I think I met somebody who said they saw this cover and he gave them nightmares
[00:07:28] because it just looks like a head in some cabbage. Maybe in the UK, like... But the thing is, you know, I knew a few people in the UK that grew up with Goosebumps and they said these covers are the nostalgic ones to them. So, it's like... This is... I mean, realistically, but... Well, that's the thing. This looks like... This reminds me of the... What was it? In the 80s? The Cabbage Patch Kids or something like that? Cabbage Patch Kids. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. It reminds me of that. I'm looking at it, I'm like... It reminds me of something, but I don't know what it was and I think that's what it is.
[00:07:58] It looks like it's coming out of a Cabbage Patch, so... Yeah. No, it's... It's like the green bubbles in the background. That is the thing, though. I'm glad you brought that up because, you know, many places are familiar with the Jacobus art, but some places, you know, if you grew up in the UK, you're probably... This is what you remember. This is what you remember the most as opposed to many of the Jacobus arts. So, it's always just interesting to think about, like, what if you didn't grow up... I'm so sorry for that.
[00:08:28] Yeah, you grew up with this. I'm sorry for that. You grew up with this rather than Jacobus art. Next up, we got Curse of the Mummy's Tomb. So, again, you just have, like, a character that looks like they're being engulfed by the sludge in the back. Bob. Yeah. Bob the A. It's literal bumps. A crossover book. And then, here we got Monster Blood. Another one that we... See, this one I actually, like... I don't know why it's a pumpkin pail, but I love it.
[00:08:57] Yeah, I like the effect of the Monster Blood. It looks very chunky, bubbly, almost. Like, it just kind of looks interesting. While you've got that one up, I'll show you the good. Yeah, the one that Bjorn has, that one, that covers better. This is the three-in-one. So, this has actually got a slimy front. Ooh, that's kind of cool. All three, has all three Monster Bloods in there. So, it's almost like their collection one that they brought out. This lady special. It's one of my, it's one of the more
[00:09:27] favorite ones from the UK. I like that one. Yeah, it was pretty good. Now, I will say, did you guys happen to see, I know this episode will come out later, but Maddie shared her cover for the Monster Blood graphic novel. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I love it. I don't know if I saw that or not. It was good. I have not seen it yet. Oh, you gotta see it. We gotta show you. Yeah, especially the skeleton like at the end. I love that. I love that there's skeletons coming out of it. Like, it just looks,
[00:09:56] oh man, I'm so stoked for that. At the end of this video, just put it up, show the people. Well, I'll probably put it up right here, just on the screen. But, so here we have Let's Get Invisible and I just, this face. It's like Jerry Seinfeld. Oh, wait. What? The hands are coming in. What? These mirrors. They make you feel invisible. Those hands aren't that person's hands. That's like the person coming out of it.
[00:10:26] That's the evil reflection of the person coming out. It does look weird though. It's like he's kind of like, ooh. So weird. Who are these people and why are they in mirrors? All right, here we got Night of the Living Dummy. Now, I don't know if this is supposed to be, I'm assuming this is their version of Slappy. Compared to Tim, that's, no. That has nothing on the original Book 7. Nothing. Would that maybe be Mr. Wood for them?
[00:10:55] It's got the red hair. It's got the red hair, but it's also got the suit. So it's like, it's almost like a combination of the two. Do you remember in the book, the original book, it said that he was basically Slappy's twin, just red hair. Like they look, he was wearing like a plaid shirt. Like he had more casual clothes on, but I guess, I guess you couldn't, I, I kind of interpret it as Mr. Wood. It would be personally fitting, but the, not really a scary
[00:11:25] looking dummy. They have the winking, but honestly, the winking just kind of looks The winking doesn't help it. No, it doesn't. It just looks silly. The winking doesn't help the scare factor. Does it say what year these books came out? Because I know it came out here like 92 in the States. Then these versions, did they come out like 93, 94? I think so. These, these seem like these were coming out around the same time as the original books for maybe like
[00:11:53] a month or two after. It's easier too because they can just repackage them. They don't have to translate or anything. Translations take longer. Well, to give you an example, the Monster Blood collection one came out in 95 and this is actually a first print too to number one. 95, this book came out. But I'm assuming by that point, Monster Blood 3 was already out in the States too. So, probably wasn't that soon after. Here we got
[00:12:23] Girl Cried Monster. Now, there is no monster, but there is a girl. I do like the books though, sort of amongst the bubbles. I like that they added that, like the library. Yeah, I like the books kind of coming out of the goop. Yeah. That's one of the slightly more decent ones that I like from the UK. Well, here's Welcome to Camp Nightmare. kind of look like eyeballs, which is pretty neat. Oh God, that's terrible. I'm sorry. I don't know if they're
[00:12:52] intended to look that way, but this looks like Bill and Ted. It does look like Bill and Ted. I know. Excellent. It's like, excellent. I wasn't going to this book thinking I'm reading, you know, Welcome to Camp Nightmare. I would definitely be getting more Bill and Ted or, what's that surfer movie he did? Was it Point Break? Yeah, I don't know. Is it Patrick Swayze or was it the other guy? It was Swayze. It was Swayze,
[00:13:22] I believe. Yeah, it might have been Patrick Swayze. That's what this makes me think of. Well, I'm just like. Definitely more of an 80s, 90s surfer vibe. I know they're trying to do the scene where they're supposed to be drowning, but they just don't look scared at all. They just, they're doing happy. They do look happy, don't they? Now, unless they're trying to act like in Night of the Living Demi 3, then I guess I could give them credit there for trying to be scared.
[00:13:52] I have ghosts next door. Now, I actually don't think this one's that bad. I actually kind of like the sort of fire effect around her. It does look sort of otherworldly in a sense, and I think it adds to the, albeit possibly spoiling it. So, yeah, that's why we don't see it very often. So, here is Haunted Man. Oh, there's your goblin mask! From the, from the new show!
[00:14:22] Oh, just make you, no, this actually looks better than the show, and that says something. You know what it looks like? It always looks like she's, like, scratching by her eye. Like, she's just kind of like... It makes me think of the movie Liar Liar when he's like, the claw! It's the claw! That's what she's doing. Yeah, you're scared of the claw! That's what she's doing. You're scared of the claw! Oh my god. The claw's gonna get ya! You know what I would've added
[00:14:52] to this cover? I would've actually scared kids on Halloween night. I would've added, like, a costume coming out of the, like, of the goop somewhere. Like, I would've added a few more Halloween-y things around. Yeah, they should have, for sure. Like, I just don't understand the... It's like they just wanted limited space. Like, they didn't want to use the whole cover. And I get that. I mean, you know, because like, when we talked to Mark Nagata, he said that they had a square and he basically had to put whatever into that square.
[00:15:22] Yeah. But, I mean, literally, they just, they don't have anything on the rest of the cover but bubbles. Some goop or whatever they want to call it. That's why I liked the Goer Cribe most of the ones because at least they added the books coming out around, like, the library. Like, I like the ones that add a bit more to the details. Yeah. More to the details as opposed to just that. These covers do seem limited by the fact that they have to put all these bubbles around and they just can only really have one or two subjects on there. So,
[00:15:52] it's very limiting. I do believe I have this one if I'm not mistaken but it was given to me as a gift. Well, I got it. You have to have it in your collection. Another one I have. You still need it for your Haunted Mass collection. It is Haunted Mass so it's still in the collection but I'm just saying. Now, next up we have Yana Lessons Can Be Murder. Yet again, so this book came out after Haunted Mass. Spoiler. After, be careful what you want. That's kind of cool though. I like it because it's meant to be I was going to say
[00:16:22] Terminator. Terminator. That's Mr. Toggle isn't it? Is that Dr. Shriek? Dr. Shriek, I think. I think it's Shriek. Yeah. It could be either of them. Well, also they spoil the twist of Dr. Shriek being a robot. That's all I'm saying. Spoiler alert. It is Terminator! It's literally the same endoskeleton. It's because of the eye. It's because of the eye. It looks very you know, T-1000. Alright, here we go. Be careful what you wish for.
[00:16:51] And I actually think this one's kind of alright. I like the broken crystal ball. I like when they add a bit more to it. That's a better one. Okay, this one is kind of goofy. It's Werewolf of Fever Swamp. I'm surprised that it just happened in a minute and that was it. I just, well, the werewolf is something. That doesn't even look like a werewolf. I just love the smug face. It looks more like a
[00:17:20] Looney Tunes wolf. Is that Grady or is that Will? I don't know. Is that mid-transformation from Will? I guess it looks more like a poster for Teen Wolf. That's gotta be Will. It honestly looks like the kid from Boy Meets World. Oh yeah, Sean. his friend. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sean. I remember the real name, but yeah. You know what? I still need to get all these. As a collector, I still want them all and I think I'm missing
[00:17:50] like eight of the UK 62 books. I still want them all. They made all 62 then. Yep. Yeah. So, here we got You Can't Scare Me. I like this one. I've never seen this one before. We should have showed that to Charlotte Sullivan when she was on. I actually really like it. doesn't it? Yeah. I do like this one. I love it. You've got her in the center. You've got the two kids and then you've got even the hands coming out. Mm-hmm. It just adds more to it. I like these ones
[00:18:20] that have more. Yeah, when they use more space, I mean, but it's not so barren. Yeah. And it's just all bubble cover for sure. Here's one that did not use good good art, I don't think. It's One Day at Horrorland. What is this? Hmm. I'm fairly certain they took that from Hunchback and Order Dom and that's one of the gargoyles. That's Jason Alexander. Pretty sure. Yeah, pretty sure they stole the design from that cartoon.
[00:18:51] One of the lists. Oh, God. And then here we have That's been the worst one. Even this one's better and that says something. Well, I'm afraid of bees. I mean, at least they put some actual bees on there. Yeah. Yeah. And the curls It's weird that they try to give the it's yeah, I was going to say that too. Yeah. It's weird that they give them like the bee tongue. Doesn't it use like a yellowy color to be more like a bee? It's like a party blower sticking out of his mouth though. It does, doesn't it?
[00:19:20] I feel like the they went with something different than yellow just so they can differentiate the bees bodies personally. Yeah. Now here we have Monster Point 2 with cuddles. Christ, that is terrifying. I think it's terrifying but I don't feel like For the wrong reason. Yeah, for the wrong reasons. Yeah. No, that French version was so good. I think it was French. Yeah, we'll get to that in a second.
[00:19:50] All right, here we got Deep Trouble and I actually like this one. I like the octopus arms. Yeah, I'm a good, I'm a bad. Yeah, this one's a better one. And this one actually kind of honestly prefer the shark one but out of all the ones we've seen so far I actually really like this one too. Like I wouldn't have been so upset if this is what Tim went with like on his cover in terms of, you know, this also makes use of the bubble cover because it looks like water. Yeah. True.
[00:20:19] But another thing I've seen is that they don't spoil it like with their mermaids or anything like that so that's just like while you're reading it we'll find out. Yeah, definitely. So, all right, here we got go eat worms. Oh, man. Hey, thank you to the bubbles. I don't know, like, as much as we talk about the covers here in the States that drew us in and made us want to read the Goosebumps books,
[00:20:49] what made them want to read the Goosebumps books because it damn sure wasn't the covers, people. Come on. I don't know. Maybe, maybe some people were like, bad. I don't know, but, oh, maybe there was some kid who was like, you know what, I want to know why there is a mechanical bird with a bunch of worms coming out of its mouth. Yeah, maybe, maybe the hype was enough in the UK because Goosebumps was obviously getting around so maybe just the word of mouth was enough for them to buy them anyway. Like, but yeah, it couldn't have been
[00:21:19] the covers. It's much better than the other ones. I mean, it goes back to like, if this is the only covers you got and really you got to think there was no internet time so they really can't sit here and look and see, oh, what were the covers in America like? You know, compare covers. I mean, this is what they had so I guess it made sense that one, these are nostalgic to them but that these covers are to them could be superior so, you know, to each their own. You know, these are all my opinions of course people so don't get all butthurt
[00:21:49] just because I said don't send what I've been saying after us please. Yeah, much better than Curse of the Mummy's Tomb's cover. Yeah. Like, there's something more darker about this one. It's more edgy. I like the dark purple-y bubbles somehow works with the I don't know, just, yeah, this one looks way better. And then here we have that reminded me more of like the Mummy movie when Emoteb is Yeah, it does! getting buried
[00:22:18] underneath the pool of death or whatever you want to call it. It does actually. I think that's why this one was good. Yeah. I like this one better. And then next up we got Scarecrow Walks of Midnight. Not even a, no. Well, and also so you have like the bag head but you also have like human-esque eyes and hand which is actually it's an interesting idea because it almost looks like it's a corpse dressed up like a Scarecrow.
[00:22:48] So, it kind of looks a little creepy in that sense but just that bag head is strange. Oh, great. Well, the hand kind of is too because they used green and it looks more like like you're shucking corn but his hand is weird. Here we have Attack of the Mutant. I do kind of like how stylized it is. Almost like a comic book. It looks a little more 2D
[00:23:18] so it kind of works in that sense. And then here we have my hairy character. Hairy Larry. Mr. Harry Paul. I like that he's holding the Insta-tan though. Like, come on. He's actually holding it. Insta-tan. That's kind of cool. And he's even got it on his face like he's starting to go hairy. eh, it's not terribly. All right. Here we got Night in Terror Tower. This one's
[00:23:48] okay. It tells us the point. You know, it's the chains and the hands and the little rat there. And the rat. The rat. And then here we have Cuckoo Cuckoo Cuckoo Cuckoo Cuckoo Cuckoo Cuckoo Cuckoo Cuckoo Cuckoo Cuckoo it's a bird. It's just a bird. It's a bird. It's a bird. Not much to say about that one. All right. Here we got Monster Blood 3 and this one just kind of looks odd. It's like the
[00:24:18] first one, but now they gave it eyes for some reason. Yeah. I don't know. Again, I like the Halloween Pale Bucket more, but yeah. All right. Here we got Ghost Beach. I like this one. This one is cool. I'm bad compared to the other ones so far. I mean, again, when you compare it to Tim's design choice, I'll take Tim's all day.
[00:24:47] But yeah, I mean, this one ain't bad. Yeah. It's kind of like the Deadhouse one. That was just the skull and stone. Here we got Phantom of the Auditorium. You got some shaggy hair. It looks like Jekyll and Hyde type scenario. It does. It doesn't. And then I'm really getting Phantom of the Auditorium out of that. It's just cleaning products on a book. It's a special edition. Except what's in the middle there.
[00:25:16] See the eyeballs. Why is it special edition? There certainly ain't no SpongeBob. Oh, that's a good question. Why is this a special edition? It says see inside, but we can't open it. Anybody have that? Night of the Living Dummy 2. Obviously Slappy, because I mean, it's Night of the Living Dummy 2. I like that he's got the paintbrush though doing the thing. At least his face looks more evil than the other one. It looks like he's painting. That does in
[00:25:46] fact now guarantee and kind of say that that first book cover was Slappy. Was Slappy, yeah. It all but confirms now that that was Slappy. They just gave him red hair. Yeah. So I guess that was Slappy the whole TV show. See, this one could be brown hair. It's just the color. It's just the lighting of the yellow and the like almost like it's giving it a more orangey look, but I mean, yeah. Why couldn't they give him the red bow tie though? Why was it so hard?
[00:26:15] I don't know. Now here we have the barking ghost. That made him look like a magician on that cover anyway. It's not terrible. Not terrible. It is a pretty creepy looking dog. All things considered. Better than that werewolf we saw. Oh yeah, this is much better than the werewolf. Now from here on out, things changed up. I'm not happy. I actually would have liked to have seen what their heart kept jelly
[00:26:45] jam would have looked like. Unfortunately, from here on out, they, well, number one, they changed the logo of, from their own UK version to the more standard mainstream version, and they stopped doing original cover art in favor of doing the Tim Jacobus art. You know what? I love Tim's art, but I would have actually liked to have seen all the interpretations of these. Oh, definitely. I would have kind of got to
[00:27:15] agree because at this point, now you have inconsistency with your books in terms of the artist. But also, like, just in general design. Are you for real? Who's that artist? Who's the first one? Does it say the artist? I actually do not know. I wonder if it's maybe in the trivia somewhere. The cover artist who did the first 32 books remains unknown as of 2024.
[00:27:44] Oh, wow. What? Who was it? I have no clue. I have no idea. Remember I was talking about this and we tried to find out, I think. I wonder if it was somebody different, I don't know, or a different artist that did simulate. What if it was Tim? What if it was Tim? He was told you had to do something completely different. Now, with the UK, I do want to quickly spotlight the different spinoff series. So, forgive yourself
[00:28:14] goosebumps. They also didn't do any original cover art. They chose... I have a couple of those. I have a couple. I only have about half a dozen of them. Like I said, I don't go out of my way to buy these. It's only one of the ones I've actually found over the years, which surprisingly has been a lot, but I have that one. Now, some of these are weird because the framing of these ones is even stranger than the original series because they have the picture smudged in the corner and
[00:28:44] there's just a lot of negative space. You know what I mean? And then also at some points they have to change the artwork as you can see right here with under the magician spell. And I don't know, it just kind of looks like weird framing. So that was for Mark Nagata. Oh, but then it is weird framing. I mean, they completely just again, it's all about space on the cover and there's a lot of like just void space like that. They use that
[00:29:14] slime, whatever, lava cheese thing. Well, it looks like why would you cut the art like that? By the time they got to Professor Shock, it looks like they changed it to greatly reflect more on the cover art and then see, that looks better. Yeah, it does because you give more space to the artwork itself. They didn't do them all. Look at that. I don't have that.
[00:29:44] I've never seen that before. Yeah, I've never seen that before. that's our new thing to look for. Yeah, let the hunt begin. And then one more I'll give credit to in the UK is Series 2000. Yeah, they at least used most of the art cover this time. They only put the bubbles at the bottom a little bit. So they were learning their lesson a bit more as time went on. And of course, I have snappiest nightmare in the UK version.
[00:30:14] I'll just say they came, they saw, they squeezed full moon fever. Grandma's quite a few of these. I've managed to find so many Series 2000 books. I found all of these in the wild, like the UK ones. Like I think I'm missing like four of Series 2000. I got most of them. And as you can see too, they also do that thing that they did in the promotional art where it's like it's not under your bed. It's not in your closet,
[00:30:44] but they're doing for all the books. So like here, for example, it says it's only a game. It's only a dare. It's only torture. Like that's actually kind of neat. I like that they added that. Yeah. So yeah, so change the angles to like the angles are different. on some of them. Yeah, they're not using the entire art piece. They're zooming in on a chunk of it.
[00:31:14] Some of them are flipped too, like the haunted car. I see that's the other side. And full moon fever. Like those ones. And then we got some collections. I have one of those. I have one. I have, I think it's one of the later ones though. No, that one. So. Actually, no, I think it was. Yeah, no, I have collection four with Headless Halloween. Yeah. I see.
[00:31:45] So that was the UK covers. Now we're going to move on to some real good ones. We got the French covers. Okay, so if you guys remember in our Monster Evolution video, we clowned on the French interpretations of these monsters a lot. So now we're going to take a look at all the different French covers. So starting off with Curse of the Mummy's Tomb. Look at that mummy. There's nothing wrong with that one. I don't really like
[00:32:15] the skeleton face. Yeah, I was going to say that looks more like a digital cartoon from like the 2000s that they were doing at the time. Yeah. Some look okay, some just look bad. Now, one thing that the French did do was they did reprints. So this is a reprint version of Curse of the Mummy's Tomb. That looks pretty cool. I kind of like that. Yeah, that one I think looks
[00:32:44] amazing and there will be a few more of those there. Oh, yeah. What the action of hell. I share that kid's expression. I have that, but I do have that, but I'm just like, no. It's a different one. I'm wondering if that version two then. Yeah, that one. There we go. That's the one that you have. Is that Lindy or is that Chris? I don't know if that's Lindy. Who knows, but they're very uncomfortable.
[00:33:17] I can see why. It's like Jack Nicholson. Here we have much better. They've literally done the same thing they did with the Japanese cover where he's sitting in the chair with the moon pouring in. It's that particular shot they always use. Here is Say Cheese and Die. He's kind of creepy, but it looks like King Ramses return the
[00:33:46] snub. return the snub. It does. I think that's why I don't hate it because it gives me that vibe. I don't know. It just looks odd like I don't know. And then this kid down here is just like all and then here's the remake. There's blood. There's freaking blood on the kid. That's creepy. I like it. Yeah, it's kind of cool. That is cool. I like
[00:34:16] the rainbow. I like the photo it's put out too. It's kind of creepy in its own bright. Yeah, it is, isn't it? See, whoever they got for those new covers are doing a great job. Yeah. This is Let's Get Invisible. I don't see that being very frightening. Nope, not at all. This one, however, that one looks good. That looks good.
[00:34:46] I like that. I can see that being part of a horror comic or something. That looks really good. You know what I just realized, though, when you say this? You know how we always talk about how the original art is so much better, like Tim's and then all the reissues. Brandon Dorman's good, but obviously not as good. But then when you talk about the French ones, it's flipped around. Oh, yeah. Not that great, but the reissues look better. Also, if you can see on the right here, what the original name, what the name in French is.
[00:35:15] So like Curse of the Mummy's Tomb is just the Curse of the Mummy. Close enough. Close enough. And then Night of the Living Dummy is the Night of the Dummies. I mean, that's close. Dangerous pictures. Dangerous pictures. Prisoners of the Mirror. That's not terrible. That's actually a neat title. I do like that title actually. Yeah. All right, here we got Why I'm Afraid of Bees, otherwise known as Beware of Bees,
[00:35:45] Flash, Revenge of the Bugs. I don't hate it. It's kind of funny, that one. It's funny. It's just corny. It gives me, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids vibes more than Why I'm Afraid of Bees. It's not a terrible one because in my opinion, I think that was just funny. It looks funny. Some of these did change artwork in between the first and second versions. This was the first and then this was the second. I kind of like this one.
[00:36:15] It kind of fits the title of Why I'm Afraid of Bees. Like, oh, it's on my nose. It's going to sting me. Yeah. It's an interesting picture. Then version seven. Whoa. That's it. What the hell, man? that's how to do this artwork. Like, it's like, no, I need to look into that because this is amazing. Oh, I want these. I want these. It looks more like he's controlling the bees. bees. Yeah, it does. Doesn't it? That would be a
[00:36:45] master book. Be master. All right. Here we got Welcome to Dead House or the House of the Dead. And terrible. Not a terrible. I don't know who this is supposed to be, but they got an ugly face. Looks more like the dead girl used to live in the house. I reckon it's Karen Thurston. Okay, this one is a little goofy.
[00:37:14] I think I actually like the original one better. Those two. That one I can see more like for a graphic novel cover. Yeah. Like the house in behind them. Like you just have the house as a backdrop. Maybe that's the focus right now. Like a graphic novel, at least the cover. That's why they all have that same pattern. I'm hoping that she does welcome the dead house as the next graphic novel. I hope so. All right, here we got deep
[00:37:44] trouble or no swimming. No swimming. No swimming. Is that meant to be legs? Yes. Yep. Yeah. So we got the shark. This one, I guess they changed up the angle here. At least I can tell that they're flippers on that angle. That is wow. Yeah, I like that one. Yeah. Who's the guy that did these? Is that his name there?
[00:38:14] No. Does it even say the artist? I don't think so. I think that's just the publisher on the bottom corner. Can we get this artist on and talk to him? I kind of like his stuff. Ah, a skeleton. I mean, the art's really good on the kid. Yeah,
[00:38:44] that's just the Grim Reaper, buddy. Yeah. Now this one. Cool, dude. I want to buy all of these. I like that. I would not mind having these. I was going to say the same thing. I will buy these versions, like the later versions. That actually looks really cool. We might have to become friends with French Goosebone guy and be like, hey, can you pick these up? Here we got the Scarecrow Walks of Midnight or
[00:39:13] the Scarecrows of Midnight. There's only three versions for this one. It looks like he's got laser eyes. I was going to say he's got heat vision. That's a bummer. I was excited about that one too. Yeah. So what was the last does it say when the last version was made? I think it was as late as 1995 probably. I don't think it says exactly, but no issue,
[00:39:43] unfortunately. Next up is Welcome to Camp Nightmare. Welcome to the Camp of Fear or The Camp of Fear. That's terrible. What's with this hair, dude? Well, it also just completely spoils that they're aliens because that's a different planet. It looks like they're on Mars. look at his hair. What is that? This one is in the 90s, man. Don't you remember seeing like Will Smith?
[00:40:14] Oh, like Elvis has it. Yeah, I was looking at it. I was like, isn't this one? I was like, it looks like that was the original version. You got version four. Yeah, three, four or something like that. I don't know. I like that version. Best check number seven. Yeah. That one's kind of creepy. Yeah. Is that supposed to be Saber? Oh, my God. Yes. If that's Saber, that is terrifying.
[00:40:45] Yeah, four and seven are good covers. If I can find that one, though, I definitely would like that. Yeah, I think this is the first French cover where we're like, wow, that actually looks kind of okay. Yeah, that's the best French version so far. And then seven, that one, that one's my favorite of that one book. Oh, here we go. I'm so scared. I know what the first one looks like. God. Why? Okay. Okay. You know what,
[00:41:15] though? The front looks cool, but the background looks cool. The background looks great. You know what it looks like? I don't know what they were thinking with that. It looks like that painting. I don't remember what the name of it is, but the farmer and his wife. Actually, a little bit of the scream, too, but the one where it's like the farmer and his wife. You know what I mean? Yeah. There's actually one on eBay that somebody says is, I guess, a rare one. I don't know why. I've never seen
[00:41:45] Galastic or anybody have that. version one. The background makes it somewhat okay, but the front, obviously the mask looks terrible, but the background looks sick. That one just looks bad. This whole thing right here looks like crap. There it is. I'm learning right now. You're winning. You're not so many. I've got about eight of them, but I don't have. And I have a lot that I'm trying to. Much better. I like this one. I will say out of all of those, that one is the best one
[00:42:15] for sure. Yeah. Look at those eyes. I mean, I would have preferred it if the teeth were a bit more sharp, but I get looking at the teeth. They're connecting to the teeth. Like, it does kind of look like it's connecting to their face. Yeah. I like that. I mean, it's good art. I mean, I do like that one compared to the others for sure. So we have the Phantom of the Auditorium. So not that
[00:42:45] same title. So that looks like Nosefra too. I was going to say a kid from the 90s really scared because his hair is really, really high up there. Yeah. He's just upset because his hair gel worked too well. There's no remake of that one. No reminds me of those. Oh, no, it's in a frame and it's on the other side. Never mind. All right. Here we got the werewolf of Fever Swamp. Oh, no. It's not
[00:43:14] bad, but no, that's just a giant Doberman. I'm surprised this one didn't get a remake. No, like a reissue. Well, I will say these remakes are coming out steadily still. In fact, there was just a new batch that was released last month. So we might still see a remake of some of these ones that don't have them yet. All right. I think they would do it. Okay. Next up is Night of the Living
[00:43:44] Dummy 2. And I actually kind of like this one. I have it and it looks reminds me of the TV show, the new TV show version, the body, the lanky body. Yeah, I like the hands. I just like how utterly wooden this dummy looks, like even down to the hinged feet. Yeah. It definitely gives me vibes. This one should have a remake. It does. I love that so much. I really
[00:44:14] like that one. Yeah. Because that's literally when he comes out and starts painting on the... It looks like blood, doesn't it? Even how he's holding the paintbrush is almost like how you'd hold a knife. Yeah, like, see, because in the book obviously there's the scene where he writes Amy's name all over the walls like a hundred times, but they didn't put that in the episode. And you can tell they took from the movie version of Slappy for this one. Yeah, there's a bit of a mixture there, yeah. All right. Oh, God, here we go. Here we go.
[00:44:44] Here's Attack of the Mutant. Yeah. Oh, my God. Look at how so bad, dude. Look at how doofy this is. Do you reckon he's got that? He's got anything. Did you guys ever, did you ever see the movie Blank Man? No, no. Blank Man. Oh, my gosh. You guys need any. Okay. So I had one of the Wayne's brothers. I can't remember which one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It looks like that. Um, I think it's
[00:45:13] the actor that was with Bruce Willis, um, Boy Scout. Was it a true Boy Scout or something like that? It was the same actor. Damon. No, I know you're talking about. It might've been Damon Wayans. I can't remember. It is one of the Wayne's brothers though, but that's what his outfit kind of looked like. red pajamas. Here we have ghost next door. Ooh. And this one was pretty good. I mean,
[00:45:43] to the point, that's not terrible to the point for version one, considering we've mostly have just been liking the later versions. That one's actually probably the best version one. Yeah. Let's see the remake. They're all the same. Oh, there we go. I like that. I love the blue fire. You're gonna like this one better. Oh, definitely. Yeah. No, I like, I like six the best out of that for sure. Oh, yeah. All right. Here we go. I'm gonna have to remind some of these later versions. Or forbidden
[00:46:12] basement. Forbidden basement. All right. So we got this your plant food looking kid. And then that's pretty good. I like that one more. Yeah. Again, it leaves it a little more ominous compared to strangling a little girl. I think that's a boy. Hey,
[00:46:42] I can't tell whatever. These days. So that tower tower not bad. That's not weird. They're just a bunch of rats though. Yeah. So is he looking down trying to like kill all the rats that are down there and just more keep coming? He's just an exterminator. Look at his eyes. He's like, Jesus Christ. Get away. And then, oh, tower of terror. Ooh,
[00:47:12] don't get sued by your tower tower. All right. Next up, we got piano lessons can be murder and that's piano lessons. Deadly traps. Deadly traps. This one's this one's all right. I like the skeletal hands. I think that was the original idea that Tim had. If I'm not mistaken, he wanted to make the hand skeletons. I remember. I think so. I like how you can see where like the arm, the femur,
[00:47:42] not the femur, the just the arm bone is like broken off from the hands. You can see that. Yeah. I like that. Next up is be careful what you wish for or dangerous wishes. It's kind of creepy. It's a little creepy. Almost looks like the old witch from EC comics. A little bit. No, same. Just a few color differences.
[00:48:11] Next up is it came from beneath the sink. There's nothing wrong with that. Terror under the sink. That one's actually fine. Yeah, that doesn't look too bad. No, not really. Kind of reminds me of the original one anyway. A little bit. Ooh. I like that. That's why I said I like that. That was the first thing I saw. I want to buy all these reissue ones and maybe
[00:48:40] like half a dozen of the original. I need to we need to find out who if we end up finding out who did this art I'll make sure to put their name up somewhere. Yeah, we need to get them on the podcast. If they speak English, if they speak English, get them on the podcast. Yeah, definitely. Translate. So we got Return of the Mummy. That'd be an interesting video. We might have to get French Goosebumps guy to translate as we talk to him.
[00:49:10] So here's Return of the Mummy. We got that skeleton face mummy again. That's sick. Fricking hell, man. This guy's nailing it. kind of cool. I do like it. Whoever's doing these last versions is doing a pretty good job. Okay, here we go. Haunted Mask 2, baby. Let's get into it. There's clearly no reissue of that. There's only full of I've never seen that one. Yeah, I have, but I was never a fan because I was just like, I mean, that does look kind of like an old man face or
[00:49:40] an old woman face or something. Yeah, that's the one I have. The other one's better. Version 1's actually better. Yeah. So doofy. That one's funny. This one is funny. This one is just like funny. Version 1 actually looks kind of creepy in a way to that. Yeah, version 1 compared to the other one. I mean, yeah, I'll take one over those. Here we got Cuckoo Clock of Doom. I like that the bird's mechanical.
[00:50:10] You can see that. That's fine. I don't hate that one. The cursed clock. Some of them are fine. Like, that's, yeah, again, whoever they got for these reissue artwork pieces is doing a great job. The mechanical bird. And look, you can see like a screaming child like swirling in the clock face. Wow. Oh man, I'm buying all these. I need to find a friend that lives over in a friend. Wow. That's awesome.
[00:50:39] I will pay you to buy me all these. Okay, here's King Kong, otherwise known as Horrorland. It's better than the UK one. Oh God. It's better than the UK. How does that not have a reissue though? Like, Horrorland's so iconic. I don't know, man. There's only three versions. It looks like Girl Cried Monster probably might not have one either. Oh, that's creepy. That's actually kind of neat though. Yeah. I mean, they kind of went for like the Mormon eye.
[00:51:09] It's holding the turtle. And he's eating the turtle. Oh my God. I actually want that version. Well, version one. Version one's darker. I like it. Yeah. I want the version one. Yeah. I want that. Okay, here we got how I got my shrunken head. It's not bad. It's not bad. Creepy. I mean, it's actually a legit what a real looking shrunken head would be. Not the green version that we all know. Yeah. And then here
[00:51:39] we got version two. He's trying to yell it. Kalia! Kalia! Kalia! And remake? That's got a remake. Remake. Oh, look! Disney Plus sticker on it. Yeah. Yeah. These are new then. Probably like five years ago maybe. Yeah. Probably. That'd be my guess too. Well, if it's around the time of the Disney Plus, it might have even been within the last year or so. But I like it. Ooh,
[00:52:09] Shock on Shock Street. What do we got? Shock Street. The Cursed Street. So here we got a big bug person. The Cursed Street. That came out in 97 that book. Yeah. Alright, here's Headless Ghost. Or the decapitated Ghost. I think it's okay. It's alright. Oh, what does Harry Larry look like?
[00:52:39] Oh, yeah. Harry's Adventure. See, that looks more like alert to dogs. That's what should have been the cover for Werewolf Fever Swamp. Yeah, that's one I have. I have that one. That one's actually like mid-transformation slash thriller werewolf vibes. Yeah, it does look very thriller. I think it's the eyes. Alright, here we got the face actually in the whisker things,
[00:53:09] even though I don't know why they, gave them whiskers. Pay cheese and die again. Pictures of misfortune. Oh my God. Is that spider or is that the teacher? I don't know. I would hope my teacher didn't look like that. That's gotta be spider again. And then ghost camp. Alright, here Bjorn. I love this one.
[00:53:40] Do I love the other? Sorry, it's good, but ain't no Tim. I do like the, ooh, that one's cool. I like that. These are new. These are the stickers. Look at the stickers on them. They're very new. Yeah, I like the half ghost almost. Danny Phantom looking ass. Yeah, it's better than the other one. Alright, Legend of the Lost Legend. What? That actually got a book over there? The Threat of the Forest. Threat of the
[00:54:10] So I got this wizard. This old man with braids. The Threat of the Forest. Ooh. It's kind of simple, but how is that book getting a remake before like Horned Mask 2? Or Terra Tower? Like, what? I don't know, man. Maybe it's more popular over there than it was here. Honestly, that's plausible, too. Maybe some books are more popular
[00:54:40] overseas. Alright, we got How to Kill a Monster with an alligator, man. Almost looks like a dragon. Yeah, like straight up ripped off an alligator, but with a snake tongue. No remaking. Like, a wolf body. Another one that's called Just How to Kill a Monster is a cat body. I'm not really sure. kind of have a wolf body to it. That's interesting. A wolf cat body or something.
[00:55:10] What is it? The Coop of the Rabbit. Bad hair day. That's better because you see more. Yeah. Version one, you lose the picture. Yeah. It looks better when you zoom it out. Oh boy, here's Beast from the East. Game is a monster. It's kind of creepy though. It's weird. I don't know how I feel about it. it's funny. It's troll or something.
[00:55:41] It's got a long neck creature thing. Not bad. Don't go to sleep. go to sleep. Nightmare nights. Nightmare nights. Nightmare nights. Oh, it's just reversed. It's not even different. It's reversed. Yeah. All right. Calling all creeps. I mean, it's monstrous calls. It's inspired. At least it's a purple creature thing. Monster.
[00:56:11] It's a purple alligator thing. Creature. Actually, I like version better. This is the first time where I say I like version one better than four. Interesting. Yeah. I mean, I think the art's a little better for the last one, but the overall picture for that first one is better. Yeah. It's at least somewhat items with alligator purple thing. Here we got a vampire breath.
[00:56:42] snap. It's Christopher Lee. It's just called the vampire breath. The vampire breath. He just added the go eat worms. Go eat worms. That's not bad. It's actually good. I don't hate that one. I feel like it's very well struck back. Remember when we talked to Tim he didn't know what to do
[00:57:12] with that. That's why we had the song out there called that too. Be sure to play it right here. can't do that.
[00:57:42] Bjorn here we go. Horror camp Jellyjam. What version do I have two or three? Looks like you in a dark tunnel I would be freaked out. Speaking of goo here's
[00:58:12] monster blood. Oh wow they haven't reissued that. That came out in 98. Why did that come out so late? I don't know. Beware the snowman ooh ooh that was kind of cool. I like that it's more than one it's like an army of them. Yeah and you got few of them smiling a few of them frowning it's weird they gave him like actual human ears though. Yeah abominable snowmen I
[00:58:43] have this cry the cat cry the part part the 62 yeah that's true doesn't have anything different than the other ones that's crazy they reach
[00:59:13] cry the cat I like the fire effect on it I live in the artist but I think it's just the publisher right I think that's just the publisher yeah so I live in your basement or the beast of the seller oh here we go we got a better look at it big old head I mean if you

[01:08:35] what was good for him well hey i don't knock i don't knock some of the art that we saw i mean now granted most of those french ones not whoever did the art on those later ones were like yeah

[01:12:13] uh to fill freaking load series 2000 ones oh my god so there we got cry the cat it's got rip on it and then whoa this is invasion and this is are you terrified yet it's a neat cover man they must be so rare to get those series 2000 ones and here's the give yourself goosebumps looks
[01:12:43] oh wait hold on whoa we got a different cover for alone in snakebite canyon holy moly looks like the only eagle fang tails to give you goosebumps had some this one had curse and curse and interesting they just used some of the yeah the covers they used for certain things were
[01:13:12] I don't even know what this is looks like a gargoyle it says stories of nightmare that's what it says on top but it doesn't specify which stories I guess yeah oh this must be tales and more tales yeah this
[01:13:42] here's years 2000 they did them all didn't they yeah and then looks like going forward same for horrorland and whatnot wow that's interesting oh wait hold on hold on minster edition 8 secret agent grandma had a an exclusive cover what is that show that one to mark nah I like marks better oh my god yeah marks is better
[01:14:12] I don't even know what that's supposed to be I don't either it's funny how they're all the same and then there's like one here that's different one here that's different like yeah it's strange 95% the same well it looks like here for the Italian covers are pretty much the same just the same thing as most of the Spanish ones just a different frame here we have the Portuguese covers again these ones are
[01:14:42] pretty many of these kind of follow the same format as the American ones so yeah there's only one reissue book down the bottom and it was what was it get to those Korean ones I just wanted to show you these stickers
[01:15:11] on the back oh wow that's cool different books I'll send you guys a picture of that but yeah it was kind of hard to find this one but yeah it comes with eight pictures eight stickers some of them don't but yeah just wanted to let you guys know that these are out there yeah I didn't know they had inserts either kind of like they did here in the states
[01:15:41] I gotta find one of those two apparently definitely I gotta find one of that monster edition eight I'm like that's that's all it's on my right now I gotta have that all right now we're gonna move on to the Dutch covers so there is welcome to debt house they look really street you yeah yeah and then stay out of the basement
[01:16:11] another kid getting strangled by plants you have that oh my god you've got so many different like versions this was a lot actually I found yeah I think it was eight books eight or nine they're hardcover which is cool here's another version of stay out of the basement that's better than the other one I think actually no go back no I don't know which one's better they're both pretty they're both about the same monster
[01:16:41] blood what I don't know is why it's spelled differently if you notice the first one the first day out of the basement doesn't have an N and the other one does yeah I think that's the earlier version and this is the second version I'll keep it in I see yeah here's another monster blood here it actually shows the monster blood so and then there's the cat
[01:17:08] this is werewolf a fever swamp what couldn't imagine like going to a book festival and just finding these on the table I'd be like what the hell but now I know what to look for keep in well
[01:17:38] oh here's girl pride monster yeah okay oh my god poor turtle oh no oh my god look at these fish fish and that's what is that a jelly it almost like a jellyfish yeah yeah I was gonna say I think it's a jellyfish oh my god that's like just straight up blood there holy crap these look like fair street books I'm telling you the art is like they do have more of a yeah they do have more of a fair street
[01:18:07] kind of vibe this is haunted mask you wouldn't even think you wouldn't even think these were kids I would never have guessed it's actually kind of cool a little bit these look like teens it's different it does have it but it doesn't have the end this one this one does yeah this one also doesn't have it on straight up look like teen books well here's camp nightmare why is it a giant fly giant fly
[01:18:38] with a human like mouth for some reason camp crusty camp crusty he's got the cake here's horror land I mean it's kind of inspired the sign looks similar these kids laughing in front the one on the right looks like Lloyd Christmas from it does
[01:19:08] a little bit alright here we got monster blood 2 you can see the hamster hand coming through oh we got the cool doesn't phase people in the kitchen at all this is curse of the mummy's tomb right here I kind of like it the mummy looks creepy return another reprint I would think that one looks more like a
[01:19:40] discovery channel cover this is how I got my shrunken head what not this cover but the mummy cover I mean yeah and then this one is the headless ghost I was gonna say that looks like welcome to dead house it looks sick I was gonna say I thought this was dead house yeah nope already did dead house and I would say that's a cool one if it was all right here we got phantom of the auditorium what look at that face
[01:20:10] like a goblin face yeah it's a 2023 haunt mask yeah getting closer to finding where they inspired that from all right this is ghosts next door how many of these have you got he shared he shares quite a few of these as well I was like oh yeah no we should have them on this one
[01:20:40] I bet you got a bunch this is Jekyll and Heidi oh huh interesting almost looks like Nicolas Cage doesn't it god that'd be funny they didn't do many here this is tales it seems like actually oh I was gonna say I thought
[01:21:09] this was caught on creeps but it's labeled as tales to give you goosebumps it was added by son of oh you know why because it says 8x so it's like 8 stories or 10 stories oh that's so weird in a way weird this is attack of the graveyard ghouls that's actually a crap I didn't notice that coming out whoa who's this
[01:21:41] I didn't see that one chimney sweep yeah that was actually kind of creepy alright this one is horrors of the black ring and then we got it was like do you guys remember the comic character the phantom oh yeah yeah yeah or was it the phantom the shadows or something like that shoot it says junior junior wait so were these just like more adult
[01:22:10] versions of see I've seen that who knows I guess the first ones yeah they were more for like maybe teenagers and then these maybe they have been modified I guess inside I don't know yeah I've seen them around but yeah these are whoa is this the blob they ate everyone oh interesting like something from South Park this is brain juice
[01:22:41] I kind of like that I like this good odd look what was it again brain concentrate was it brain concentrate was the french name brain concentrate all right this one is werewolf not from concentrate okay that's like the scene right where he's watching the people take off the werewolf skin yeah and then here we go okay we're back to wait
[01:23:11] what was that go back tv guide no that was just a there's just a thing from the wiki i was gonna say is that something you can buy keeping veil junior okay yeah so here so keeping veil 8x and 10x are both anthologies of various tales to give you goosebumps short stories however both include how to kill a monster interesting so maybe i guess that's supposed to be how to kill
[01:23:41] monster weird so that's the dutch now we're moving on to the fun stuff first we're going on to japanese i have one these are some of my favorites so here we got thanks to Elvis i have one beautiful these are beautiful I have one myself so this is say cheese and die this is always one i saw around on the internet
[01:24:10] was this one yes love the common that one this is the sink the cool thing is they only made 10 so that's a cool thing it's something that you can get you know you don't have to get like old 62 um they just picked 10 different order but yeah yeah i don't know like i really like the japanese covers i wish they did have all 62 this is the headless ghost yeah that looks sick
[01:24:40] i brought that one that was almost looks like the sea captain is holding the head he is isn't he yeah yeah he is hold the head here's night of the shadow is like a demon i like that it's so good oh my god so good i love it and it comes with like their own type of insert more like promos i guess i i don't know what
[01:25:10] exactly at the end of the book it's interesting it's i guess it's an order form i really don't i'm not sure right i don't i don't speak japanese and they all have either but it's also interesting that they have illustrations in them too like it's not all yeah just text i do like this invisible one they'll have the
[01:25:40] thing on top where you can take off what's it called yeah the sleeve the book cover i don't speak japanese the dozen jacket here's stay out of the basement yeah that's the one i have i do love that cover yeah the faces yeah yeah the fruit oh it's so good all right this is ghost camp yeah i love that they did
[01:26:10] ghost camp because we haven't had a reshoot ghost camp yet like the japanese covers are so good this is ghost next door oh yeah it's one of my favorites yep yeah the way if you zoom it on the yeah look at that like the eyes just creepy yeah anime in a way and then the last one is yeah
[01:26:40] they're all good my least favorite other japanese covers but it's still good yeah it's just i kind of wish i did a little more with it so it says that monster blood was published as the 10th book in japan during the sony magazine run there was a five page preview for one day at horrorland as it was intended to be the 11th book published there however that never came through as only 10 were released throughout that run that's a bummer yeah i think this is the
[01:27:09] second run right yeah it was a first run first i think i think so sure these all came out in 06 07 yeah 2007 was the last one all right now we're moving on to the korean cover yes one book that features mr wood on the actual yep we're starting off with the living dummy oh man we got mr wood oh this is mr
[01:27:39] wood then right that's mr wood yep okay so they actually got mr wood on one for once and then this is the haunted mask that's so weird yeah i showed this to nick the other day and while i was showing it to him i realized it comes with um illustration inside oh yeah and i didn't even know until i didn't know until you know i was talking they even
[01:28:08] have like this version of arlstein literally awesome yeah oh my god that's awesome pretty neat that is neat all right this is a dead house this is welcome to dead house and then this one is welcome to camp nightmare Bjorn this is camp nightmare these are a little bit more difficult to find
[01:28:38] for some reason i mean they're out there but i just i don't know how many they made i just want not loving dummy with mr wood on the cover and i want that monster edition eight that's like the two the two books at the top of my list making his wish list that's my wish list those two are at the top of it and then this is how i got my shrunken head i don't understand it it's it's kind of interesting that there's spirits coming out of it but it looks very
[01:29:07] like kindergarten sort of drawing but who knows here we got a good one here's mummies too that's okay i like it i like the fire behind them and that there's multiple mummies can you see that yeah oh yeah all right here's werewolf of fever swamp i like that that's dark as shit and then really whoa i like this
[01:29:37] one oh this is phantom of the auditorium is it really nice yeah phantom of the auditorium definitely don't get that vibe off the cover but creepy as shit and i like that art blood on the floor with the hand coming out of the trap door that's creepy all right here's monster blood yeah i thought that was a coffin at first the way they had it shaped so i didn't even see the floor until you said that yeah you could see it's kind of separated as a window in a coffin so here we got monster blood
[01:30:07] and this is one that i personally don't like it looks like a meatball commercial it's released recently well within the last 10 years okay so monster blood here was january 2nd 2015 but there we got monster blood here's beware the snowman that's fine i like it ooh say cheese and die it's cool look at the face that was neat
[01:30:36] i like it yeah i like that one face coming out this is it came from this is it came from beneath the sink what yeah that's very different well yeah i don't understand that one at all based on the story but save the earth that's what her shirt says save the earth oh i reckon that this person didn't even have a description they just were given the title and they're like okay who knows this one is
[01:31:06] my best friend is invisible what okay well they gave away the ending of aliens yep oh here we got one day at horrorland i yep oh yeah no yep no i remember my daughter draws better than that you when we did our monster evolutions video you guys did not like this one so again
[01:31:36] no oh ooh this is deep trouble deep trouble but it's just a shark with a alright is that a face in its mouth like if you turn to the right is that kind of like a face i don't think it was meant to be but i can see what you're talking about yeah kind of like a yeah don't let me out of this shark that's what kyle looks like yeah okay here we go we got you can't scare me
[01:32:05] it looks like freddy krueger i think he's okay got multiple eyeballs coming out of his body here's a bombable snowman that's the movie version i wouldn't be surprised it was coming around at the same time ooh shocker on shock street that's fine blab they ate everyone and this little kid yeah see that kind of reminds me of Tim's meow meow
[01:32:36] wow the haunted car that's kind of cool i like the hand in the front there yeah it's just the it's basically like Tim's cover but they just really really exaggerated it like a lot whoa here's stay out of the basement leaves thrown out of his hand I'm sure I stay out of the basement but like they gave him a plant mohawk yeah a plant hawk
[01:33:06] all right that's kind of rad this is this is ghost camp and then this is vampire breath vampire breath that's yeah yep that one's a bit on the nose hmm and then this is be careful what you wish for i like it i like the colors on there sort of rainbow effect attack of the jack i like this one i like it
[01:33:35] almost reminds me of that gives me like a vintage halloween vibe i was gonna say it almost reminds me of the the disney sleepy hollow cartoon yeah i can see that oh here we got this one my favorite one yeah this is one i'm still looking for oh i love it so freaking cool like ever since we saw this in that last video we did like the podcast we did yeah i've been looking for this one still cannot find it yeah uh let's get invisible there's a big eye in the background
[01:34:07] and this one is ghost beach i like this one i'm not saying whoa that's sick so maybe ghost beach yeah that's good art i like that i like it you can see the water at the bottom there i like the sort of waves this one is the ghost next door ghost next door yeah okay and all right this one is night in terror tower yep okay why is that like
[01:34:39] that's just i don't get it it looks weird they might have had different artists work on these books yeah this is attack of the graveyard ghouls no it's all right some are just phenomenal and then others like i don't know meh all right this one is return of the mummy i like this one i like it get his hand
[01:35:09] ooh bride of the living dummy i can't believe that's a book like they did that one i'd say so like okay so this so so this post like you remember when we had uh scott and maryland on here i i saw this and i tagged maryland i was like does this not look like her as a dummy like and she got a good laugh out of it i mean like it does i don't i don't care what anybody says if you put a side-by-side of this with her
[01:35:39] dude it's spot on it looks just a little bit it's so weird obviously this is a much more demented face version but i mean like they have similar hair facial everything it's so funny dude i guess is slappy supposed to be scott in this situation i guess you know maybe make slappy bald if that's the case but this one is the headless ghost i like it that looks more like a terror tower
[01:36:09] i don't know yeah i was getting more of a different book than that but i mean that's still good yeah that's eddie and sue down the bottom and then there's whatever that is and then the tower and just random ghosts and then there's that's what i get out of it that looks more like a terror tower to me that's him going go back run for your life ooh this is haunted mask 2 so we got the old man mask there i like this
[01:36:37] it's kind of creepy though it looks creepy but i don't know if i spawned masks that looks kind of looks like it to me you can see either like doing like a mirror sort of effect yeah i mean i guess but like you see the outraged arm like gently caressing the boy's face like yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah here's a revenge i like this one yeah i remember this clearly lawn notes i don't know what else it could be and then
[01:37:07] that's it that's the last one so 36 books okay yep yep yep that was a lot 2019 okay so that's not that long ago yeah these yeah these are not that long ago toothpaste so you think they'd be like really easier to find yeah yeah because they're righteous pretty tough not the living down
[01:37:45] plan it's really expensive these ones it was gonna cost over a hundred bucks just to get one so this one is curse of the mummy's tomb right here sort of doing like the scream i like it okay this is haunted mask i've seen that i think uh 90 kids library has that one i think so too it looks like some creepy fun house yeah i agree i don't get how that's haunted mask
[01:38:15] i think i've seen 90s kid library with this one yeah all right this is monster blood right here clearly so i really like that one and then this one is night of the living dummy we got literally ripped slappy from the movie yeah he's just kind of sitting there and put him in a chair these are the only ones that we have access to right now and we got one more set to look at now this whole
[01:38:44] page is courtesy of it's audra and uh she's a very talented artist who is a fan of goosebumps on instagram so thank you to her for posting all these but these are the indonesian covers for some of the original goosebumps books so we have werewolf fever swamp first and then this is haunted mask i was gonna say i don't know what this is that is haunted mask and that is supposed to be the haunted
[01:39:14] mask and then this is abominable snowman of pasadena i see snowman mysterious like bigfoot it does look like bigfoot yes snowman mystery the mystery of the snowman monster blood blood monster yep we just thought a monster yeah i just flipped it around and we won't make any jokes about this cover art let's move on this is a
[01:39:44] girl who cried monster girl who likes monster girl who likes monster girl likes monster monster likes girl and no and you can see uh he's eating the fly and then here she's taking the picture oh yeah that's kinda neat that's neat yeah here we have it came from beneath the sink tiny creature disastrous tiny creature disastrous and then night of the living dummy the live
[01:40:13] action puppet wait oh my god the live action puppet and finally uh i believe this is ghost next year yeah i would say so neighboring ghost it's weird that some countries only did a few like just a handful like just to be like yeah we've done some yeah it's very interesting to see which ones do and which ones don't
[01:40:44] and that's all the covers that we have uh available to look at today uh i'm curious to know you know we looked at a ton of covers guys uh i'm curious to know what some of your favorites and maybe even least favorites were among that whole bunch uh elvis do you have any preferences um i do i have this chinese actually i have two different versions of chinese goosebumps this is the ghost camp um there's a
[01:41:13] version that's like shiny here um but it has like egg monsters i think this one has three two or three stories in it oh okay i was gonna say if it didn't that would weird um because that's what they had at chow in the morning there's rl stein yeah i mean there's this version and there's a not illustrated and then there's there's also
[01:41:43] a different version chinese there's the haunted mask um very different yeah so and then you have be careful what you wish it's so weird color palette is what i'm asking yeah i mean inside is like those are the only illustrations you would find in the corners um that's kind of cool they put those he's inside too um yeah overall i would
[01:42:13] say japanese japanese in my case i i just love the japanese version when i found those i was like i only found one and i started looking for it and then i ended up finding like the whole selling all 10 of them so i was like yes i think i think they're still around some people are still selling them that way um for a really good price but if you buy them individual then shipping gets a little bit crazy
[01:42:42] yeah it always does um bjorn any favorites or least favorites from that whole bunch well my least favorites probably either the uk the the early half of them or probably french but in saying that my favorites were the japanese and the
[01:43:12] remake the reissues of the french ones they were awesome i because i hadn't i've seen some of them like i'd seen nyla w2 and i think i'd seen the seichis and daewon and the haunted last but i didn't see all of them i didn't realize there was that many and i think a lot of those french reissues looked really good too like i want to know who that artist is so japanese and french reissues i'd say but there was a few korean ones as well that's the thing the korean ones were hit and miss hit and miss
[01:43:41] some were really hit and the mark and then some were like this looks nothing like what you know i mean it just would like nick said it looked like his daughter could have drawn better on the horror lane one so i'm like certain things great other things yeah that's okay yeah i think japanese and probably the best followed by the french reissues and then my least favorite probably the original french and uk ones
[01:44:11] yeah and nick what about you my man oh i mean i love all the japanese covers with the exception of like maybe the one i can't remember which one it was but i mean it was only okay it wasn't bad it was just okay compared to the rest and like we said you know the later french ones seem to be pretty cool and then of course the korean ones had some neat ones and including some i'm still looking for like the scarecrow walks in midnight
[01:44:40] one of my favorite ones that they have all of the covers but yeah i mean it's hard to say but like definitely the early french ones i didn't care for um i mean the italian ones are just tim's art so i can't i can't even really count those but yeah when you go into different artworks and styles we got a lot to look into uh trying to find some people to get on this podcast seeing who did the artwork for some of these books because i would like to talk to some of these
[01:45:08] people um even if it's someone who you know we kind of dogged on a little bit be like hey what was what were you thinking when you made this what what is this what did you did you read the book did they tell you anything about the book because some of the covers make no sense admittedly they make no sense yeah no they don't but uh i mean it's always interesting to just see how a different uh country handles uh interpreting
[01:45:38] the goosebumps books both uh cover wise and you know also just translating into a different language and um you know you guys already said it but some of the the best are definitely the uh the japanese ones which are phenomenal and uh the remake french ones which are i will it's so funny how the french went from having the goofiest covers to having probably some of the best modern covers uh of the international releases so they really had a that's a comeback
[01:46:07] story for the ages right there but um yeah it's just an interesting and and there's many other countries that got goosebumps too uh we primarily tried to focus on the ones that had drastic differences but many other countries uh were pretty similar to the american versions they used the jacobus art they had similar um they had sort of similar framing but we wanted to look at the ones that were very much different and see how uh you know faithful they were to the ones that
[01:46:37] we grew up with so um some good some bad but uh i'm curious to know like anyone in the who's watching if you've had any experience you know reading any of these international prints or you've seen them before or you've seen them online uh let us know in the comments below tell us uh your experience with these uh these international prints because we're very curious they are hard to find uh here in the states so for you collectors out there uh keep an eye out because they are they are worth having in your collection i would
[01:47:07] certainly say you know i still got to get me more of these uk books so i'll be working on that but uh that is going to do it for tonight's episode of the goosebumps crew podcast i want to thank once again our good buddy elvis nostalgia goosebumps for joining us and uh giving us his expertise here on the subject thanks again elvis well thank you for having me i appreciate it absolutely and as always we'll uh leave a link to elvis's uh social media in description below his
