[00:05:00] And they decide to take her to Muddy Creek

[00:05:06] And they're going to use that mud monster

[00:05:09] But unfortunately

[00:05:10] They end up finding out

[00:05:11] That the legend is real

[00:05:12] And that they are in very real danger

[00:22:37] partner hates spiders but i love i love tarantulas so i have a i have a beautiful tarantula i named

[00:22:54] um but yeah no so she's beautiful though like mine is very uh so how i got her is i had a friend who

[00:23:02] you know he is like a spider tame like he has heaps of tarantulas and he even said charlotte is probably

[00:23:07] the most like well-natured nice-natured um tarantula he's ever handled like there is not

[00:23:14] one bad bone in her entire body like you can pick her up and she'll just crawl on you and

[00:23:19] like you know sometimes they might put their legs up if they're like leave me alone

[00:23:24] like well they'll kick the hairs at you but she's just like she's so calm and um yeah i just let her

[00:23:53] and my daughter wants one so badly and she's been angling one for a long time and then she got to

[00:24:01] meet one that was quite aggressive and she was still really into it so even though that one was

[00:24:09] like she wasn't allowed to handle it um she's that's like number one after uh she wants a scorpion

[00:24:15] like i mean it's yeah um i've had to conquer a lot of fears okay because i don't want her to see the

[00:24:22] fear because i feel i feel like fear gets transferred but um yeah i i it's particularly

[00:24:29] with this bringing it back to this episode i remember uh there's an anticipation of feeling

[00:24:35] like scared uh to touch something and then getting there and realizing it was not that big of a deal

[00:24:42] it was fine well the contrast too between you know because the whole scene is that they're like

[00:24:49] well we're going to use this tarantula to scare her but it ends up being that she's not scared at

[00:24:54] all of the tarantula but they are and it's crawling on them and there's this whole scene because they're

[00:27:46] know like fear of relationships fear of uh you know connecting of bonding um not to get i don't

[00:27:56] mean to get super deep on here but it is there's actually and it's crazy how many fears i mean i feel

[00:28:01] like there's a fear for everything but i especially remember like when i was a kid and i was six staying

[00:28:08] home i can't i don't know what show it was but there was a there was a whole show about people's

[00:28:15] odd fears and there's like people who are afraid of the color yellow um people who are afraid of olives

[00:28:23] and on all this it was so strange it's like where where do these fears like there was a clip on

[00:28:30] i believe maury of all things or it was maury or yes that's what it was okay so there was a clip i saw

[00:28:39] on instagram and it was somebody who was so deathly afraid of pickles like so afraid that she's crying

[00:28:47] at the thought of pickles and then they bring pickles out and she's just like

[00:28:53] like she's running away like like screaming oh that was the olive lady that was the olive one was it

[00:29:00] the i'm i'm so i'm so sure it was pickles um the editors were so unkind too because she's crying

[00:29:16] splashing everywhere it's like it's so mean but uh but it's really funny it was mean but it was funny

[00:29:27] won't but but people have legitimate fears and it can eat people up inside so honestly the fact that

[00:29:33] anyone could be unafraid is not only like a rare commodity uh because everybody everybody's afraid of

[00:29:42] something like everybody's afraid of at least one thing even if it's if it's big if it's super small

[00:29:50] everyone has a fear um but it's a you overcome that fear that you learn more about yourself and you

[00:29:59] have a sense of freedom you know you're not you overcome it you shown that you are bigger than it

[00:30:07] um so that's uh that's us getting deep i know the fears that you've overcome i'm curious to know what

[00:30:23] i actually had a fear for a long time uh and maybe this is a little too personal but i actually had a

[00:30:29] fear for a long time about being honest about uh my asperger's now i have asperger's um and for a

[00:30:36] long time i was super ashamed i was super ashamed because i thought that it made me feel inferior

[00:30:44] um i was always i always felt myself as an outcast because i didn't really have many friends i didn't

[00:30:51] get really social in school growing up and i felt very alone at times but i was always afraid to like

[00:30:59] be open about like what is it about me that like is different and i was always told you know it's

[00:31:06] your asperger that's why you're like this that's why you are uh i was hyperactive for a long time

[00:31:11] that they say it's because you're aspergers um and i was always so nervous about telling anybody

[00:31:18] because i'm like i don't want people to think i'm like you know you know different than them i want

[00:31:25] to be like someone who is normal but after a while i was just like i really need to be honest about

[00:31:32] this like i it i i don't remember what brought it on but one day i like i went to my teacher i'm like

[00:31:39] like i need to like say something and they're like you should tell everyone so she called on me and it

[00:31:47] was this super big moment i remember my heart was racing as far as i like one of the biggest

[00:31:54] nervous points of my life they're like isaiah has something he needs to tell everyone and i stood up

[00:32:00] and i was super super nervous but i just said well i just want to say i have asperger's

[00:32:09] that's why i'm like this that's why it's harder for me to sort of uh really be open and uh sort of

[00:32:19] affects my behavior sometimes it was a super big moment it really it really was and but that day i

[00:32:27] overcame that fear and now i can say that with no shame i'm not ashamed of it anymore that's a

[00:32:33] really big thing i love it's so interesting how something could be i at least find when i'm scared

[00:32:47] it's to a stranger like one of my big things is like when i walk into like let's say a social gathering

[00:32:51] i don't know what to say i don't like i really struggle with that and i'm like and i often say

[00:32:59] the thing that you shouldn't say and then i beat the shit out of myself later for why did i say that

[00:33:05] and then and it's just this it's really frustrating so then i'm like well then why do you even go

[00:33:10] like why what's the point of even going so i find that when i go to these gatherings i just say it

[00:33:16] i'm like i have like serious anxiety right now like the the worst and then someone else will say oh

[00:33:22] yeah me too and then it's like when you realize that all the hands are going up and you're like oh

[00:33:27] it's not that big of a deal yeah i do too i'm gonna be that person i'm gonna say me too uh and

[00:33:33] that it's that's true for everybody anxiety uh it's so funny because there's a movie out right now

[00:33:39] about anxiety uh if you haven't audience if you haven't seen inside out 2 by the way go watch it

[00:33:45] oh i loved inside out 2 oh my god so good that is a movie that i i never thought that there

[00:33:52] would ever be a movie that talks about anxiety so so well in that movie it's crazy but more to the

[00:33:57] point anxiety is everywhere like you know we talk about fears but probably the better word for it is

[00:34:03] definitely anxiety everybody has anxiety in their normal lives uh when you go to a job interview

[00:34:08] you're anxious because you don't want to say something that you know comes out the wrong way

[00:34:14] or you don't want to like you know make yourself look bad uh or when you're hanging out with friends

[00:34:20] like you don't want to or even meeting new friends it's like you don't want to say something that's

[00:34:24] going to make you look like uncool or uh you know make yourself look like a like a square

[00:34:29] that that wasn't a square this is a square we're all in a square um yeah something like that um

[00:34:37] you know when you're uh when you're in the first stages of a relationship um you know like when you're

[00:34:44] dating for the first time you know you're anxious you don't want to mess something up

[00:34:47] anxiety is everywhere it really really is um and again we don't we don't mean to get all deep on you

[00:34:54] guys you know this is goosebumps after all but it really is true this is this is something that i

[00:35:00] don't know like we find out after we do like episode breakdowns there's actually

[00:35:06] intentional or not there seems to be a lot more depth to some of the stories than probably what was

[00:35:11] originally intended at the time um so we've had quite a few conversations with different guests

[00:35:18] where we've talked about their episode and they're like oh man i never thought about it like that and

[00:35:23] you know so we start figuring out things kind of like we're doing right now yeah i mean what you guys

[00:35:28] are witnessing at home is the uh the epiphany of what this what this whole episode really means

[00:35:34] uh but remember young isaiah with uh with the added bonus of you know ghoulish mud monsters that want

[00:35:41] to kill you so um but going back to to the original point of um of the episode so um

[00:35:53] when we get to the so yeah so the boys here's the thing about the two main characters is that

[00:36:00] as a kid you can you can understand where these two characters come from when you have somebody who

[00:36:05] again has sort of that holier than thou aspect to themselves and uh it's fine to be unafraid it's

[00:36:13] another thing to sort of boast about it it's like i'm not scared i'm not scared i'm not scared i'm not

[00:36:18] scared of anything you can try it i'm not scared and i've grown through it you know somebody who is

[00:36:23] actually modest you know can take that in stride and just you know not not be like i'm better than

[00:36:32] you because of it intentional or not the the thing is you you can never know if somebody like

[00:36:37] means to be like that or if it's all just kind of like a facade you know something like that um but

[00:36:46] where the two boys sort of you sympathize them with your kid but to be honest as an adult for me

[00:36:52] personally i look at these two and i'm like what are you guys doing is this really worth it

[00:36:58] is it really worth your time it seems like you guys are jealous of the getting all the attention

[00:37:05] and that's why they they're like you know that's how i always saw it when i was a kid like i used

[00:37:09] to think oh these two kids they're just they're jealous of it you guys hate me was were you like

[00:37:15] oh i hate her so much no i mean look made me laugh to be honest like i used to think your character

[00:37:23] was like so great so funny like and that you played it so well like you sold it so well like

[00:37:29] well here's i thought it was yeah i thought you were actually just like really funny honestly

[00:37:35] i was in the back of my head i'm like i kind of hope that sort of question doesn't come up

[00:37:41] to be incredibly honest as a kid you you sort of you sort of root with the underdog let's say that

[00:37:49] you sort of root with those underdog characters of people who kind of want to be like i want to

[00:37:53] prove something um and the way that the episode certainly the way that the episode and especially

[00:38:01] the book um that are laid out you're kind of supposed to go in with a sort of like vitriol against that

[00:38:08] character um the book especially the way rl stein writes these kind of characters in the book

[00:38:14] is like tenfold compared to the episodes i think the episode actually dials down the character um

[00:38:22] quite a bit but in terms of the episode i don't find myself hating her as much as just sort of being

[00:38:28] like is that i mean like you know i agree with you i agree with you that you know you grow

[00:38:36] through overcoming your fears but sort of makes somebody it can make somebody a little

[00:38:43] you know i'm better than you sort of aspect and again maybe it's unintentional but comes off that

[00:38:51] way so um but i'm more just find myself being like to these the main characters it's just like

[00:39:00] guys is really not worth it i think the first time you embarrass yourselves you kind of walk away

[00:39:05] from the whole thing and it's because of their uh their just want to make this to make her scared

[00:39:12] um that leads them to almost getting killed by a month monster

[00:39:19] so um no of course not all scenarios i guess between confidence and just show offishness

[00:39:29] yeah yeah um because she does exude like a lot of confidence in that episode more than

[00:39:36] a lot of other things but then you get those moments where like we talked about earlier where

[00:39:40] she kind of brown nosed on the teacher some you know just to get a few brownie points so

[00:39:46] yeah i mean it's it's it's a little bit of both well and by the what when you get to sort of like the

[00:39:52] you know the climax of the episode the third act um because everything before then is pretty grounded

[00:39:58] in reality there's not really much of like the supernatural as i said before it's a lot of

[00:40:02] very realistic scenarios but then you get too many creek now they go to her this is their their big

[00:40:11] attempt this is their last shot this is like this is going to get her for sure um and they go to her

[00:40:17] and they're like hey do you want to if you want to prove that you're not scared of anything like

[00:40:22] go to muddy creek and she's like well i'm not going to do that i'm not going to waste my time

[00:40:27] they're like well maybe you're too maybe you're too scared to do it and she's like no i'll do it

[00:40:33] it's sort of like that like i have to protect my confidence sort of thing so it's like

[00:40:38] yeah okay you're on um and they go there and they're like all right we're gonna scare her

[00:40:45] my least favorite part of the episode because i am very i hate getting my clothes dirty

[00:40:53] at all so seeing that slather eddie in this mud all over his clothes is probably the scariest part

[00:41:04] of the episode to me like dude that's gonna take weeks to get out of your is that your fear

[00:41:10] is that your fear is dirty clothes no no it was not dirty clothes you will never find out what it is

[00:41:18] oh i will is it just cleanliness um keeping things clean no it's um it's germaphobe that's it

[00:41:26] i'm not a germaphobe either

[00:41:31] you guys won't find out i feel like i'm courtney in the scenario you will not find out

[00:41:37] germaphobes man you are the two boys and i'm charlotte asked you what your fear was would

[00:41:42] you tell her no no i wouldn't i probably wouldn't say it i can tell you my fear right now i said a

[00:41:49] fear i overcame like 100 my fear is being in the middle of the ocean like in the middle of the ocean

[00:41:57] like just you know just bobbing up and down in the water not knowing when like i'm either gonna get

[00:42:04] eaten by a shark i'm gonna you know uh i don't know i'm eventually gonna starve to death or like

[00:42:11] you know what i mean that that's my fear the ocean like i it's just so vast and like it goes on forever

[00:42:18] and ever you know like what is it five percent of the ocean has been explored and like not knowing

[00:42:24] what's underneath like below me so that you know what gives me anxiety the movie open water

[00:42:31] gives me anxiety big time i can't watch that movie i i remember like i used to love shark movies as a

[00:42:37] kid and i remember that one was coming out and i really wanted to watch it and i remember my auntie

[00:42:45] specifically telling me i don't know if you'll like that one though it's not like your typical just

[00:42:50] monster shark movie like jaws like this is a bit different and i was like no sure i'll love it and

[00:42:55] then yeah i should listen to it because that really gave me bad anxiety that whole time watching that

[00:43:03] film and i remember like even just sitting in the theater and just being like i can't watch anymore

[00:43:08] like i need to stop you know like i the the fear of just being lost in the middle of the ocean so

[00:43:14] like even the story of the um i think the ship that went down during world war ii was at the um

[00:43:21] i can't even remember what it was called now but quinn tells the story in jaws actually funny enough

[00:43:25] the indianapolis that's what it was and they all ended up in the water and they were getting eaten

[00:43:31] by sharks and you know they were drinking the salt water and you know things like that i'm just like

[00:43:36] man like that kind of stuff that is my fear i can't you know i mean like that would be the ultimate way

[00:43:41] to uh or even more uh more terrifying is that submarine incident that happened uh last year

[00:43:48] you know oh my gosh trapped underwater in a pressurized container and you know that is that's a bad way

[00:43:57] to go right there not even the underwater aspect just being trapped in a you know sardine can

[00:44:04] terrifying my sister's afraid of water and smaller and smaller i think a lot of people are afraid of

[00:44:11] i've heard that that's like more common i i believe spongebob probably traumatized an entire

[00:44:18] generation it was spongebob's fault though that actually is not a butterfly that they showed i

[00:44:24] don't remember what it was i think they said it was like a horsefly or something like that there's a

[00:44:28] there's an episode of spongebob where uh spongebob and patrick are house sitting for sandy and one of

[00:44:34] her pets is a worm and the worm goes into or was it a caterpillar and caterpillar goes in a cocoon and

[00:44:41] then comes out as a butterfly and they're terrified of the butterfly and there's two parts in the episode

[00:44:47] where it like gets really close to their face and then it's a close-up of like a housefly and there's

[00:44:53] like this horrifying it is like a lot of shows like that even for kids they did tap into a lot of those

[00:45:03] like fear things you know like you know and even in shows like spongebob they did it the simpsons did

[00:45:09] it a lot um but yeah no um butterflies it's angles i know they're cannibalistic they they eat meat

[00:45:16] like you know so if a butterfly was like what the size of a human or even half the size like

[00:45:23] yeah we all know probably be on the menu those brain you know what i mean like so i think maybe

[00:45:27] that's what it is like the fact that they do eat you know other dead insects and stuff like

[00:45:33] they're cannibalistic that's what i've been told sir well they eat insects when you say meat eating

[00:45:38] i'm not imagining a butterfly going and like chomping a piece of a person off i'm not probably

[00:45:44] why am i missing part of my arm oh it was that butterfly

[00:45:49] um well going back to goosebumps i mean you talk about this isn't the only episode that deals with

[00:45:54] you know fear of course um it's the only episode that really talks about fear as a concept

[00:46:02] um but every goosebumps episode has that sort of you know overcoming of a of an obstacle or something

[00:46:10] like that um and there's a lot of fears like i i don't know why this episode's popping into my head

[00:46:17] but the house of no return from season three just the idea of being trapped in a haunted house like

[00:46:22] you got these kids who are like being get in that house we're gonna lock you inside and it's like

[00:46:28] you're you're just your spider flight things are going off you're just like give me out give me

[00:46:34] the i'm gonna hear right now um you know again that's it it's common in everybody when you're really

[00:46:43] faced with something scary you're gonna have those instincts of like of like i said fight or flight

[00:46:49] um but going back to the to the episode it's okay so he's slathering this kid in mud hate it

[00:46:59] um but he's like okay wait here she's gonna come by you're gonna jump out you're gonna scare her

[00:47:05] um then he goes he's like i'm gonna go find more mud and i'm like dude there's mud around you is

[00:47:12] like why do you got to go into the woods to find mud and you're gonna carry it back whatever um but

[00:47:18] he goes in and then he sees the mud monster and he turns around and this chase scene i'm telling you

[00:47:23] is horrifying um it's it's horrifying goosebumps always really does chases scary like i the werewolf

[00:47:32] a fever swamp had a good one and this one has a good one um and then they they he comes back to eddie

[00:47:40] and he's like there's a real monster and he's like no there's not it's not real monsters aren't

[00:47:44] real and then courtney shows up you know she's she's wearing her her raincoat it's all puffy and

[00:47:51] blue and then she's like well well well look what he what look what we have here

[00:47:58] that's literally they're both standing there they're just like

[00:48:01] they're just first look i just say i think you did way better acting than i did

[00:48:09] i don't consider myself an actor so well i don't know you should rethink that

[00:48:15] i appreciate that but yeah so she shows up and she's she's just chastising him right away

[00:48:21] like just like here we have i remember b4b is like here we have two adolescents who are

[00:48:28] so consumed with their it's those big words again it's that wordy dialogue

[00:48:33] and they're just like defeated they're just like oh my god

[00:48:40] um long enough to distract them from the fact that there's a big lumbering monster that's

[00:48:45] walking up behind uh courtney and getting into what i said before i was going to bring up how this

[00:48:52] differs from the book in the book um there's actually multiple monsters there's multiple

[00:48:58] monsters not one and they pull up and uh courtney actually is scared they actually succeed she

[00:49:07] screams and screams and screams uh and they all they all scream they're all terrified they all run out

[00:49:12] and then actually uh even though they scared courtney she actually it actually kind of helps her

[00:49:18] because now she's like i knew it monsters were real all along and i have the proof so it's kind of

[00:49:25] like a hollow victory in the book uh and they're like yeah i guess we got one over maybe we could do

[00:49:30] it again but uh but not now because they're too scared why do you think they changed it i'm not sure

[00:49:38] um there are many goosebumps episodes that changed drastically from the book maybe it was a budget thing

[00:49:44] maybe it was a time thing or maybe they just maybe they just didn't think that would work for an episode

[00:49:50] instead what happens in the episode is you know she turns around she sees that there's a monster

[00:49:56] and instead of getting scared she first turns around and says you are right and then she turns back

[00:50:02] around and he's like and she's like don't interrupt he's like i'm talking i was like we need to we need to

[00:50:09] address your aggressive nature and just this montage of her talking and talking and talking to this thing

[00:50:17] and this thing's just standing there taking it all in he's like so confused and then doesn't he dry up

[00:50:24] he dries up or something yeah he talks to him this is coming back he talks to him so long that the sun

[00:50:32] comes out and he's just and it's so funny because he's stuck in a position like this where he's like

[00:50:38] even he this monster this like this mindless ghoul just is standing there listening to all this

[00:50:46] and he like crosses his arms like he's just kind of like huh and then yeah and then the sun comes out

[00:50:54] and he dries up and she's still talking to him she's still talking and then she's like are you even

[00:51:00] listening to me and he's just stuck and it's really funny too because during the whole montage is like

[00:51:08] the boys are in the background and they're just like they're just there they're like they're sitting

[00:51:14] down at one point they're just kind of like and then they're like pacing back and forth it's so funny

[00:51:23] um and then the episode ends so they they lost there's their final attempt went kapook not only

[00:51:30] then they get scared instead of her but she completely embarrassed them and now there's

[00:51:36] now there's news crew and there's reporters and she's like now she's even more popular than ever

[00:51:44] because she's given all these uh she's gonna like go talk to the mayor she's gonna she's given all these

[00:51:50] interviews and then she's turned around being like you know i felt it was my duty to save these two

[00:51:58] helpless boys it's like i'll never forget the terrified look on their faces so it's like one last

[00:52:05] you know don't mess with me because i got you um just to stick it to them and then they all leave

[00:52:12] and then the rain starts coming down again so once they've all left the the hat and eddie they're

[00:52:17] just sitting there they're just defeated they're like what are we gonna do man i was like this is not

[00:52:22] fair it's just not fair um and then but it's raining so the the monster gets back up and the episode

[00:52:30] ends he puts his hand on their shoulder and then freeze frame scream freeze frame that's how it

[00:52:37] ends the episode that was the last shot literally last episode yeah he's like i gotta tell you man

[00:52:42] life's not fair and the monster puts his hand on his shoulder he's like oh thanks man they're like

[00:52:50] hey even even the the mud monster was like he's like it's all good yeah what do you do you feel like

[00:52:55] maybe he was just being a bro in that moment he's just like i feel you man and then they're like oh

[00:53:01] yeah i'll see what you've been dealing with guys oh damn it's just like he becomes the unofficial

[00:53:07] uh third member of their crew he did he was defeated too like you know what i mean so yeah you want to

[00:53:14] talk you want to talk about hidden messages that's there's your hidden message for it he was a champ

[00:53:20] so that's the character that won in that whole that you literally every time you won and even

[00:53:25] right at every turn like oh i'm gonna be going to meet the man now and i'm gonna be super famous

[00:53:32] well that's the thing it's like different from the book but only in a certain way because in both

[00:53:38] sense she kind of wins she she's always going to come up people like that are always going to kind of

[00:53:43] come up on top in the end uh but this is a situation that's very cynical it's just like you can't win

[00:53:50] you can't win there's no way um so it's like why do you even bother um now this episode we've obviously

[00:54:00] today have gone into a lot of very deep meetings with this episode um now that we've kind of gone

[00:54:07] through it all though um i gotta say it's it's not an episode that i would say is in my top 10

[00:54:13] but i really appreciate it for uh trying to be a little more your top 30 is it in the top

[00:54:22] it's it's i would say it's in my top 25 oh crap okay i'll take it it's in my top 10

[00:54:30] it's in my top 10 uh like short episodes because you got like you got like two-parters and then

[00:54:37] you've got like the the short like 20 minute episodes stand on stand in my top 10 of those

[00:54:42] 100 um because like one thing we've noticed with the goosebump series is that whenever they did like

[00:54:48] whenever they took a book and did a two-parter it's almost like there was if they felt like the budget

[00:54:56] was almost like bigger and or more like they they spent more time uh working on that specific

[00:55:03] episode when it was like a two-parter like oh this is a special one you know what i mean like isaiah

[00:55:08] says like this is a special episode we had to make it 40 minutes long not 20 you know like even though

[00:55:14] the books were all like relatively the same length so um but there are some short episodes like like

[00:55:21] this one i consider one of the better short episodes and then like revenge of the law

[00:55:25] gnomes a really good one i looked at two um yeah so they're they're all in my top 10

[00:55:31] of the short episodes as i said no pressure to say that yeah i just want to say hey i was gonna say

[00:55:39] no offense no i i have none none taken absolutely no um no uh i i want to ask you really quick so

[00:55:48] obviously as as we said you you had a really big scene with the mud monster just talking his his ears

[00:55:54] off um but i'm curious what was your reaction to the look of the mud monster in the episode

[00:56:01] like when was the first time you do you remember the first time you really got to get a look at it

[00:56:06] yeah i the one thing that i honestly just popped into my head as you were talking

[00:56:11] was i believe they doused this i believe it was a gentleman i believe it was a gentleman yeah

[00:56:18] um with mcdonald's milkshake so what there was like a sweet smell to him yeah i noticed that like

[00:56:30] especially when she's like talking to him you can see there's like a lot of stuff dripping from his

[00:56:35] face i had not thought about that until i was like that just that's still in there

[00:56:41] you said that's mcdonald's milkshake it was a mcdonald's milkshake yeah i don't it looks like it

[00:56:49] that's wild i can't it looks like it oh my god the whole time though i would have been like

[00:56:54] like so i don't know it's like a long day on i don't know if you would do you want to

[00:57:02] you want to get sick i'm not sure i yeah i just i see it the movie magic yeah sometimes when you find

[00:57:10] out those things it's so it sort of takes it away but well that's the thing too is like you gotta

[00:57:15] i think that's hilarious that is we had ron sponick on here who made the suit and everything and

[00:57:20] from my understanding if i remember i uh the guy in the suit was a wrestler who

[00:57:26] they've used before for other things because how tall and big he was

[00:57:29] wait for my episode he was a wrestler yeah yep from my understanding like the guy in the suit

[00:57:35] was a wrestler i can't remember his name though i'll have to look that up again um but

[00:57:42] he never mentioned ice cream though being a mcdonald's milkshake he just said the suit didn't

[00:57:50] last long after that episode like it just deteriorated like crazy because of all the stuff

[00:57:54] that they had to put on it uh was a gary robbins that it's a uh milkshake it's pretty hilarious

[00:58:00] was it gary robbins i think so if that's what it says that's what it that's what it says i would i

[00:58:08] would assure that oh then yep canadian actor professional wrestler gary robbins uh he did

[00:58:15] unfortunately pass away uh in 2013 um but he played uh the mud monster he was in movies like

[00:58:22] he was in wrong turn uh he was in short circuit two in the mouth of madness uh the love guru uh

[00:58:29] movies like that so yeah yeah he was in the love guru that's what it that's what it said right there

[00:58:35] oh wow um that's crazy but it certainly makes sense for like you know you when you have a monster like

[00:58:43] that you need to have somebody who's big and hulking so it looks intimidating um yeah but yeah i mean

[00:58:50] obviously they they we could tell that you know they splashed it with something to make it look gooey

[00:58:55] but i never ever would have guessed in a million years that it was a mcdonald's milkshake that is

[00:59:02] incredible on a budget on a budget yeah you do what you can do it's the same color it's the same color

[00:59:10] yeah oh wow um i always thought that the mud monster looked really cool it's one of my favorite

[00:59:17] uh like monster costumes uh in the 90s tv series i loved i don't know if it was uh it was gary robbins

[00:59:25] doing uh the noises that the monster made sort of the big booming like roars and stuff like that but

[00:59:32] uh especially when he's running it's like it's very like ape like almost and it's it is very it's

[00:59:40] almost like you'd wrap you probably have like a gorilla chasing after you that's the kind of

[00:59:44] noises it's making um but i always really liked it but i can't get over that was there any was

[00:59:52] there any other episodes of goosebumps that you auditioned for or or like maybe even got asked

[00:59:58] to like be a part of because i know a lot of the other some of the other stars even said like they

[01:00:02] they went for like multiple different episodes some were i would imagine i probably did because i was in

[01:00:09] that little circuit um but nothing is coming from mind in terms of like what i i mean i i wasn't

[01:00:17] following this these books very closely as a kid so i i i guess i i wouldn't even know what they were

[01:00:26] you know what i mean i kind of like auditioned blindly which was probably a bad idea but i should

[01:00:32] have been more professional and done a bit more research i will say um there are a few actors from

[01:00:40] this episode that did go on to do other goosebumps episodes um the actor of hat uh played chris in the

[01:00:48] house of no return which we talked about earlier okay and uh the teacher who gets scared by the snake

[01:00:54] is one of the men in black and don't go to sleep right even so even i didn't know that like i should

[01:01:03] know this but even i didn't know that um now uh well so you so you you said that you kind of auditioned

[01:01:12] blindly uh when you got this episode uh did you get a chance to like read the script beforehand what

[01:01:17] did you think that it was like an interesting uh episode from what you saw yeah i think any chance

[01:01:24] for me as a kid to get out of school would have been really really uh up there so i don't think it

[01:01:31] took much for me to be like i don't want to go to school um yeah i didn't like the school i went to

[01:01:37] so i but i like i would have obviously read the script hopefully um because as i said one of my

[01:01:46] biggest fears also getting way way worse as i get older is having to memorize like dialogue i find

[01:01:52] it just really my one of my biggest challenges so that would have been something i would have had to

[01:01:59] have had i i if i didn't have the script i don't know what i i don't know how i would have been able

[01:02:04] to to do that so um but in terms of my memory nothing is coming out of me right now in terms of

[01:02:10] even remembering when i got it i don't know anything

[01:02:17] totally fine so let me ask do you have uh do you have a memory that you do remember about

[01:02:24] the time spent on there that was like one of your favorites like was it

[01:02:28] the fact that they made a milkshake dump on this mud monster or did you get to see a relationship you

[01:02:36] had there did they let you dump the milkshake on the mud monster no i i i feel like i remember where

[01:02:45] we shot this like i remember the park we were in so i've been to that park later in my life and been

[01:02:52] like oh yeah what did we shoot that like so i've gone for dog walks in that park um you've seen any

[01:03:06] like i've got fears like i'd certainly uh that's one of mine i don't want to be walking alone in a

[01:03:13] park at night um but yeah i the the thing i do remember is like what i probably sold it to me was

[01:03:22] like getting to uh touch all those creatures that would have been like the the coolest part and also

[01:03:28] missing school which is terrible staying kids but stay in school kids okay that's fine

[01:03:36] like anytime i could ditch school and go to the skate park that was like the best day ever

[01:03:42] i mean i'm not terrible i'm not telling you kids out there that are watching this to do that but

[01:03:47] you know no no the idea that i would sit in school and be like when is this over like you're wishing

[01:03:53] your life away it's just terrible like you're it's supposed to be learning which is supposed to be

[01:04:16] it was a hell of a lot easier to figure out how you're gonna pay your bills this month

[01:04:23] oh yeah oh yeah definitely is that you're gonna keep anything from the do you remember if they gave

[01:04:30] you anything like if i did keep something i would i think it would have do you remember in clueless

[01:04:35] they had those like fuzzy pens and like that was like a big deal i don't know if it all resonates

[01:04:43] with you but um i think that i may have angled to keep a couple pens

[01:04:51] i don't know

[01:04:53] wow really that's better than what kai kept he he decided to keep the socks

[01:05:00] i remember right it was

[01:05:01] okay i often feel my fox and underwear so like that would be disgusting for somebody else to use

[01:05:08] yeah like i'm giving you a favor honestly i'd be concerned if they did hand me down other actors

[01:05:14] clothes no that's right so i'm like i'm not gonna give you like this just came fresh out of the

[01:05:20] the box i'm not um yeah i'm not giving you my underwear yeah

[01:05:25] and i wouldn't want somebody else's clothes on my body either no i think that goes

[01:05:35] another fear this is definitely a very rainy episode of goosebumps was that actual

[01:05:43] rain was it like actually raining the day you shot or was it like one of those no they had

[01:05:48] i remember that they had um the the rain machines for for that wow i mean like a full-on like how big

[01:05:58] are those things that they're like these long poles and they there's multiple of them and it just depends

[01:06:05] on how many you have up but i think for that particular sequence they needed a lot of a lot of rain so

[01:06:12] it and yeah that was that was totally pink no always curious it's like you never know but

[01:06:18] also when you're playing around with weather you're like really constrained by time so

[01:06:23] uh i'd honestly be more shocked if it really was raining that day

[01:06:29] um yeah so i got this is kind of still in its height at the time that this episode aired um and

[01:06:36] i've heard some other actors kind of say that like after they did goosebumps because goosebumps was so

[01:06:41] popular in the 90s um that they had a hard time going to the mall or to a skating rink or anything

[01:06:47] like that did you have a similar scenario to that no not even for two seconds no i i no no i don't

[01:06:58] think anybody has ever come up to me about about group books that does oh my gosh yeah no no i i

[01:07:05] absolutely not no um that's really interesting i don't know who that who said that who said that

[01:07:11] they're they had a hard time well i know there's katherine long is definitely one she's probably the most

[01:07:19] well-known of the of the kid actors was the first like didn't it kind of launch the whole uh television

[01:07:27] series and i remember i do remember when that one had come out and uh that one was a really big deal

[01:07:34] like that one wasn't really like that was the i think the best one right mm-hmm yeah okay i do

[01:07:43] many people's opinions yeah they a lot of them remember that one pretty fondly and it kind of

[01:07:48] goes back to why isaiah said earlier where it's a two-parter and because it was the first episode i

[01:07:53] feel they definitely put more effort into that one because i needed it to be a success

[01:07:58] um but it sticks in a lot of people's minds because it came out around halloween it's a halloween episode

[01:08:05] it was the first episode so it really kind of stuck with a lot of people um but besides katherine i mean

[01:08:10] uh i think eugene lipinski has said he's had people come up and say hey aren't you mr mortman

[01:08:15] he's like yes and um kai has said uh in our interview with him that over the years he's had

[01:08:28] he's ever done 30 years he's acted like that and most fan mail has been goosebumps for it and he's

[01:08:34] been in a lot of stuff so it really surprises me that you haven't had anybody because i mean honestly

[01:08:41] like you know you can't scare me is uh i think it's a good episode and while you know it's not

[01:08:50] like say haunted mass quality because again it was a 20 minute episode compared to a two-parter

[01:08:54] like we said for some reason they always gave those two-parters a little extra love

[01:08:59] um your character was still very memorable i mean she was uh

[01:09:05] like you know like you said you loved you loved her hated her but by the way i mean the role portrayed

[01:09:11] of her character um sticks out in that episode as much as the mud monster at the end does so sweet i

[01:09:18] just like i couldn't re-watch this because i'm so afraid of how bad my acting is like but i just have to

[01:09:24] keep being kind to myself because i'm like i was 11. i was 11. i didn't murder anybody i was 11. i was

[01:09:30] 11. like i keep sort of saying that out out loud just to make myself feel better it was very memorable

[01:09:36] but thank you you're very very sweet like next set it was it was your character specifically like there's

[01:09:42] i don't know if you if you're aware but there's actually been some fan art of your character from

[01:09:47] the episode like actual fan art and um generally that those that you know when there's a character

[01:09:55] that someone really remembers they will do a lot of different fan art and things like that so

[01:09:58] um yeah i've seen quite a few things over the years and um like i said i consider this one of

[01:10:05] the best of the two of the shorter episodes for sure like it's in the it's like one of the top 10 best

[01:10:11] of the short ones um you know like i this is a episode i've been fond of because i remember watching

[01:10:16] this one on tv when i was a kid because like obviously nick got to live goosebumps in 95 96 97

[01:10:23] 98 like even in 98 when it was declining uh for me i started in 99 so i was catching all the reruns

[01:10:31] of goosebumps and this was one of the first episodes that i'd seen uh because they were just sort of airing

[01:10:36] them all and i remember watching i remember it was two of the the first episode that aired was piano

[01:10:42] lessons can be murder and then it was you can't scare me those were like back to back that were airing

[01:10:47] on tv at the time and uh yeah i just i remember this one so well like the chase scene like as i said

[01:10:52] that one really stuck in my mind and it still does um goosebumps did that very well the chase scenes yes

[01:11:01] well i've been going back to what you said about art i don't know if this is art specifically of the

[01:11:05] episode but this is always a piece that i've seen around on uh google whenever i looked up goosebumps

[01:11:11] as a whole even but uh we got this piece of art right here you know that's you that's crazy yeah

[01:11:20] that's that's the episode yeah 100 percent oh yeah the outfit the binoculars yeah so no i love that

[01:11:31] that's what i mean yeah it's like i could be wrong but we have like an official artist for our uh youtube channel adam uh ledford and i think he's done something too i'll have to see usually he waits until the episode comes out so he can promote it he'll do artwork for the person who came out there like um

[01:11:51] oh i know i've got something here actually just to give you an example

[01:11:56] and i actually stopped to mail this off but he normally likes to do artwork of uh certain individuals

[01:12:02] and like uh i don't know if you ever got to meet ron uh stephanick who was the lead special effects

[01:12:10] uh creator for the goosebumps show him and his team stuff he would have designed the monster

[01:12:16] character oh like he does little art pieces and stuff like that oh that's awesome

[01:12:24] and he's done i think he's done like i said one for everybody who we've uh had on the show on our uh

[01:12:32] episode so far so i wouldn't be surprised if he's already got one started uh for you can't scare me

[01:12:39] so i'll be sure to send that over that would be awesome he has that because he's a very good artist

[01:12:46] and yeah there is there's actually quite a bit of fan art uh you can't scare me has gotten a lot of uh

[01:12:52] recognition over time a lot of the 90s merch had the mud monster on it um even lately uh trick-or-treat

[01:12:59] studios is doing a mud monster figure and a mask so uh it's it's getting a lot more love here

[01:13:08] uh lately because of the resurgence of kind of like nostalgia because goosebumps

[01:13:13] books have already hit 30 years but next year is the 30th anniversary of the tv show

[01:13:20] yeah i don't know if i didn't feel old enough

[01:13:28] i don't know that's so bizarre yeah that's so so so insane to me i guess one final question uh

[01:13:38] so i know that you uh you've said you probably never will never re-watch the episode

[01:13:44] um i just was like i don't think this is a good idea i said i'd rather go into it

[01:13:49] not no like just using this old just using yeah so would you let your daughter watch it though

[01:13:56] like that's kind of an interesting thing i found out with some of the people we talked to uh

[01:14:01] they they kind of let their kids watch it but i don't know if they actually watch it with

[01:14:05] them at the same time so i have tried to show her some stuff and she is like really creeped out by it

[01:14:14] like in a really weird way she has this very strange adverse reaction to me like she just thinks it's

[01:14:22] weird and like seeing something like seeing her i guess her mom like shrunken into like a little

[01:14:28] itty bitty kid like she finds it super bizarre um and i'm like would you have been friends with her

[01:14:35] like i ask her that but um i yeah she's could be like less interested and more that's her fear i guess

[01:14:45] she finds it super creepy i'm like no i can't i can't she doesn't think it's cool she thinks it's

[01:14:54] weird even when i was pregnant with her i did a tv show and you could really and really see that i'm

[01:14:59] pregnant it wasn't even in the like scripted and she just thought it was like so strange i'm like don't

[01:15:06] like don't ever show me that again so i was like come on i was like i was cool

[01:15:18] well and that's funny you say that because i i definitely feel that like my daughter's 14 she'll

[01:15:23] be 15 soon so i definitely feel that and i'm not even like an actor or anything but it's like

[01:15:29] we had amos crawley on same thing um he was in like billy madison so outside of goosebumps he's

[01:15:35] done a lot of really good stuff and he was in a very popular episode of are you afraid of the dark as

[01:15:39] well so he's done some really some good stuff and i'll same thing or he's like my kids are not impressed

[01:15:46] uh they don't care no it's beyond impressed it's like she's genuinely creeped out by seeing me

[01:15:57] that is the first time i gotta probably talk to a therapist

[01:16:01] i'm trying to see that yeah but i was gonna ask you kids don't want to like they can't imagine

[01:16:07] you being young for some reason like no like i see photos of my parents i go oh wow like you know when

[01:16:13] i see them when they're really young but like were you really that young though like you know what i

[01:16:18] can't ever imagine seeing you like as a kid you know what i mean like you were born into the world

[01:16:24] as an adult that's how we look at our parents like you were born as an adult you were never a kid

[01:16:29] yeah yeah um that's what that's kind of the you know what you sort of came out with the 401k

[01:16:37] yeah i mean i was one of my favorite bands of all time is the rolling stones and it's funny because my

[01:16:43] mom was pregnant with me when they went to see the rolling stones like in 1990 it would yeah it would

[01:16:48] have been in 95 because i think that was early in 95 and then sure enough that became one of my

[01:16:53] favorite bands and they're like funny story i'm like what they're like yeah you were like eight

[01:16:58] months like we saw the rolling stones and i was so you were probably in there just you know doing the

[01:17:04] the rooster that's not a bad first concert i think that's a really really cool first concert

[01:17:09] no uh what i was actually going to ask was was something similar it was uh what did you get a

[01:17:17] chance to see the episode when it premiered uh and just see yourself on tv and be like wow like

[01:17:23] there i am in an episode like did you have that opportunity i would have imagined i did but uh

[01:17:30] i had a weird i also had a weird reaction to it's healthy for me to see things i just realized like

[01:17:40] it actually you shouldn't look at yourself as much as actors have to look at themselves

[01:17:45] it's really unhealthy so um oftentimes when you're doing a job you have to go to a recording studio

[01:17:51] and fix dialogue and things where there's noise that is kind of interrupted the show like let's say

[01:17:57] an airplane has kind of come over the the audio uh you have to re-record yourself in scenes often and

[01:18:05] so that's usually where i see a lot of my work and it's like it's usually a big old disappointment so

[01:18:11] um it's not healthy for my mental health but i would imagine i did probably see it yeah no for a while i i

[01:18:20] had the same thing it's like whenever i would record something i'm gonna be like well i'm never gonna

[01:18:24] see that again because i don't want to yeah oh um and uh i feel the exact same way

[01:18:34] i'm still kind of am now so
